    3. I'm a REEDER - MASTERS - HAM - SHUMATE (and others) researcher. My father was b: Carter Co. I didn't consider that the suggestion could be taken as a "advertisement". I had seen the suggestion on another site and, knowing that people visit cemeteries all of the Memorial weekend holiday, it seemed like an idea worth pursuing, to leave a message that you had been at the cemetery and would welcome contact from any relative or friend that visited and found your name, address - whatever you had left there. Benjamin REEDER and wife, Pricie RIGG, along with other RIGG and POWELL family members moved to Pike Co., IL in 1837. So I also search ILPIKE-L. There are REEDER surname families in KYKNOX-L and I research there. And in many other of the tens of thousands of ROOTSWEB and genealogy sites. So much to do, so little time. ~~~~~~ Lydia Justice Edwards wrote: May I ask who you are? if you are from Arkansas, why are you advertising on KYCARTER? On or about Memorial Day, when you visit your family graves, why not take a plastic bag that contains your name and where any other relative might find you ie: name, number, or email address. Put it on the stone with a stone or poke it into the dirt with a stick. In some cemeteries this may not work but in the really old ones you might be surprised. Who knows you might find a long lost cousin who has the photo's, family Bible and all the really 'good' stuff.

    3. Dear Lydia, The wonderful thing about RootsWeb is that anyone, from anywhere, can be a member of a mailing list (Even those of us from Arkansas! lol), and it's a very good thing since most of us are not fortunate enough to live in the same town (state, country!) where our ancestors did. Now with that said, please note that a) kenr's advice was not an advertisement, and b) his internet service is Arkansas.net (just as mine is ArkansasFamilies.net, and yours is qz.net)and has nothing at all to do with the post that he made. Hope this helps! :o) Take care, Diana List Admin ----- Original Message ----- From: "Lydia Justice Edwards" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Monday, April 26, 2004 5:49 AM Subject: Re: [KYCARTER] Good Idea May I ask who you are? if you are from Arkansas, why are you advertising on KYCARTER? According to Ancestry.com, I am told, is the following family: In the 1850 U.S. census for District No. 2, Carter County, Kentucky, Image 58 (no page number), line 20, dwelling 365, family 365 is John McGuire, age 32, male, farmer, b. in Ohio. With him is his wife, Eliza McGuire, age 28 and their 5 children: Emily McGuire, age 10; James McGuire, age 8; Stephen McGuire; William McGuire, age 4; Thomas McGuire, age 1. Wife and children b. in KY. Also in this household is Jelina Rice, age 16 and Harvey Rice, age 12. It says Jelina and Harvey have attended school within the year, and that they were born in Kentucky. Does anyone have any information on this family? I am particularly interested in the 2 Rice children living in this household; is there a relation between McGuire and Rice? G. Farmer
