On 8 Feb. 1841 there was an order of the County Court of Casey to bind out Lewallen Sandifer, an infant, 5 years of age the 27 day of May 1841 unto John Clements until Lewallen shall arrive at the full age of 21 and teach him the art of a farmer and give him schooling to include reading, writing and arithmetic. I wonder if any of you can help me solve a mystery about my g-g-grandmother. MAHALA FRANCIS EDWARDS was born in 1852. She married my g-g-grandfather, JOHN MURPHY, on Oct. 13, 1870 in Casey County. She died on 11/28/1904 in Casey County. I have not been able to determine who her parents were. She is in the 1860 Casey County census, living in the Bennett Peyton household. She is not listed anywhere in the 1870 census; John Murphy is still listed with his family that year, and he and Mahala married later in the year. She is in the later censuses with John's household. Does anyone have a clue as to who Mahala's parents were? I've tried to find birth information and marriage bond information, but have not been successful. I have been reading, with interest, the discussion concerning the Peyton family. Does anyone know if a Martha Peyton, who married Robert Carter ca1770-1780 in VA, is mentioned. They came to around the Green and Hart Co., KY area. Where they died in early 1820s. Had children: Robert, Gibson, Britton, Mansfield, and some daughters.
