Trying to get some more information on the Russells. The 1870 - 1880 - 1900 CENSUS has them in Casey County (Big South Fork). John James Russell (Jul 1867) married 2nd wife Mary Carter on 24 Dec 1895 and had 3 children George G. (Sep 1889) Holbart L. (Sep 1895) Jesse (Oct 1897) Hugh E (Stepson) (Oct 1894) 1st Wife was Mary John's Dad was James R. Russell (1848)whose wife was Nancy J (1856) (believe she was 2nd wife) John J. (1867) Kenny H. (1872) Ida B. (1874) I know George G. son of John James move to Illinois because he was my grandfather. Don't know where everyone else went. Stuck on James R. as to where he came from (I will have to check the 1850 CENSUS). If anyone has any lines coming off these people I would sure like to know. Thank you. Hi Casey Co. Ancestor Hunters, I will not change any data sent in but will merge all of the file into one file. This will result in some duplications since there certainly will be different info from different sources. There may be opposing info but since you will have all references you will have the clues to look and see which is correct. There is no way to verify any info without referring to the original and since we can't confirm all data included in such a large database we hope that anyone who has corrections to make concerning this project will please do so. This large collection of info you will recieve in this collaboration is intended to provide a guide and not a documentation as to the authenticity of the info.
Will there be any changes in our data before it is returned to us in the one big Casey gedcom file? Sherry, have you tried Amherst County VA? This is where Jordan married Elizabeth Goode. Maybe Sally is there. Good luck. I am looking for information on James White who md (we think) Nancy White 17 Dec 1803 Lincoln County KY; then, married (we are sure) Lindsay Graham 16 Mar 1815 Casey County KY. He had five boys and two girls. What became of this family? Where were they in 1850? Thank you. Hazel
UNSUBSCRIBE, please.
If anyone is interested in the Jordon Rousey family of Casey County KY --- I just received a copy of an 1897 newspaper article about the Rousey brothers that was in The Kentucky Explorer, March 1997, pages 39-40. The Kentucy Explorer article is titled "The Story of the Rouseys - Brothers Who Died With Their Boots On, Casey County's Rousey Clan Was Well-Known 100 Years Ago". It includes a photograph of the Rousey Cemetery in the Butchertown area of northern Casey County and photographs of the tombstones of Cam Rousey, 1845-1881 and Micajah (Cage) Rousey, 1836-1894. I'm trying to find out if Jordon Rousey's sister Sally Rousey married in 1813 Joshua Lair, or Joshua Lain ... still don't know! Let me known if you'd like a copy. Sherry sherryb@easystreet.com
Larry, I have info on Carters in Casey County and Vests. I don't want to send a GEDCOM due to size and there are quite a few living "cuzzins" in it and they wouldn't like it much. What can I send you that will help? Do you have Microsoft Word? John Carter -----Original Message----- From: Larry Witt [SMTP:photo@som-uky.campus.mci.net] Sent: Thursday, October 15, 1998 1:21 AM To: KYCASEY-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [KYCASEY-L] gedcom collection Hi all, This Larry Witt to talk a little more about the new project I have started. It has started very well and I have recieved about 7 gedcoms already. Some have a few thousand persons listed and other have under a hundred. There is no requirement for a set number to participate in this project. Also, if you want to contribute and not recieve a combined copy that will be alright also. I plan to end this project in about a month and then merge all of the gedcoms into one huge file. A few people have expressed a concern that their program will not accomodate a number in excess of 1600. My file contains 19,000 and I have already collected over 5000 more. Of course some of these are duplicates but I intend to leave these duplicates seperate in the file. The reason for this is so that if there are errors, which I'm sure there will be, at least the correct info may be put forth by some other contributor. It sometime is a wise thing to evaluate the total info since a person with alot of info on a given person tends to have researched longer or more in depth. The main purpose of this project is to preserve our history and our ancestors history for future generations. I feel the larger the database the better the chance for finding a lost relative. It also helps to weed out a mistake when several researchers can evaluate similar info. If your family tree program can not hold more than a limited number of persons please contribute what you have anyway so that generations to come can share in your research. I will gladly do a decendent chart for you from the large file and email to anyone with a limited program. Before I send out the large combined file I will announce I have it ready and will ask all persons who have contributed to respond with a confirmation that they want to receive it. I am very excited about the possibilities how this project can help us and other researchers years from now locate someone lost in time.
Larry, That's wonderful of You to take on such a huge project. Good Luck. Jenny Oldham
Hello Sherry, Try the following USGS web site, http://www-nmd.usgs.gov/www/gnis/gnisform.html It's the US Geological Service search engine for national geological data. If it isn't there it probably isn't listed anywhere else either. We are searching for early 1800 century ALLEN/SCOTT/WINTERS from Casey county. I checked the "1880 Census of Casey Co., Kentucky" by Carol L. Sanders and didn't find your James T. and Mary Jane (Morris) Goode. There are quite a few other Goode and Good families listed. Good luck with your research! I am sorry. I did not find Garton's Branch. Lots of little streams with no names. Do you perhaps know a church or cemetery in that area? Also, be sure to check Boyle and Marion Counties. Rolling Fork has two branches which make a break in southwestern Boyle. South Rolling Fork is in Casey but the entire territory is very small. Sometimes, in situations like this, the court work would be done in whatever county seat the person found most convenient even if the land was on the other side of the line or it it straddled the line. Good luck. I have a Samuel Napier marrying Julia E. Johnson 01/09/1887 from Casey County Marriages Book. Also, Thomas G. Watson marrying M.S. Watson 05/15/1894 Sorry, That's all I could find. I have been through all that I have. There is no such marriage in anything here. It is probably in Marion as you said and just got omitted from the book. You know how that goes. I think I sent last message to wrong address. Did you receive the one with 1850 and 1860 censuses? Hazel

Ah, this is better. I'll bet that age in 1870 book is a typo. 1850 Casey County: James T Good 24 MO, Mary J 22 KY, Robert F 2, William G 1 1860 Casey County: James T Goode 34 MO, Mary J 32, Robert F 13, William J 11, Margrett 9, Mary E 7, John A 5, Martha A 3, Harlin T 6/12. Next door is a John Morris 54 with wife Elizabeth 53 and children. Are they parents of Mary Jane? I am off to chase down the marriage. Hazel
1870 Casey: James Goode 44 farmer MO, Mary J 52 KY, Robt T 22, William J 21, Margaret 19, Elizabeth 17, Mary E 16, John A 13, Martha 11, Harlin T 9, Frank W 7, Sherman 5, Nancy S 3, George 1. There is no such marriage in the Marion County KY book. Are you sure they married there? Books are not perfect! Let me go off-line and do some digging. I have a good collection of Goodes. Do you know James's parents? Interesting that he was born in MO. Hazel
Does anyone know where Garton's Branch is located in Casey County Kentucky? My GGG grandfather Elias Lane (son of Daniel Lane) purchased 39 acres of land on the watercourse of "Gertons Branch" in 1851. When he sold the 39 acres in 1852, the deed shows the land to be on the Casey and Marion county line on the watercourse of the Rolling Fork. Any help will be greatly appreciated! Thanks! Would I be out of line to ask that you only send GEDCOMS to those who want them? Some of us cannot handle them. I hope this does not offend anyone. It is just that I have already had more than my share of problems with receiving GEDCOMS. Thank you much.
