Hello Keith, I'm Mary My Grandma was MinnieBelle daughter Phoebe Alfred Nelson Porter Mc Glone. Anyway this information was send to me I forward to you because you mention you was in search " Messer" information. By :)My father was born Carter Co. He's the son of my cousin Annel (Annie) Messer who is the daughter of Shirley Messer, son of John Edward Messer. From: "Messer, Carroll" <[email protected]> To: "'[email protected]'" <[email protected]> Subject: Messer Date: Mon, 15 Oct 2001 14:23:20 -0500 Our earliest known Messers apparently came through the Cumberland Gap in about 1780 and settled in the upper hollows of the Cumberland River in Knox County, in southeastern Kentucky. This first settlement was along Stinking Creek and probably near the small village of Walker. Several of the creeks which formed the hollows of this section of the Cumberland River Valley over the eons are frequently repeated in stories of the Messers. Stinking Creek, Turkey Creek Fighting Creek, and Trace Branch were often named in the stories that my grandmother Julia Fortney-Messer often told me about "back in Kentucky." After driving up Turkey Creek and Fortney Branch during August of 1988, I can better appreciate how each was its own little community but yet how close they all really were to one another. A map of Knox County, Kentucky is most helpful in tracing the history of the Messers. Using a detailed highway department county map, one can locate many of the creeks, villages and cemeteries that are so important to the Ambrose Messer Family Tree as I know it. Apparently this part of Knox County was a part of Clay County in the early 1800's. My tree of genealogy says that Ambrose Messer was my grandfather's grandfather of the same name. I have seen a picture of a backwoods elderly man setting on the porch of his home and holding a Bible with his wife standing beside him. I was told that this was Ambrose, a lay Christian preacher of his time. I now believe that Pearl Powell of Belzonia, OK had this picture and perhaps many more; I will soon check about this point. The name Ambrose is appropriate since St. Ambrose was a 3rd-Century religious libertarian from Italy--perhaps the forerunner of Roger Williams and Thomas Jefferson. The Messers also have tended to name some of their children after their grandparents. Abt 1789 John married Agnes Unknown, in South Carolina. Born abt 1755 in virginia. Lorene, This is a very small part of a file that was sent to me from Robbie Carroll, my second cousin. He's the son of my cousin Annel (Annie) Messer who is the daughter of Shirley Messer, son of John Edward Messer. However, the file is very extensive and came from Cassie Sommers and her years of research. I think this is her email address: [email protected] Cassie will be able to help you since she's an expert and I'm just starting. Sue First Generation ¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥ 1. John Messer. Born abt 1755 in Edgefield County, South Carolina. John died in Knox County, Kentucky. Prior to 1790, John Messer lived in Virginia and was in Edgefield, South Carolina. He was also in Wythe County, Virginia after 1794. He was awarded land in Kentucky for his service in the American Revolutionary War. Agnes died in Knox County, Kentucky. Agnes Unknown lived in Virginia and in South Carolina. Later she lived in Knox County, Kentucky. They had the following children: 2 i. William (~1782-) 3 ii. John (1786-1824) 4 iii. Stephen Dillard (1788->1860) 5 iv. Jacob (1790-) 6 v. Moses (1790->1870) 7 vi. Sarah (1793-) 8 vii. Sion (1794-1857) 9 viii. Prudence (1797-) 10 ix. Benjamin (~1800->1860) 11 x. Son (~1802-) 12 xi. Having no response to the "Adams, Large, Lyon" information I posted, I thought I would try again with another family line: The GREEN family. This family descends from Giles Green (b. 1799 VA) who came to KY about 1827. My great-great grandfather, his oldest child, Thomas Large was born 1820 in Virginia and died in Lawrence County, Kentucky. One of Thomas's sons was my great-grandfather, and apparently made his home, at least part of the time in the old home place of Thomas. This was Harmon or Harman Green (1856-1928), who married Mary Elizabeth Webb(1861-1936), d/o Wesley Webb and Abigail Pennington, of near Webbville. I am looking for information on Harman and Mary, and on their children. Some I know about: my grandfather Wm. Thomas who married Bertha Wright; Mollie Green who married Will Wright, brother of Bertha, Beecher who lived in the old homeplace, where two of his daughters still live. In particular, I am interested in information on Harmon's work for the EK Railroad and on the following children: NORA GREEN, b. JULY 24, 1881, Lawrence Co., KY; d. January 6,1967; m. CHARLES "CHARLIE" PENNINGTON, b. ca 1878, s/o LEWIS PRESTON PENNINGTON and FRANCES YATES; d. November 17, 1946. DORA GREEN, b. March 6, 1883, Lawrence Co., KY; d. September 21, 1933; m. 1st ANDREW JOHNSON; m. 2nd JAMES "JIM" BAYS; 2 children; m. 3rd FRED NORTON; 5 children. ROSA GREEN, b. June 1, 1888, Lawrence Co., KY; d. before 1975; m. OSCAR REEVES, b. before 1887; 11 children. EVERETT GREEN, b. August 07, 1893; d. June 29, 1970; m. LUCY YATES. HERBERT ARNOLD GREEN, b. March 7,1903; d. March 6, 1968 MINNIE MAE GREEN, b. May 1, 1905; d. before 2000; m.1st 01 January 1922, Blaze Branch, Carter Co., KY to WILLIAM ELLIS GOLLIHUE, b. 17 August 1902 in Willard, Carter Co., KY, d. 23 July 1967 in Franklin Furnace, Scioto Co., OH. ; m. 2nd EARL DELLOW (DILLON?). Now for the Alaska Tidbits: Fall is definitely in full swing here, with many of the leaves already gone. It has been beautiful this year, with the fall colors more intense than usual. Moose season just ended with a count of 20 bulls taken. My son-in-law did not get one, but his father did. Chilkat River was full of fisherman as I went to and come home from church. The silver salmon are in their annual late run, and the Canadians are down in great numbers to take advantage of this. Eagles are beginning to gather along the river, as the late run of silvers means a feast for them. In another month, Haines will host the Alaska Bald Eagle Festival with people from all over coming to view the thousands of eagles congregated in an area of a few miles, most of which parallels the highway, making for easy viewing. The mountains are white-topped as the snow season approaches. We usually have our first snow about the 20th of October, with snow on the ground for the winter before the first of November. Right ! now, I'm trying to get the garden and flowers ready for winter, and the spring bulbs planted. Come visit! Frankie

Hey Keith, I don't even know enough yet to know if we're related. All I know was that Jasper Tabor, my Grandmother Ethel Messer's father, lived on Woodside in Olive Hill. Jasper had several sons, but one in particular named Lane was always in trouble. In fact, I understand from my cousin Sharon Sue Messer, that Lane caused Jasper to lose his money because Lane shot the sheriff and Jasper gave up everything to get him out of trouble. Sharon also told me the Tabors were merchants. I know that Ethel's mother was a Cherokee Indian - Uncle Cotton had it and she looked like she could go right thru you. The only thing Dad remembered about her was that she smoked a pipe. Mom mentioned something about my Great Grandmother being "captured". Don't know if that is correct or not. However, that would have been about the time the U. S. Government was moving the Cherokee nation from North Carolina. That's all I know about that side of the family. Thanks for your help. Will keep your info and continue to research. Might be related because mine are in Olive Hill as well. They're offline from me but you never know. Here goes: My gggg grandfather was George Washington HENDERSON. His brother, James Alexander HENDERSON (b.7/6/1784 in PA, d.6/24/1866 in Olive Hill, KY) married Nancy Jane (Jennie) MILLER in Olive Hill. Their daughter Matilda HENDERSON (b.3/13/1821 in Greenup Co., KY, d.2/1/1872 in Carter Co., KY) married Addison Carl TABOR (b.4/20/1823 in VA d.6/8/1902 in Carter Co., KY) on 2/1/1841 in Carter Co., KY. Addison's parents were Basil Moab TABOR and Nancy JACKSON. Addison and Matilda had one son that I know of, Napoleon Bonaparte TABOR (b.1/27/1842 d.3/31/1877, both in Carter Co., KY) who married Frances DEHART (b. 1.24.1841 in Adair Co., KY d.5/28/1916 unkn). They married 3/25/1863 in Adair Co., KY. They had two kids (that I know of): Jemimah Jane (b.12.15.1864 d.3/15/1896 both in Carter Co., KY) and Sally M (b.4/2/1871 in Adair Co., KY). Jemimah married Richard A. BOND and Sally married his brother Ephriam BOND. Hope that helps a little. It has been quite some time since I have been able to update Tombstone Central. With the boys in School, Scouts, Soccer, not to mention me working and coaching soccer and the cubmaster for scouts then there is the everyday living such as finding time to eat and sleep. :-) At any rate a big thank you to all who have help donate cemetery photos. The following cemeteries have been added to Tombstone Central. Carter County Cemeteries Caroll Cemetery on Rattlesnake Ridge Hedge Cemetery on James Chapel Road Tacket Buckler Cemetery on James Chapel Road Knox County Cemeteries Farley Cemetery in Himyar Mealer Cemetery in Barbourville Happy Hunting, Cassy. PS Tombstone Cental can be located by going to any search engine and typing in the words "Tombstone Central" by looking for the site this way it keeps us number one and then easy for everyone to locate :-) -- 1. Perhaps they are not stars but rather openings which our loved ones can shine down on us. 2. Did you know in Kentucky it is illegal for a woman to marry the same man four times? 3. A law in Kentucky also forbids a housewife to move the furniture in the home without her husbands consent. TOMBSTONE CENTRAL http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~foe3643/

Suggest you look for any real estate deed records with Milton's name on them. Property disposed of after his death might have the names of relatives who were his heirs on the deed.
