I know just how you feel with your "Davy Crocket" in your family tree story! :) My mother's maiden name is Morrison, and the story was always that (the actor) John Wayne (Marion Michael Morrison) was my mothers 2nd or 3rd cousin. If he is there, I sure haven't found him yet, but my family sure doesn't want to hear about that! haha Good luck Lenora
I have recently been blessed with a copy of Marriage Records of Casey County Kentucky By: Mrs. Eldred W. Melton and have a Booklet of the Gum Lick/Belton Cemetery Casey Creek. Will be happy to do look ups. Dorothy Lowery Vaughn lowery@comsys.net

The two books you have are both written by Gladys C Thomas, and she is also the author of the history book that is now out of print. This book not only gives a history of the county and its communities, but also lists all the cemeteries in the county; it has proved to be the most useful book for this county. I will add your name to the list. ---------- > From: William D. An open query... Does anyone know of the genealogy of the James ALLEN who was the Casey County state representative in 1819 and the Casey County sheriff in 1829 to 1830? We believe this James may be a half brother of our Benjamin ALLEN who lived in Casey County in the early 1800s. If so we can provide possibly additional information about these ALLENs, their siblings, and their progeny. Yours truly, Bill and Loydean Allen ballensr@pacbell.net end

Dear Ed, I may be wrong, since I haven't had time to thoroughly look through my Civil War books, But I believe the 8th Kentucky was part of the First Kentucky Brigade, also known as "The Orphan Brigade" since they were Confederates living in a state that was technically Union. There are many books available on the Orphans. If you want to contact me at RindyDayWalker@juno.com, I'll try to see if I can find the names of some of the books. Hope this is helpful to you.
