    1. Re: [KYCASEY] also RAINWATER Family in Casey County, KY
    2. Hello, Hal: Yes, of course I remember. I enjoyed the side trip for you to Mintonville. I even found some of my own research in that cemetery. I was on my way from Casey Co. to Fentress & Scott Counties in TN. Also: I still have pictures of the Norwood Library (in Cincinnati) for you that I sent and they were returned as 'undeliverable' or something to that effect. Let me know when you return to sunny CA: (now quite soggy and snow on the mountain). As for the RAINWATER name...I have researched that name in the Eastern TN area and then in to Oklahoma. I have never been able to make the connection to the Casey Co. families. Enjoy Arizona. Miss Dixie @ Sloughhouse, CA

    2. Larry Witt
    3. Hello, I have had to change email address' again so I now have a more permanent one. >From Casey County I descend from Chilton/ Shelton, Allen, Henson, Mills, Pemberton, McDonald, Taylor, Hansford, Turpen, Thompson, Morgan, McWhorter, McClure, Durham, Douglas, Elliott, Bastin, Reed, Minton, Sphar, Kent, Austin, Lloyd, Fletcher, Snow, Bell, Christerson, Fair, Joslin, Hite, Coleman, Perkins, Williams, Green, Evans, Gabbert, Mayo, Branson, and the Luttrells from Va. My Witt line: John Witt arrived in Charles City Co. Va abt 1670 from London, Son William died in Nelson Co, Va, ABt 1783, Son Abner WItt moved to Knoxville 1786 while brother Elisha Witt moved to Estill Co., Ky, Abner's son Charles Witt lived in Hamilton Co, Tn but son Samuel H. Witt moved to Fentriss Co., Tn and about 1862 moved to Casey Co where he and son James Witt joined Union Army about 1863. Samuel WItt & all other Witts in family moved on to Spurlington, Taylor Co., Ky by 1865. James stayed in Casey & married Sarah Bell daughter of Joseph Abner Bell. My mother was Irene Thompson who married Wallace Witt. They both attended Walnut Hill school & church. Bill Thompson of Middleburg, Christine Sharp, and Inas Clemments of Liberty are siblings of my mother. My dads parents are buried @ Green River Valley Baptist church while my mother's parents are buried @ Middleburg. When I was a boy I watched The Man Who Shot Liberty Vallance @ the Kentuckian Theater in Liberty, It still remains as one of my favorite movies. Sam Wilkerson was an old man who seemed to be present @ every movie. People would shout at him about him owing them money and say "Hey Sam, Where's that nickel you owe me?" Sam who was not fully adult intellegent would roar out during the the movies and charge up the aisles searching for his accusors. I drove him home one time after I began driving and he seemed appreciative but expected me to come back later for more free taxi service. 2. Dixie, I feel the same way with about being related to most of Casey County. My mom's dad is from Gilpin - the town was actually named after my 3rd great grand uncle, William Gilpin. So we're also related to all the Gilpin ancestors. My mom's mother's family left VA and NC to settle in western Casey Co. I found out that my dad's mother's family is also from the western side. I'll bet you and I have some cousins in common! How far back do your yearbooks go? Grandpa had 5 sisters, Ora, Jennie, Miriam, Hazel, and Frances. He had one brother, William (Bill). On one of my visits back to Ohio, I want to go visit St. Bernard area and also go to the cemeteries there. That is where most of my Kemp ancestors are buried. I live in Colorado so I don't make it back very often - not as much as I'd like to!! Thanks. Sheree

    2. Sheree: I will get my yearbooks out and check this. The name sounds very familiar. I did leave there in 1952, but I have made many trips back to 'home.' My KY and Cincinnati friends and family always get everyone together whenever I make the trip. Mostly, it is like I have never been away. I spent two hours on the phone this AM, discussing my Casey Co.connections with one of my KY cousins that now lives in Indiana. There were 11 children in my DERRINGER family and 11 in my SCOTT family. From all of those aunts and uncles, I am probably related to half of the county. I will let you know about the KEMP name. 2. Hello, again: Yes, I do still have relatives and many friends in Cincinnati. I was there in June for a very sad funeral (in Indiana) and I will be back in April. As to the WHITAKER family name...I do have a very early connection from VA - 1825 ~ 1855, in my file. I do not remember anyone in Ohio. I grew up in St. Bernard. Vine Street was the main line from south to north. It seems like most people from Casey Co. came to the Elmwood / Carthage area starting in the early 1930s. That may have had something to do with the Ohio River flooding in about 1937, when more people left the farming areas of KY. Downtown Cincinnati was under water and the upper areas were not as close to the river. Right now, that area has become a devastated area for some reason. I really was saddened to see the deterioration of both towns. The industry and the churches have changed tremendously. Thanks for checking in again. Dixie (SCOTT)

It was a wonderful article to read. Sometimes we forget how much has been sacrificed for each of us. One of my uncles served in the military. His mom, my grandma, was from Casey County, as were her parents and on back. Thanks again!
