    2. William D. Allen Sr.
    3. Hello Betty, We do not have complete documentation that your Thomas J. Allen is connected to the Allens of early Casey county, just a strong suggestion that there is a possibility to follow up on. We have reference to a Thomas Allen, son of William D. Allen, who married Elizabeth W. (unknown last name). This Thomas had a sister who married in 1830 when your Thomas was about 7 years old (1830 - 7 = 1820), 1820 being the birth years you gave. A son of Robert Allen and Nancy Christerson Allen, Robert Allen Jr. married Marion Mills in 1800. In 1854 Mahala Mills married a John Allen, son of James and Susan Bronson Allen. The Allens of Casey county married Mills for two generations so that is the connection that could prove to be a lead for you. William D. Allen, father of the above Thomas, died before 1825. So there may be a will or probate record that might help you identify your Thomas. Good luck in your never-ending quest! Yours truly, Bill and Loydean Allen end -----Original Message----- From: David P. 3. List, I'm looking to contact anyone with information about David B. Guthrie b.1828 or William Guthrie b.<1800. In 1827 William Guthrie married my great grandmother Della Brewer after the death of her second husband. William had many older children but I think David was the only one Della and Guthrie had. I'm trying to find out what I can about this family. Thanks, Steve Brewer

Had no problems understanding the locals and be sure to try the Bread of Life Restaurant. Very sweet, helpful people everywhere we went!! Phyllis....another Californian!

I'd call and then give it a chance if you are the type to... I don't understand this addy, all I know is that you turn up into the little town of Liberty off the main route, at the Chicken Place (there's only one). As you progress up, the road winds to the South, and just as you begin to get into town, there is a fork that comes in from the NW. It is precisely at this co-joining that the B&B is located. I asked for directions, but the accent was so thick it was like a foreign language to me. Just figured it out. Simple really, the whole town is so small. LOVED the area. >From A Native Californian, Christen

    2. We are planning a trip to Casey Co. on 4-21-99 & 4-22-99 to do research and visit cemeteries. Can anyone recommend a nice place to stay? Any inns or B&Bs in the area? My husband's father's family is from there, but this is our first visit. We need to locate the Calvary Ridge Cemetery and the Durham family cemetery. We are researching the SLUDER, DURHAM & LUSTER surnames. Thank you, Judy Sluder

    3. I receive the Casey Co. list in digest form and the last one I received had two complete LOOOONG quoted messages. I run a couple of genealogy lists myself and try to advise list members to quote only the part of the message that will get the point across or clarify the response - and delete the rest! Long quotes waste bandwidth and are aggravating to fight through. At the risk of upsetting some, and that is certainly not my intent, I might make the same recommendation to this list. I've been doing internet genealogy for a long time and have learned this lesson myself the hard way. Just trying to share some friendly advise, not start a list war. Please send any responses to me personally, not the list. Happy trails, Tom Land -- Tom Land gtrl@esper.com When you shake the family tree wondrous stories pour forth! (Also some fruits & nuts!!) 2. Tom Land
    3. Last week I found myself driving through Kentucky within about 25 minutes of Liberty and Casey County. I hadn't been there since I was, well, it has been a number of years. I made myself free up an hour and drove over. It was a beautiful drive. I found the library with a really nice history/genealogy center. It is closed Thursdays and Sundays, open 10 AM to 6 PM otherwise except Saturday when hours are 9 AM to 3 PM. I also met Gladys Thomas, a wonderfully helpful lady who is working hard to extend the abilities of the library collection. They were adding computer terminals the day I was there. There are numerous genealogy files (none for my VEST line unfortunately) including one on Henson. I wish I had the time to do some research but basically just had time to meet a few folks. I paid my $10 and joined the Bicentennial Heritage Corporation and have already received my first newsletter. I visited the Casey Co., KY GenWeb page at her suggestion and found much helpful information. If you don't know about GenWeb you need to check it out. This is the way of the future for genealogy and it started in Kentucky! You can find Casey Co. through the Kentucky site at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~kygenweb/ Just wanted to share a bit of my experience with those who are talking about a trip soon. 3. Thanks to a wonderful researcher, Bill Davis, a couple of maps of the location of the early Kentucky stations is available on-line at Michael Wright's web site: http://www.precision-lock.com/sub2/kyforts.htm These came from an old KY History book, didn't jot down the name of it and have discarded the digest it was posted on. Perhaps one of the other listmembers who also belongs to KY-ROOTS has saved that info. It may be on the web page as well. I sure hope it gets warmer there, its time for summer. Maybe sometime you can come to Owensboro. You would really like it here. It is a medium size town. I am so glad we got to met, maybe the next time Paula comes to Ky you will be in Liberty, we will visit again. Talk to you later Wilma

    3. David; You would think so. But was likely one of the children of the children of (sorry) Benjamin Allen if so. He had 6 sons. You might try the FHC online. That's where I got what I have, and also it had a link to a web page on this family, created, I think by Larry Witt. Ummmmmmmmm...the sons are listed there. Remember if you go there, that it is a Beta site. I had to close my server out and re-enter a # of times, because it would tell me that something I had seen there before, wasn't there now! 3. Does anyone have a listing of the people buried in the Old Tapscott Cemetery, this is on Martin's Creek. There is about 25 graves in this Cemetery and only 2 have tombstones. All the rest have markers. Logger's have been back in there, and the Cemetery looks like no one has been there in years. My sister and my children (ages 14 & 17) cleaned up some of the trees and leaves and placed some flowers on each grave we found in March of this year. Some of the graves are sunken in quite a lot. My Ggrandmother is buried there, with a head stone and a set of twins. I have taken a lot of photos of this cemetery, and the resting place is a beautiful place. The deers run free, and I am sure there are snakes, just haven't seen any "yet". Have to cross the Creek, and drive up the Creek a little ways to get to the Cemetery. My "New" Van was draging bottom most of the way. "Don't tell my hubby, he would be upset with me". Thank You and hope someone can help, hope to get back to Kentucky soon and finish our cleaning of this Beautiful but "forgotten" Cemetery. Roberta

He supposedly was one of the "Can-tuc-kee" pioneers. As The earliest settlers in Kentucky were at Harrods Station and Fort Boonesborough in 1775. Before that time there were the long hunters, but I don't know if they were as early as 1760. I'm thinking early 1770s. The earliest Kentucky records would be found in Fincastle County, VA, which was created in 1772. It included all of Kentucky and parts of Virginia and West Virginia. Few records survive from this era. In 1776 Kentucky County was created and in 1780 it was split into Jefferson, Fayette and Lincoln. For Fincastle and Kentucky County records, see "Fincastle & Kentucky County Va - Ky Records & History, Volume 1," by Michaek L. Cook and Bettie A. Cummings Cook. Hope this helps. Jackie Couture

    3. Just left Casey Co this morning. It has been short sleeve weather until this morning and a light jacket was needed in the A.M.only. Lightening and rain last night. Beautiful today on the way out. Redbud looking great and dogwood beginning to bloom. Not so nice here at home. We have freezing rain and possible snow tomorrow. Motorist are being advised to say home tonight. Judy Fisk
