Hello and Happy New Year to All, I have had my computer disconnected for a while. I'm sorry if I have been slow in replying to anyone's email. I will work on that in Jan. A few people have asked for individual gedcoms instead of the big one. I will send out these gedcom to those who have asked for them in about 2 weeks. I have even added 4 more since the big file went out. The late Dr. Lewis Wesley's wife Elaine has to be one of the kindest souls in this world. I just recently met her and she was a very sweet lady. She allowed me to copy her late husband's family tree program which contains almost 7000 Casey people of which abt. 4000 are Wesley's. She wants me to make it available to any interested person and to place a copy in the Casey Co Library. As soon as I can make a gedcom of the info I will pass it on to anyone who wants a copy. I was happpy to discover it contained one of my brick-wall people. I'll keep everyone posted on the progress. Happy New Year to All!!! Best Wishes, Larry Witt 3271 Hwy. 39 Somerset, Ky. 42503
Lynne, If this response got through last night, I apologize for posting it twice. I think my e-mail server was on the blink last night and I'm not sure it made it. Nancy Hume Lynne, I have a somewhat distant interest in the Marple family. My brother married Carole Marple in 1967 in Glendale Ohio. Carole's parents were born and raised in Casey Co. At the moment, I don't have her dad's first name, but I am interested in following what you discover as I am curious if there is any relationship with the other branches of my family from Casey Co. I am researching Minton, Douglas, Hatter, Snow, & Gadberry. Please keep me in mind as you discover information. When I dig up her dad's name, I'll get back to you. Thanks
I need help finding information on Silence ? that was married to Edmu(o)nd FAIR of Casey Co. She was with him in Burke Co NC as they are both listed in court records as testifying against Tories after he fought in the Battle of Kings Mountain. If anyone out there could help me I would appreciate it. Silence's last name has escaped the rest of the family too. Judy
Hi, Lynne, Me again! I took a chance and looked on the l860 on page 92 of the printed census and it has a David J. listed with what looks like a brother as head of household named Bennet age 25, born Adair Co,KY. Delila age 44, then David J. age 20, Alexander 18, John 16, William H 14, Bennet H 12, Mary J 10. Ester A 4, George W 8/12, and a Mary Coppage age 26. All born Adair Co Ky. I will leave it up to you todecide if they made a mistake on the age of the first Bennet and that he might be the father or what.(?) Hope I have helped somewhat. Judy
Hi Lynne, I suppose you have the pension appliation that the wife applied for after the death of her husband. Lots of times a brother or sister would sign an affidavit for the widow so she could get the pension. I will be happy to look up an older census if you have not done so. Judy
I am look for information on the Marples of Casey County. My ggg grandfather was Dave Marple (b1839 d 1891) and he m. Sophronia J. Woodrum (b. 1840 d. 1915) in 1863. Does anybody know what David's parent might have been? All I know is that David serve in the Civil War in Co A 1st Ky Cav. for the Union, but know information about parents or siblings. Thanks Lynne Dutton
Has anyone else noticed that "spins and weaves" shows up quite a bit for ladies' occupations in the mid-1800s census for Casey County? This was listed instead of "housewife" for many women. I like it since it's more descriptive. But it's so unusual that you have to wonder if there was an early feminist among the census takers! Paula Wethington Rose

Hi, Just joined this list, received my first digest and thought I would post my interest in Casey Co., KY. My grandfather was Clay H. VEST, b. 1872 Casey Co. married Mattie Carter whose parents were John Elliston CARTER and Johanna Crutchfield DAVENPORT. Clay wound up in Pulaski Co., KY, living in Burnside and later Sloans Valley where he was a blacksmith and operated a comercial venture, the Crystal Caves. Clay VEST was son of John William VEST, b. 1846 Casey Co., KY and Mary J. CRAVENS, b. 1844 in Casey Co., KY (no info on her parents). John William VEST had 7 children born in Casey Co., Serrelda, Charles, Clay, Henry, Ada, Welby and Thomas. John William VEST was the son of Joseph E. VEST, b. 1822, Montonville, Casey Co., KY married to Martha Ann SMITH, b. 1818 in KY. They had 8 children, Jacob W.; John William; Fielding W.; Phillip McDowell; Dorinda E.; Benjamin Franklin; Nancy and Mary E. VEST. I have some descendents of four of these children. I believe John to be the son of James VEST and Nancy HENSON. Anyone who can shed any light on this family is asked to contact me. I operate a VEST family home page accessed from my Family Homepage listed below. Thanks, Tom Land -- Tom Land gtrl@esper.com When you shake the family tree wondrous stories pour forth! Hello Everyone!! I have received tons of information from a lot of helpful people on my surnames and I want to thank everyone for their valuable time. Although I still have not found my connection as yet. It may be there and I not know it yet. My Grandfather is Fred Durham born in Kentucky somewhere and my Grandmother Bertha L. Heady not sure when they were married but they moved to Indiana and all their children were born in Indiana. I know its out there somewhere just have over looked something somewhere. Thanks to all
My Cundiffs are from Pulaski County, right next door, I believe. Lynn
Are the Cundiffs you are researching also from Casey County? I have Cundiffs in my line but can trace the family back no further than late 1850s. Annette Smiley asmiley@hiwaay.net
Dear Wilma, Am interested in your Goode line, reading the recent e-mails etc. My father was born in Casey Co. Ky, in 1899. His last name was Smith. The reason that I zeroed in on this is that my fathers middle name was Goode. In those days it was not uncommon to give a child a middle name that was the same as the Dr. who delivered the child. So I am wondering if in your ancestral line you may have a DOCTOR Goode, one that would have been old enough to practice by the year 1899. I realize that this isn't very important in the big picture, but I have been unable to find much on my S mith, Casey Co line. Probably due to the last name being so common. Would appreciate hearing from you . Many thanks, Gloria
Wilma, Cousin, This is a tremendous help! Thanks for all the great info. I imagine I will be talking with you again. Lynn
