I recieved this in response about my inquiry about Star Furnace Hi Earl, Star Furnace is an area located between Grayson and Rush in Carter Co. Of course, there was a furnace located there. Star is still a community today. In fact, Star Elementary School is an integral part of the Carter County Education System. Samuel P. Williams was named Postmaster of Star Furnace on 24 Jan 1848. Other Post Masters were Robert W. Lampton and Samuel McCullough. The Star Post Office was discontinued 18 May 1868. Sherry J.
