Shari, Try this link http://www.raogk.org to find someone who will look up the info for you. Their only request is you pass on the kindness. I've been with them for several years and have had people from all over the world look up family info for me. And I do the same for people seeking info in my area. Hope this helps. Vicki
Casey Co Library has a lot of stuff. Photocopies of many documents. I have never been to Lincoln Co Library. I know nothing about the other libraries you mentioned. If you could e mail Casey Library or call, I'd do that. They are closed on Thurs. Good Luck.Judy
Hi Judy, Thanks for the info on the Casey Co. KY Genealogy Society. I am sorry to hear that it disbanded. Do you know if the library has documents, etc? I have visited some libraries here in SC and have just found family books and some newspapers. Since Casey was a part of Lincoln, I guess I need to write to the Lincoln Co. Genealogical Society to see what they might have. Is the Harrodsburg-Mercer Research Historical Library a part of the Mercer Co. Genealogy Society? We keep making plans to get to KY, but something always comes up to keep us from going. We need to plan these trips so we can be at a place other than on weekends. Shari
Casey Co Genealogy Society disbanded some years ago. I was at a couple meetings. (I live in Michigan) Less than six people attended the monthly meetings. Local support just not there. The newsletter was great while it lasted. I contacted a query and got back 3 generations. How lucky was that? Thanks to Gladis Thomas for all her hard work for Casey Co . Judy
Does anyone know how long it takes to get land records from KY Land Office? I ordered some records for the Whites in Casey-Lincoln Co. KY about 1 1/2 months ago. I used the form that is at the KY Land Office website. It said not to send money at that time. They would send a voucher with documents. George Washington White was b. May of 1817. On Sept. 6, 1824, he was indentured to Elijah Webster. Supposedly, Elijah Webster d. in Mercer Co. KY in 1826. Would George Washington White have been indentured to someone else upon the death of Elijah? Would he have stayed within Elijah Webster's family lines---and worked. George Washington White was about 9 years old when Elijah Webster died. Would he have been sent to live with Dungan family in Pulaski or Mercer Co. KY? These are rather odd questions to ask. I guess all of this is possiblity. I thought someone might be a real history buff on this list--and familiar with how these indentures worked. George's indenture was until he was 21. The next appearance of George Washington White is in 1846 in Owen Co. IN when he married Lucy Ann Baker. George's next appearance is in Robinson, Crawford Co. IL, when he married Sarah Meloni Turner. Harrodsburg-Mercer Research Library only had the one indenture--and that was for my George Washington White. How lucky was I on that one!!!! Would Casey Co. Genealogical Society have indentures for the 6 siblings of George Washington White (Andrew, Nathan, William, John, Eson, and Ely). James White was excluded for being bound out in his father's will. Eson/Eason/Esam may have went to live with the Coulters. He m. Cyrena Coulter---and lived and died in Casey and Lincoln Co. KY. Eson shows as spelling in George White will of Jan. 19, 1824. George d. 17 Feb 1824. Sorry, I know I have repeated myself on this many times. It just boggles my mind that there were 15 children---and I am the only one looking for them. I have discovered that many of the families moved between censuses. The Rouseys moved to Putnam and Jennings Co. IN and were back in KY by 1880 census. Same goes for my Reynolds line out of Hart and Taylor Co. KY. Now, about the Coleman comments. I guess some people are in this for the history lessons and fun. I have many, many documents that I have sent to people. They still insert something else or get the dates wrong at family trees at rootsweb. Many people, who wrote books, are no longer with us. With all the new technology that is available now, this generation of researchers are finding new info on their families all the time. I recently contacted a very well known White family authority. I told him that I would be happy to send him a document showing that Reuben White could not have married Nancy Hines. Reuben d. in 1818 in Dallas Co. ALA. There is no way he had children born in 1820 forward. This gentleman, basically, told me that I was really interferring with a lot of people's research. He elected to leave his family tree as is. That is ok with me, but it would be nice if he would put some kind of explanation with it. Some people just do not want to believe that great-great grandfather may have had more than one family. So, I guess it is up to us to do the research. I have decided to stop sending people documents. I do keep in touch with 3 or 4 others---and we exchange documents. I appreciate those who have sent me info and copies of things. I admit to doing a lot of post-ems at rootsweb, some longer than they should be. I get some very nasty e-mails at my home. I will refrain from doing post-ems in the future. Some people just can't afford to spend money to find documents. At times, I can't. Some people will let others do all the work. I am so appreciative of those on this list. So many do their homework. I just don't know what to do about those that put family trees at rootsweb---then when challenged a little bit---they get so upset about it. So far, I have not seen that here. Thanks to the gentleman who put the Coleman info on. I don't know if they fit in with my White line, but it is great to have the information. I keep telling myself that I am giving up on proving the parents of Good Old George White (m. Eunice Dungan---and likely Jane E. Lewis). There is something that drives me to keep going on with George. Thanks, Shari
Mr. Coleman, I noticed you haven't received any comments from anyone in reference to your note below! I didn't expect that you would. Most family researchers get their information from web-sites, & have never been to the cemeteries, towns, counties, or states. Even after sorting out the Daniel Coleman of Samuel Coleman & wife Mildred Coffey of Casey Co., Ky. and the Daniel Coleman of Stephen Coleman & wife Mary A. Foree of Trimble-Henry Co. Ky., all I received was, don't throw rocks in a glass house. I had even sent an hour video of the home sites of the Casey Co., Ky. Coleman's & the Trimble-Henry Co., Ky. Coleman's, I didn't get any comment back from these folks, & they still insist on their web-site, that the Daniel Coleman of Casey Co., Ky. & the Daniel Coleman of Trimble-Henry Co., Ky. were the same. I find it amusing that this Daniel Coleman could have had two wives, one from Casey Co., Ky., they lived seven miles from where got married, Liberty, the other wife from Shelby Co., Ky., and they lived six miles from where they got married. Here's what I posted about three-four years ago. I lived in Loveland, Ohio at that time, I now live five miles from where Samuel & Daniel Coleman lived on the East fork of Knob Lick Creek, Casey Co., Ky. James "Sonny" Coleman PO. Box 114 Yosemite, Ky. 42566 phone #606-787-1719 This is what I posted about 3 years ago. Some of you folks have made a mistake on the Casey Co., Ky. Daniel Coleman & the Henry Co., Ky. Daniel Coleman. You MIGHT want to change your Coleman file and correct your books that have been published. Daniel Coleman of Casey Co., Ky. Father: Samuel Coleman. I haven't proven it yet, but Sam was married 3 times. Mother: Millie Coffey born: 1794 in Va. or possibly in Lincoln Co., Ky., now Casey Co. death: abt. April 1, 1853 in Casey Co., Ky. married: Polly Durham Dec. 24, 1822 in Casey Co. Polly born: 1800 Polly's death: Shortly after the August 1850 census was taken. Daniel & Polly had 8 children Daniel & Polly were first cousins Both are buried on Knob Lick Creek Casey Co., Ky. A barn has been built over their grave along with 14 other people's graves. The Gab Wall, that settled the Daniel Coleman estate is buried there , he still has a stone, which is a miracle. If I'm not mistaken, I don't think I'm wrong, Daniel's cabin is still standing there on the creek. This cabin may have been his fathers before he and most of his family moved to Todd Co., Ky. Daniel Coleman of Henry Co., Ky. Father: Stephen Coleman Mother: Mary Ann Foree born: July 26, 1794 Prince Edward Co., Va. death: June 10, 1853 Married: Mary Jeffries 1818 in Shelby Co., Ky. 6 miles from his farm. Mary Jeffries born Dec. 24, 1796 Shelby Co., Ky. death:June 14, 1850 Henry Co., Ky. Daniel & Mary had no children, but Daniel's second wife gave him a son James Daniel, James was born 1851 in Henry Co., Ky. Both are buried next to their home, 2 miles off any road, at route 421 & Beasley Lane. Their house was lived in till 1940 when it burned. The foundation is still in tact & the well has water in it also. I got pictures of the stones and area, it is beautiful place for a home. Daniel & Mary loved 16 miles from Stephen & Mary Coleman, Daniel's parents. Stephen & Mary's house is still lived in as of this date. My brothers & 2 cousins rebuilt the Stephen Coleman cemetery last summer. Daniel lived 10 miles from his cousin, William Lawson Coleman. The William Lawson Coleman house & cemetery is one of the most beautiful places one could visit. The spindle that William L. was hung on during the Civil War by Union troops, was finally replaced last summer. My brothers, "Dickie" Coleman, Harvey Dennis Coleman, and I have spent two and a half years, 50,000 miles plus, over 2000 dollars, and a lot of time, on the research on the two Daniel Coleman's and that is our findings. You folks can do what ever with your Coleman History File, that is our conclusion. The land of Samuel & Daniel, there's 300 acres still being farmed on today in the Casey Co., by their gggg-grand-daughter. James "Sonny" Coleman 9209 Link Rd. Greetings all! I have been trying to do research from my home in California about ancestors from Casey County to little success. I was wondering if anyone on the list is, or knows of a genealogist from Casey County that would help me link my ancestors? As you probably remember, I think one of the James & Elizabeth Andeson's children was Martha Ann Anderson/Black by the proximity to Silas Black and his father Lindsey Black's families in the 1870 census. Of course it is only conjecture. Buck Beach
