What's nice is that Gedcom files can be swapped by just about anybody. My mother has an old DOS version of Family Tree Maker for IBM. We used to keep everything on her computer but then I bought Reunion for Macintosh. I exported from FTM to Gedcom, uploaded to Reunion and there were the family files. I made my updates, exported out to Gedcom, and she got all my current information. Some things we've noticed: The names, birthdates and vital statistics translated fine. We did notice that wherever a ? was entered for a date in FTM, my Reunion program did not recognize the question mark and instead put a "See Notes" memo in that field. The "notes field," "source field," "misc. field", "card 4" -- whatever you all call that small text file attached to each person's card in your various programs -- does not always translate well. We are having to manually check each person's note fields for garbage characters and broken sentences. And be sure you know what your program's limitations are on the number of people. My mom's old FTM program cannot hold as many people in a file as my Reunion program will. Paula Wethington Rose

    2. Larry, Are you any kin to Minerva Minton Camden Lanham? She is buried at Mckinney. Her parents are Philip Minton and Mary "Polly" McClure who are buried at the old McCormack Church Cemetery. Minerva married Albert Lanham in 1869, so Albert would have raised my grandfather who was only 7 years old when they married. i haven't been able to find where Albert Lanham is buried. Thanks, Phyllis

    2. Ellwyn: Genealogy isn't an exact science because records are kept by human beings, and human beings make mistakes. I'm sure we've all encountered those mistakes in death certificates, census records, etc. We can only do our best investigative work, and hope we come up with the right answers. GENETICS is an exact science, but GENEALOGY is not. :-) Christy

    2. Hi, >From what little I know about this line, I was under the impression that the Hite line you're referring to is not the same as my Hight line. patrick Hight, my fourth gr.grandfather, was born between 1761-62 calculating from the pension application papers. He died after 1851, probably in Casey County. in the 1850 Casey County census he was living next door to his daughter Elizabeth "Betsey" Hight McWhorter and is listed as age 83. I do have his pension application papers and his name is spelled Hight and Hite both in the body of the document. I've tried to find where he is buried but have no leads at all. Patrick Hight was a pioneer of Casey County and was a wheelwright. His father was John who was born abt. 1725 in Virginia. Patrick married an Elizabeth but I do not have any idea what her maiden name was. I could sure use any help you can give me. I'm very curious about this line since I have it on my mothers, paternal and maternal lines. I also have John Hight, Sr. who married Elizabeth Camden in Virginia on March 11, 1812. John Hight, Sr. is the son of Patrick's brother Matthew. Thanks, Phyllis

    1. [KYCASEY-L] Setting the record straight
    2. Hi neighbors, I just wanted to set the record straight about a book at the Wayne Co. library at Monticello KY. In a book by a Johnson (who lives in California ) , there are some mistakes, which we all make, that I would like to offer an alternative senerio to. I don`t think these mistakes are intentional, and I believe that he has made a great effort to contribute accurate information. The book is in the geneology section of the library, for those who would like to check. The problem begins with the children of George Washington Johnson and Eliza Corder. These are my wifes G. Grandparents. It would appear that the information is correct up to George Washington. The children listed dosn`t include Henry E. Johnson , my wifes Grandfather. That is not a real big problem , as he may not have know about him at the time. The problem really is compounded from the beginning with the children of James Johnson, of which 2 are important in this senerio. Robert Johnson, and Frances Asbury Frank Johnson , brothers . He has Robert Johnson as the Father of George Washington, this is correct. He has Frances Asbury Johnson as the father of Coleman F. Johnson , and this is correct. The error begins when he list Henry E. Johnson as the son of Coleman, instead of George. In the report of Henry E. he list the wrong wife, the wrong birthdate, and the picture is not of Henry E. Johnson. He does have some of the children correct, and the place of buriel correct ( Tanner Cemetery,Plesant hill, Pulaski Co. KY. ). He also has the place of birth correct Jabez, Russell Co. Ky. The correct linage for Henry E. Johnson is, Born Feburary 22, 1883 Died December 1 , 1950 Married Alpha Smith December 15 , 1905 Their children are: Sally Opal , born October , 26, 1906 Ray Edward , born April 2 1910 Mary Jean , born May 7 , 1912 Laura May , born August 22 , 1913 Alpha died November 20 , 1918, and Henry married Jennie Girdler January 1 , 1921 Children of Henry and Jennie are: Russell Eugene , born November 4 , 1921 Jewel Wilson , born November 9, 1922 Lesta Mae , born June 12, 1924 Georgie Imogene , born June 14 , 1925 Helen Marqitte , born June 3 ,1926 Virgina Fugima , born July 18 , 1929 Clyde Charles , born August 17 , 1931 Henry and Alpha were the parents of my wifes father Ray Edward Johnson. All of Henry and Alpha`s children were born in Wayne Co. Mill Springs area. I know the above to be true, and can be verified by birth, and census records of Wayne, and Pulaski Co. I want to assure everyone that I am in no way challenging the honesty , or integrity of the Author , as a lot of his information came from a multitude of people. Mistakes are made, and my effort here is to help, not belittle anyone, so please accept this information in the spirit it is given. Thank you all Robert D. Cron------ BOB

    2. Hi, I am a native Kentuckian searching for roots in both Casey and Lincoln County. The Sir names I am looking for are: Snow, Estes (especially in Lincoln Co.), Wall, Ryan, Perkins. My grandfather was Clay Snow of Casey County and my grand other was Lizzie Perkins Snow, I believe she came from Sterns, KY. Originally. My grandfather Estes, whom I really have little information on was Herbert B. Estes. He had a brother, Edsil and a brother, Esto, who died around early 40's. His parents were Tom Roe Estes & Laura Estes. I do not know her maiden name. My grandfather, Herbert passed away in 1961, and is buried in the McKinney Cemetery, along with my grandmother, Ella Mae Wall Estes. Does anyone know of any web sites in Ky. in Lincoln Co. that I might search? I'm new at this and know very little about how to begin finding these relatives. I have some information on my Grandparents Snow, and quite a bit on the Wall & Ryan connection, but the Estes family I'm really interested in. Any info would be appreciated and I would be glad to share any information I have with anyone interested. My Grandfather Snow's family came here from England and their name was Snowden. Changed to Snow. My Grandmother Perkins Snow came from Sterns & is 1/4 Cherokee Indian. The Ryan's came from Ireland with the name of O'Ryan, and the Wall family also with the name Wallas. My parents names were Charles Edsil Estes & Ruby Lee Snow Estes, deceased in l988 & l989. Thanks, Barbara (Estes) Reed Danville, Indiana Bfestes@aol.com

    2. Hi, I thought perhaps I should give the list the surnames that I am researching in Casey County. Many of my ancestors had original land grants and they were there through out the 1800's. CAMDEN, DOOLIN, GIBSON, HIGHT/HITE, JASPER, MCANINCH, MCWHORTER, MINTON, ROSS, SPEARS AND TARTER. Several were also in Lincoln and Pulaski Counties. Thanks, Phyllis Peterson
