As there has been several posting on the Belden/Belton names I thought this might help someone. Here's a list of the Belden and Belton grooms who married in Casey, 1807-1915. The numbers at the end stand for book and page number; if you find a name in book 1 all it gives is who married the couple; if you find a name in book 2 or 3 let me know and I will see what else I can find on the film (#591587) for you. Sorry, but I only have the index for book 4. Belden, John, 19 Jan. 1832, Sallie Mason 1-43 Belden, John D., 2 April 1831, Malissa J. Hello, Just this minute join your mailing list. I am looking for a George Justice he was born in Kentucky. Born 1/17/1854.We know nothing of his parents, siblings, grandparents, etc. Just George forward to us. He married in Missouri in 1895 to a Dora Hill. (second marriage). Any help would be greatly appreciated. It was suggested that he may have come from this county, that is why I am starting here. Thanks in advance. Sharon
Hi Pat! I'm very interested. If my info is correct, Abner was probably my GGGGrandfather. If John was their son (who married Malinda), their daughter Mary was my Grandmother (married GGrandfather Thomas J. Farmer). My Dad tells me he was told that she died young of breast cancer. She is not listed with her husband and 4 sons in the 1897 school census so I assume she had died by then. So, if all above is true, I'm very interested and appreciate the offer. Thank you so much! Abner T. Belton owned land on Gum Lick Road, (the old barn is still standing). The old Belton school house is just across the road and up a bit on Gum Lick. If you continue south about 1/2 mile you will see the cemetery. It was the Belton cemetery and now called the Gum Lick Cemetery. It is located directly behind the Gum Lick Christian church. This land was all in the Belton Family at one time. I can see the church and cemetery from my kitchen window and have often heard of the Beltons. Would love to have you all hear the narrations about the Beltons from a lady at church. She knew them, and their children all growing up together. If you are interested, I can call her on the phone and have her dictate some of the Belton descriptive stories. In turn I could type it up and put this on the net for you. Let me know if there is interest. Kind Regards, Pat Brooks
Evan Thomas married Margaret Roberts and was listed on the 1850 Casey County census. His daughter, Ann married James Ellis, and was also in Casey Co. in 1850. Does anyone have information on the Evan Thomas family? Or James Ellis? Evan Thomas, 55 yrs, b TN; Margaret, 53, b TN; Margaret J., 22, b TN; Evan, 21, b TN; James, 18, b TN; Elizabeth, 16, b TN; Rachel, 13, b TN; Jennett, 11, b TN. Is there a cemetery listing for Evan and Margaret? Any help would be appreciated! Thank you, Bertha Emmett
For someone who might be interested: Verbal memories of Lorene Murphy Noel Clarence Belton's father was Atterson Belton. Atterson Belton had a store across the Gum Lick Creek and Road from where the old church was located. That is where the town of Atterson got it's name. Later, Atterson was moved up the creek to where it crossed the creek. (the remains of a few buildings are still there). Atterson had a grist mill, two stores, a post office, and a saw mill. Clarence Belton had a son named Vitus and daughters named Vatus and Ada. They are all buried at Gum Lick Cemetery except for Vatus. Vitus Belton's daughter is Juanita Belton Wethington who now lives on Ky Hwy 1859 in Liberty. Clarence Belton married Lula Wethington, Vitus married Elsie Heistand. Elsie was Thornton Heistands daughter. Thornton Heistand's wife was Lottie (Charlotte) Wethington. Abner Belton married Amanda (Mandy ) Woodrum. They had a boy named Edgar and they called him Buck. He died in France during WWI of pneumonia. They also had a daugter Myrtie. Myrtie Belton married Conrad Belton the son of Oscar Belton. They also had a son named Sherman who married Alice Wethington, and a son John who married Mae Earls. Clarence Belton and Oscar Belton were brothers. They also had a sister named Sarah who married Robert Earls. It was Robert Earls that donated the land for the old Gum Lick Church which was a Union church. Oscar and his wife Nannie Overstreet had children: Conrad, Leila, Pauline who married B.H. Crowe, and Gene (Eugene) and anothr girl named Lottie. Pauline and B.H. Crowe donated the land for the Gum Lick Christian Church. Oscar and Nannie's house is still standing it is up on a bank near the Gum Lick Church. Oscar was called "Mr Boy Belton" by most everyone that new him. Abner Belton's home was on what is now Abner Hill road, just a turn off up the hill over Gum Lick Road. The home is still standing and is where Rose and Jim Peyton now live. The barn that stands behind the house is really a neat old English style barn. Very unusual looking for this area. Under the layers of siding on the house, I believe it is still an old cabin. There was another Belton, Quimnton Belton who had a farm on Chicken Gizzard Rd now Hwy 1859. This is the next road over from Gum Lick Road and is connected by the Abner Hill Rd. Quinton Belton at one time owned the farm, part of which is now owned by Bennie Noel. Abner Belton owned one of the first cars in this part of the country. They all attended Gum Lick Church and he was a leader in the church. "He did not like Sunday School being called Sunday School". They are both buried in the Gum Lick Cemetery which was at one time called the Belton Cemetery. The old school (Gum Lick School) was just up the hollow in front of the old church. The new school built in 1941 is still standing, located on Gum Lick Road near where Sherman Belton's house Stood. His old house burned about six years ago. It was on the corner of Gum Lick and Abner Hill Road.
Hi, I saw your query in Casey, I knew some Justice's in Lincoln Co. many years ago. You might try there. bfestes@aol.com
Thanks for the information for James O. Belden and Margaret Swiggett, you confirmed the marriage date I had (July 1, 1857). In case anyone else is looking there are quite a few Belden who settled in Casey County. James' father (John) and his uncle James settled in Casey County about 1820. As evidenced in the visitor register of my grandfather's funeral in Casey County - there still remain quite a few Beldens. Leah McGee

Hi all: I am new to this list, but I figured I might as well get started :) I am looking for 2 men. One is a J.R. TURPIN, father(?) of Elias William TURPIN. Also looking for J.W. LUTTRELL, father(?) of Fannie Mae LUTTRELL. These men were listed as witnesses at the marriage of Elias W. TURPIN and Fannie Mae LUTTRELL in Casey county on 1Apr 1899. I have nothing else to go on, but I really need to locate some kind of info one either of these men. Any info at all would be greatly appreciated! Thanks! Robert Turpin
I agree with you on the Belton/Beldon, but a lot of times when looking at these films that isn't to plain a 'd' can really look like a 't' and the other way around that is why I just went ahead an sent those. That way if you know a wives name you would know to dig a little deeper (check another film) on the grooms name. And your very welcome, Malissa
Pat, You are so nice. All Casey Co. People seem to be. How wonderful of You to offer to do that. I am not related to Belton, but live in Belton, Texas .
I don't think we are talking about the same person. Belton is the last name I'm doing and not Beldon. I do know that James married Margaret Staton in June of 1870. I know that the names are really similar, however I do believe they are two separate families. Thanks Lynne
Lynn: My spelling is Belden, the similarity of the first names caught my attention - James and Margaret. Leah
Lynn: I believe if we're talking about the same James Belden, he was married to Margaret Swiggett. If they are one in the same, we probably share gggrandfathers. Let me know. Leah McGee

Melissa, You are so right. I found Rayborn spelled 3 totally different ways on one deed record.
Marriage Records of Casey Co., Ky. by Mrs. Eldred W. Melton shows: James BELTON m. Margaret E. Staton 12/20/1870. a James O. BELDEN m. Margaret Swiggett 7/1/1857. Is Margaret E. Staton related to R.W. Staton that married Matilda Stansberry Black Ellison on 9/19/1889 ?
