    2. Sonny, What year did all this take place? Recent times or longer ago? Glad you were ready to defend yourself and others and that it all turned out OK. One of uncles from way back, Theodore Kempf, used to live in Winton Place. In 1870 he was 16 and apprenticed to a harness maker. By 1900, he had his own Harness Shop. I see you are from Yosemite. I think my mom has an aunt living in that area. Her name is Joyce Ann Rigney. Do you by chance know her? Sheree Kemp Angus Greeley, CO

    1. Re: [KYCASEY] KYCASEY Digest, Vol 1, Issue 43 living Kemp children of Martha ...
    2. These people are all my relatives. Martha Peyton Kemp was my gg-grandmother,thru her daughter, Mary Clementine Kemp ,who married William Jasper Cochran. In a message dated 11/14/2006 2:14:07 P.M. Eastern Standard Time, Yollacker@aol.com writes: Martha (Peyton) Kemp had died prior to 30 October 1871 the date of the writing of the will of her father, Valentine Peyton (1809-1875) the will is recorded in Casey Co., KY. Will Book 3, pages 372-374. Martha (Peyton) Kemp's sister, Leanah Peyton, estate Hancock County, Illinois, Record Book, P., p 109 (papers in Box 313) lists the living Kemp children of Martha Peyton. Leanah Peyton (1834-1905) died 16 Feb. 1905 at Alberum Wheat Peyton and Mary (Peyton) Peyton, Section 34 Wilcox Twp., near Warsaw, Hancock Co., Illinois. Leannah is buried in the John Peyton Cemetery, The stone reads: Leannah Peyton daughter of Valentine Peyton of Casey County, KY born 15 March 1837 died 16 Feb 1905. Heirs listed on 28 February 1905 when letters of administration were given to Alberum Wheat Peyton were: " Vincent Peyton of Ellisburg, Kentucky her brother, and children of her deceased sister Bet Cochran Leanah Shearrin, and Mary Cochran that the said Bet Cochran lives in Louisville, Kentucky; and that the said Leanah Shearrin and Mary Cochran live in Casey County, Kentucky." That your petitioner, with whom the said decedent made her home, and a distant relative of hers. (Note: A. W. Peyton (1855-1931), was the husband of Leanah's niece, Mary Peyton (1870-1952). Mary was the daughter of 1st Lt. Vincent Peyton and his first wife, Sarah Jane Gibson (1842-1870) born and buried, nr Jeffersonville, Montgomery Co., KY in the Gibson Cemetery) (Note: Still haven't figured how A. W., and Leanah are related. In a statement earlier he said that his father, John Peyton and Leanah had the same great grandfather. It has to go back a lot farther than that) Leanah's great-grandfather was Valentine of Lincoln Co. (1749-1831) and John's great grandfather is not known at present his grandparents were: James Peyton (1761/2-1817) died Casey Co, and Elizabeth (Cox) Peyton (1765-1828) See Casey Co., Ky. Wills and Estates. The revised list of the heirs on the estate of Leanah Peyton, deceased gives: Vincent Peyton, her brother, Ellisburg, Kentucky Bettie Cochran, daughter of her deceased sister, Louisville, Kentucky 1620 Wm. St. Mary C. Cochran, another daughter of the deceased sister, Liberty, Kentucky Monnie Shearrin, Arron Shearrin George Shearrin, and Mary Shearrin, all of Powers, Kentucky, and being the only children and descendans of a deceased daughter of the same deceased sister; and Bertha Kemp and Nona Kemp of Clinton, Illinois, the only children and descendants of a deceased son of the same deceased daughter; and that the said Shearrin and Kemp children are all minors, the said Shearrin children living with their father Jack Shearrin, and the said Kemp children living with their mother, Fannie Kemp. and this affiant further states on information and belief that there are no heirs of the said Leanah Peyton, deceased, except as above stated. Final report filed April Term, 1906 Hancock Co., Il. Final distribution May Term, 1906 Hancock Co., Il. dated 31 May 1906 Note: the deceased sister of Leanah Peyton refers to Martha (Peyton) Kemp and the deceased brother refers to John Bailey Kemp. 1880 census shows: Mary C Kemp aged 16 Martha Kemp aged 14 (not named in the estate of Aunt Leanah 1905) John Bailey Kemp aged 13 (referred to as the deceased son of deceased sister) Leannah Kemp aged 11 (either died after 16 Feb 1905 or before 27 Mar 1906) Elizabeth "Bettie" Kemp born 1871 Many of the Peytons of Casey County are to be found in the 2004 edition of the book The Peytons of Virginia, II, Vols. 3. Yes, MissDixieB, I'd love to have any pictures you might part with. I was in the Winton Tavern, training two students to work on the pinball called a sixcard, a blue Ford car pulled up in front, took a double barreled 12 gage shot gun and fired through windows. Most everyone ran for the back, two women went to the front to see what ever, and they fired again, I had to scream for them to get on the floor before they got hit. Most everyone got behind the bar, I stayed behind the pinball, waiting to see if they were coming through the door, they didn't come in!! I had a 44 mag. in my hand at that point. That's some of the memory trips I take when some mentions a name or place in Cincinnati, I worked for 30 pluse years on jukeboxes and such. James "Sonny" Coleman PO. 1. Re: [KYCASEY] (GADBERRY) also RAINWATER Family in Casey County, KY
    2. Harold: Sorry for the confusion. What I have is that John BALDOCK, Sr., married Agrapiney (b 1803) (CHRISTISON), July 24, 1825 in Casey Co KY: (see 'Piney' CHRISTISON). Their daughter, (b 1848) Agra Piney (BALDOCK) married George W GADBERY, April 26, 1866, in Casey Co. On the 1850 Census of Casey Co., both Mother (@ 48y) & Daughter (@ 2y) are listed as Agra P BALDOCK. On the 1860 CAsey Co. Census, both are listed as Josephine BALDOCK @ 56y and Josephine BALDOCK @ 12y: in the household of John BALDOCK. husband / father. I hope this helps to clear this up. 2. Yeah, it sure was Marvin....and before anyone starts with this subject again, last year or year before we all discussed Marvin being Indian by birth.....enough questions that someone on this mailist who is a true Cousin of Marvin wrote him about the "indian" story....His reply was posted here wherein he said that the"indian" thing complete with rawhide pants and shirt was a publicity hype....he listed parents etc.....He still sells his music on the internet for those interested... Sorry but every year we have someone post a message with "proof" of the Rainwater family being Indian....The "proof" usually has something to do with a Rainwater male marrying some Chiefs daughter.....may have happened somewhere but is usually just another famiily story without facts.. 2. Bless you, Sheree: Now I know where my contact with your KEMP family was. Yes, I do have the St. Bernard book, and now I know the connection in my head was the name of Kemp and Kemper Ave. I mentally 'filed' them together. I seem to retain names in my memory and then loose what they belong to. This has still been fun. Good luck with your research. If there is anything I can help with in Casey Co., let me know. I just this past Monday moved my 90 year old Dad into my home. He was born on Tennessee Ridge in 1916: the youngest of 11, to James T. & Lena Laura (JACKMAN) SCOTT. He is the only one still living. I have to prompt him into telling me stories by putting on my MX radio in the car and tuning into the Bluegrass Junction. He did play a banjo and enjoys the station. That is when I get most of my KY information from him. He thinks he is back on the farm. The things we do in the name of genealogy. Later: Dixie (SCOTT)

    2. I compiled a CD of all my mother's lines from Casey County and gave a copy fo the CC library about 5 years back. If it hasn't been lost or destroyed, there is a great deal of info on the Gilpins, Thomases, and many others with good documentation. It was made with Family Tree Maker which has a fairly decent search capability. Annette

    2. Hi Dixie, My grandpa, Henry Kemp, was born in 1907 in St. Bernard. Their last name at that time was spelled KEMPF. His grandfather, Frances KEMPF (later Frank Kemp) was a German from Alsace-Lorraine region in Germany. At some point they dropped the letter F, but other uncles kept the original spelling. Grandpa's oldest sister was born in 1895 and his youngest brother was born in 1910. Have you seen (or have) a book about the history of St. Bernard? I have one - it is pretty interesting. Grandpa's niece, Marie Kemp, submitted a short article about her grandfather and also submitted a picture of the old homestead. Thanks for checking with your friends. I love a challenge also. I like finding the puzzle pieces and putting them together!! Sheree

I was wondering if my memory is coming from a street called "Kemper Ave." That was what popped into my mind as I read your note. I have written to my friends in the Cincinnati area to see if they have any memories of this name. I will let you know about their answers. Do you have any time / dates to go by? I love a good challenge. Good Luck: Dixie (SCOTT)
