Today is election day and at 12 noon Joseph Pelphry, one of our best citizens, was shot and killed by J.C. Salyers , his brother-in-law. It was accidental. Saylers had been insulted by another party and Pelphry was trying to quiet him. 5/29/1884 Ashland Independent Johnson County - (Barnetts Creek) died on the 22nd, Mrs Mala, wife of Thomas Saylers, at age 39 years, 3 months and 4 days.
