Dr Lewis Wesley shows in his papers that Ottis Ross married Nannie Godbey, (dau of John Riley Godbey and Maggie Wesley) who was born 3 May 1914. Can anyone, please, tell me the proof of her date of birth and parent's names? Ellwyn L Worley ELWorley@Worldnet.att.net
I am looking for any information regarding the Beltons. My ggg grandfather was James Belton and he was married to Margaret Staton. I do know that James' father was Abner T. Belton, however I have no other information. Thanks Lynne Dutton
If that list is available I would like to see it too. I'm pretty sure I have ancestors buried there. I believe that my g-grandfather and g-grandmother, James W. McDaniel and his wife Milly are buried in the Jones Chapel cemetery on the Taylor County - Casey County line. The cemetery is on a road called Bass Ridge road. But I believe that the south side of the road is in Casey county and the cemetery would be in Casey. Is there a list of the people buried in the Jones Chapel cemetery and also is there a James W. McDaniel in the Casey county 1870 census report? I would greatly appreciate any help. Thank you. In response to Bob Farmer query. I would also like the listings for the JONES CHAPEL cemetery. Is your James McDaniel descended from Spencer Mc Daniel and Elizabeth Randall, who came from VA to KY at an early time period? Spencer's daughter, Polly McDaniel married John M Weddle (my ancestor). Polly was born Oct. t, 1783 and died June 1852. Would like to know if you are descended from Spencer Mc Daniel too. Bertha Emmett

I am seeking information on Roland/Riland/Rolan Burks who was in Casey Co.Ky. in 1810 and probably before...Does anyone have any information on this man or family...J.DeLong
Hello, Am search Allen Burks Sr, etc. Here are some notes I have cut and pasted from my genealogy program. Your Roland is in it. Denell Burks The following is information for William Burks. The information reasons that William is the father of Allen James Burks Sr. Other likely sons are George, Willis Levy. Elizabeth as daughter. b 1768 George m Rhoda Emerson b 1770 Mary m Daniel Ross b 1771 Allen m Sarah Berry & Elizabeth Townsend b 1880 Willis m Mary Tempe b 1886 Levi m Sarah Pigg & Amy White 1810 Mercer Co census: Males 16 to 26 = Willis and Levey Males 26 to 45 = Roland, Allen, and George Males 45 and up= William and John (relative of William?) In the fall of 1997, Denell sent in a query to the Harrodsburg Histoical Society, for research on Allen James Burks, Sr. The following is their response: Harrodsburg Historical Society The Morgan Row Museum and Researh Center 220 South Chiles Street, P. O. Box 316 Harrodsburg, KY 40330 606-734-3985 Dear Mrs. Burks, We have done a tremendous amount of work on the Burks, Berrys and Townsends. We have not been able to find answers to many of your questions. We are enclosing material which will probably be of interest to you, even though there are no clear relationships shown. We are of the opinion that Allen Burks, Sr. and George Burks, Sr. and Levi of this area are brothers and that their father is William Burks who is shown in Lincoln Co householders in 1787 and later. There is an older William living next to Levy (Levi) in the 1810 census of Casey Co. He and his wife are listed as over 45 years of age. This would make him (Wm) a generation older than Allen Burks. We are not sure of the parentage of Sarah/Sally Berry. If Nancy Berry Martin gave consent as Sarah's guardian, this indicates that Nancy Berry Martin was her mother. This would suggest that Nancy was the widow Berry who married John Martin. We believe Allen J. Burks probably had a son Berry Burks because he appears with Allen Burks in the 1820 tax list of Mercer Co. We are sorry we can't show records that prove relationships. We wonder if something more definite could be found in Lincoln or Casey Co.? Baker and Isou, Researchers ----- The Harrodsburg Historical Society enclosed the following letter from their archives: "University of Baltimore 1420 north Charles Street Baltimore 1, Maryland March 28, 1963 Dear Sir: I wonder if I may enlist your assistance re some data possibly in your records. It is impossible for me to come to Mercer County myself. I. Does your index to wills on record have the will of a Mr. Townsend 1800-1850?who had a daughter Elizabeth Townsend Burks, wife of Allen Burks? If so, what would be the charge for getting a copy of the will (need not be certified)? Answer: No will. II. Allen Burks (may be also called James Allen Burks) moved from Mercer Co to Indiana after1820 (perhaps about 1824?). He owned a great deal of land. Do you have any deeds of sale from him in this general time period that would indicate sale of his total (can't read a few words) all at one time or separately. Answer: No. III. Are there any deeds on record from Allen Burks in which his wife, Elizabeth, is mentioned or in which her dower rights are mentioned? Answer: No. IV. Are there any deeds or wills or records that would indicate the blood kinship or ancestry of George, John Peartree, Allen, Berry, Levi, John, Floyd, or Edmund Burks? I believe George to be Allen's brother and Berry, perhaps, Allen's son by his marriage with Sally Berry in 1790 (first marriage). Answer: No. V. Any Townsend deeds in early 1800's? No answer shown. I hope you can help me. It means so very much to me. I will be willing to pay your for your trouble in looking at index and documents. Sincerely yours, (Rev.) Daniel B. Are you interested in land that fell in Ky? If so: I might first suggest that you write to Kandie Adkinson (a Harrodsburg girl who still lives here but works in Frankfort) Administrative Specialist Land Office of the Secretary of State Frankfort, Ky. Ask her for her article in Saddlebag Notes Vol 13, No 3, May/June 1990 "The Kentucky Land Grant System" Her article clearly explains the complicated Ky land grant system. All the land grants in the area that became Ky (even those granted by Va) are located in her office & under her domain. If you have the numbers on your specific grant just send a check made out to Sect'y of State & include the information from the grant and request a copy (you will get a photo-copy from the micro-film in just a few days. Hint: ask for all the papers - just in case there are some depositions ..just tell her you are interested in genealogy (she is one herself and author of at least on book on her family) & she will know what you want. I have both books on land grants in Ky..the grants under Va & the grants while still Va. & will be glad to send you any data out of these if I can help. Hello: I am researching the family of Allen Burks Sr. He is found in Lincoln, Mercer and Casey counties of KY from 1794 to 1824. He has ties with the surname Shackleford: When Allen Burks Sr was 23 yrs./1794 m Sarah/Sally Berry, 21 Jul 1794, Mercer Co., KY witness is John Shackelford, surety is Charles Duncan Nancy Berry Martin is noted as Sarahs guardian. (Nancy Berry married John Martin, 17 Jan 1781, Lincoln Co., KY. Lincoln Co KY Rec. Vol, p. 37. By Michael L. Cook. ) 33 yrs./1804 08 Aug 1804 Allen Burks is security for Richard Shacklefords executed bond. (For ordination?). Some Original Land Grant Land Surveys Along Green River In Lincoln and Casey Co. KY, 1791-1836 by James Sutherland, p. 485, at Sutro Library in SF, CA. Is this the same security as the one listed in "The Men, Women, Events, Institutions and Lore of Casey Co., KY", p. 15, by Watkins found in Sutro Library, SF, CA: Richard Shackleford produced credentials of his ordination of his being in communion with the Christian Society and took the oath required by law, whereupon a testimonial is granted him in due form of law upon making bond with Allen Burk(e)s as security in the sum of $500 conditional as law directs. Then again, I found: 24 Aug1808 Richard Shackleford produced credentials of his ordination of his being in communion with the Christian Society and took the oath required by law, whereupon a testimonial is granted him in due form of law upon his making bond with Allen Burks his security in the sum of $500 pounds conditioned as law directs. My main object for checking into the Shackleford connection is to see if Allen Burks if I can discover a link to where Allen comes from in VA. Maybe through finding out which church Shackleford is connected with, I can discover other things. Like where when his first wife Sarah/Sally Berry died. When/where did he marry Elizabeth Townsend. Or anything else for that matter. Any help would be appreciated. Denell burks
