    2. Sharon Pike
    3. Lydia, I just tried the Rootsweb Town Search and it is working properly. Just fill in the name of the town and State and it will give you to county. I use it to search for towns without listing the state. I have found this useful when other researchers give me faulty information about the state where something happened. Knowing which states have a town of that name will help me sort out errors. It's a great site! Don't fall for the ancestry.com search screen at the top. That is an advertisement. (They can do this because Ancestry (or MyFamily.com) actually owns Rootsweb.) The rain has kept the leaves and the soil wet, and slippery. I did get three rolls of film developed from my first trek. Details of the stones are difficult to capture. I will go back with chalk some other way of bringing out the faded inscriptions. And surveyors tape to mark off the area. So far, starting at the lower part of the ridge, where I began, are the graves of the William family. So doubt, Williams Creek was named for this prolific family. This is a major project. The graves stretch for 1/4 miles up a ridge. It must be achieved before the snakes all start to move, because the leaves are deep. So, this won't help you much in the short term. I hope others will answer your question about the funeral home. Kilgore is located about 8 miles from Grayson and 18 miles from Ashland. Embalming was not required or widely accepted in rural communities. The habit was to bury the dead within 24 hours. I will look for Mr. Descent's grave, if it is marked, when I return. I hope you can shake loose something about the old history of the area. As you already know, the iron ore works and later the coal mines lured families into that area.
