Laurel served in the Phillipine Insurrection. On his enlistment papers it stated that he was from Powers KY Casey CO. Apparently this town does not exist anymore, does anyone know where it was located? He lived in Powers at the time of his enlistment, the papers listed that he was also born there. The papers also stated that he had malaria 12 years prior to his enlistment which would have made him about 9 at that time. His parents were Milton E Brown and Malinda Cummins. He had an older brother, Paul. I know that the family lived in Sumner CO TN at the time of the 1880 census. My great grandpa also Milton was Laurel's half brother.

For those who tried to help me with the middle name of Nathan Myrtee Atwood, his middle name is Meredith, according to his death certificate. A cousin graciously provided that for me. Jax
