    1. [KYCASEY-L] Watsons of Casey Co.
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Watsons Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/lAB.2ACE/2916 Message Board Post: I am researching the Watsons of Casey Co., KY and here is what I have so far. I would love some input on this family. I believe that a gentleman named Robert Watson had three sons. Thomas, Pedigo, and John? Is he the Robert Watson listed in the 1788-1790 tax lists of Fayette Co., KY? There was a John Watson in the tax lists of Casey for 1815, 1816, and 1817. Thomas showed up in 1817 with 128 acres on Knob Creek (Fishing Creek?). No more Watsons till 1822 when Elizabeth was listed with 122 acres on Fishing Creek (same land as Thomas in 1817), John (Elizabeth's son who married Nancy LNU) and Pedigo. This is where it gets interesting. Pedigo Watson married 4 April 1815 in Harrison Co., IN to Miss Nancy Brown. They show up in the Orange Co., IN census for 1820 with two children, Mary (who marries 1838 in Pulaski Co., KY to George W. Vaught) and William (who marries 1842 in Pulaski Co., KY to Rebecca Randolph). In 1821 the family moves southeast to Casey Co. to live almost next door to Elizabeth Watson and her children. Proof of this is on 20 Nov 1822, Pedigo makes a "Headright Claim" for 290 acres on Rock Lick Creek and to do so one must live on the land for one year. Pedigo's daughter Elizabeth (who marries 1855 in Casey Co., KY to Logan Thomas) is born in 1821 and John Chester (who marries ca 1861 in Casey Co., KY to Eliza C.) is born in 1823. Pedigo is listed in the Casey Co. tax list for 1822 and 1823. From 1824 to 1826 he was listed in tax records for Wayne Co., Ky. where Levisa (who marries 1841 in Casey Co., KY to Andrew Jackson "Strawn" Straghan) is born in 1825. Pedigo is listed on the deli! quent list for 1826 as moving to Clay Co. It should have read Casey Co. Pedigo moves the family back to Casey Co. in 1826 and the sixth child Sarah (who marries 1856 in Casey Co., KY. to John Daniel Thomas) is born in 1827. Pedigo is listed in the taxs till 1829 when he dies in 1829 or 1830. Mrs. Nancy Watson disappeares for awhile because she remarries ca 1832 to Larkin Reynolds, who had also recently widowed. Nancy reappears in the Casey Co. census in 1840 right next door to Elizabeth Watson on page 162. She again appears on page 357 of the 1850 Casey Co. with Isham (her step son), J.C. and Betsey Watson (John C. and Elizabeth - Pedigo's children) and three children from her and Larkin, Nancy Frances, Matthew, and Dicey D. Next door at the Breeding home is Sarah, Pedigo's sixth child. My GGG grandfather, David Watson first appears on the tax lists in 1826 because he is now 21 years of age. He stays on the record till 1828 when he disappers from 1829 thru 1832 and returns in 1833. He did not marry Mary "Polly" Inlow because that David and Polly where ten years older than mine and while their son Jesse was also born in 1828, he married a woman named Harriett in Crawford Co., IN while my GGG uncle Jesse married a woman named Eliza in Casey Co., KY. Jesse Inlow also stated in his will in 1829 Crawford Co., IN that his daughter Polly was desceased so she would not have showed up on the census of Boyle Co. in 1850. Elizabeth (Bristo?) Watson was in tax records for Casey Co. from 1822 all the way thru to 1838 living on that same 120 or 128 acres of land on Fishing Creek along with John Dye (who married Elizabeth Watson), Shadrick Wesley (who married Nancy Watson), John Watson (who married Nancy LNU), Thomas Watson (who married Jane Cotton), Robert Watson (who married Priscilla Luttrell), William (Bristo?) Watson (who married Anna LNU), William Watson (who married Rebecca Randolph), and David Watson (who married Polly LNU). Elizabeth reappeared for the 1845 and 1846 tax list and then died in 1850. Thomas Watson, Sr. shows back up in 1849 listed with two other Thomases, John and Nancy's son and Thomas who married Jane Cotton. Okay, My questions are: 1. Where did the name "Bristo" come from. Birth or death certificate, recorded in a wedding, a deed, a bible? 2. Why did Thomas appear in the tax records in 1817 and then again in 1849. Where was he for over thirty years. Elizabeth was in the 1820, 1830, and 1840 census records for Casey Co. but no one (male or female) was listed with her and about her age. 3. Was he the Thomas Watson listed in 1830 census for Warrick Co., IN. Was he the Thomas who married in Warrick Co., IN to Nancy Cartwright. 4. Who is the Robert Watson, born ca 1816 in IN, who married Rebecca "Priscilla" Luttrell, and lived in Casey Co., KY from 1838 thru 1860. 5. Where was Pedigo Watson before he married in 1815 Indiana to Miss Brown. The 1820 census says the man was born between 1776 and 1794. He was older than Nancy and may appear in other records. 6. John Watson who married Nancy LNU was born in 1799 in Virginia. Where? I would love to know. 7. David Watson who married Mary "Polly" LNU. Was he the David listed in the 1830 census of Scott Co., KY. The family fits. Would love to know her last name since she is my GGG grandmother. 8. William B. Watson? Was his middle name Bristo. Was he named after his grandfather William Bristo? He married first to Anna LNU, and then second to Eliza J. LNU. What were their last names? 9. Does anyone know of these marriages. (a) Eliza who married John H. Sandifer. There was a John H. in 1860 Lincoln Co. but he was married to a Sarah J. (b) Jane who married Joseph Greggs. Is this the same Joseph who died in 1877 in Vigo Co., IN. I believe Jane was Elizabeth's or Thomas's daughter. (c) Lucinda who married James Haynes. OR (d) Rebecca who married James Fewell or Ferrell. 10. I e-mailed Cindy Pulford twice but got no response. Her mail kept coming back. Would very much like to talk to her or Faye Cram or really anybody who can help me sort this out. I hope I haven't offended anyone. Sorry Cousin Tom in Texas. Mary Inlow is not David's wife. Take Care; JR

    2. Couture, Jackie
    3. Hi all, I have spent the last week or so updating the Casey County genweb pages. Several new items have been added, so check it out. I've added a military page and if anyone has bios or photos of the men listed on those pages I would be glad to add them. I still have other ideas, my problem has been finding time to implement them. The next item will probably be a photo album as I have several photos that I can upload. After that I will try to get some of the 1911 death certificates online. I have had a volunteer to do all of 1911, I just need to get him copies to work from. http://www.rootsweb.com/~kycasey/caseypge.htm Any new ideas or suggestions will be appreciated. Jackie Couture

Yes, I need info on Joseph Fletcher. I have a disconnect with his children. George & Arch Fletcher were brothers; George is my gg-gpa. His wife's name is Eliza (no last name known). I have not been able to factually document the following: *George & Arch were brothers *Who their parents were (Arch's death cert. lists parents names unknown) *Eliza's last name *Where & when George died (all I know is it was a logging accident so it could have been anywhere) I have a census record that shows George & Eliza w/ 2 small boys. Their census # is right after Joseph Fletcher (+ wife & kids) in Lincoln Co. KY so one could assume they were living next door to his parents (Arch, btw, is living very close by w/ wife Anna Wilcher). Have never been able to find George & Arch living at home w/ Joseph so not 100% sure he's their father. Do you have a complete list of their children? I'm at work (info is at home) but I remember a lot of girls (Rachel being one). Going by age, George and Arch could have easily been the 2 oldest. Any help Kathy, I would really appreciate! Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/lAB.2ACE/2173.3.1.1.1.1.1 Message Board Post: Hi. Yes I am back. Can't remember if I answered your question or not. Joseph Fletcher married Lydia Snow 27 Sep 1802 in Surry Co NC. Frostin was thier bondsman. Both the Fletchers and the Snows came out of there. Frostin and his family were in Surry Co NC in the 1800 Census. I think several people have him leaving Surry earlier than he really had. On 18 Jan 1805 his daughter Mary "Polly" married in Lincoln Co. Ky . I believe Frostin was in Lincoln Co Ky by that time....However if he was, he came back to Surry Co. to sign as bondsman for his son Samuel's marriage marriage to Sarah Fletcher on 17 March 1805. On 26 Oct 1806 his son John marries Polly Pierce in Lincoln Co. By 1808 Frostin is showing up in land records in Lincoln Co. It could be that he moved to Lincoln Co and went back for part of his family. Or there were just so many ties to other families that his son Samuel wanted to marry Sarah Fletcher were her family was from. So Frostin went back with him. I think because people have Frostin Snow moving earlier than he did, people have accidently aligned Lydia and Samuel under "Frost And Snow"s children. Which is incorrect. I suspect that a few of his sons came to Lincoln Co prior to Frostin moving there. It could be even possible that he did not move there until after Samuel Snow was married and that Mary "Polly" Snow was there before Frostin arrived. In Records....Son William shows up in as early as 1803. Maybe he moved there first. Does this help. I will see what line I have for Joseph Fletcher. Kathy
