Not sure if this is it, but Kentucky Wesleyan (now in Owensboro) was at one time Millersburg Male Methodist College in Bourbon County. Bourbon's about 2 counties west of Carter, I believe. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Linda Crawford" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Tuesday, October 26, 2004 4:08 PM Subject: [KYCARTER] Methodist College > Can someone help me with the name of an early Methodist College that was located in a county not too far west of Carter County? > I think the name has been changed from its original name. I have the answer about the Methodist College. It was Asbury College in Wilmore, Jessamine County. The original name of the college was Bethel Academy. A Carter County relative was supposed to have went to school at Asbury which was formed in 1890. It was a Methodist school. You are a great bunch to help. I appreciate it. Linda Crawford
Can someone help me with the name of an early Methodist College that was located in a county not too far west of Carter County? I think the name has been changed from its original name. It may not still be in existence, but I think it is just the name change. Linda Crawford
I see it now, Debbie. 1496 goes from Willard to Glenwood to Rt. 3. Don't know why I didn't see the "East Fork" on the map. Thanks for your help! Maybe I will run into you when I visit the area. I will be in KY on October 27-Nov. 12, to visit family and check out some family history things, including cemeteries. Frankie
Hey Frankie ! You are welcome. When Rt 1496 enters Lawrence county it is called East Fork. It connects to Rt 3. I live just a short ways from East Fork . Debbie
Debbie Webb wrote "There is a Lost Creek near Willard Ky in Carter County. It is Rt 1496. After it enters Lawrence Co. It is called East Fork. " Debbie, you have answered a question that I hadn't found the answer to: "Where is East Fork located?" I noticed many of the censuses list the area of East Fork, and I couldn't get it straight in my mind. I knew where Lost Creek was, but didn't realize it was also called East Fork in Lawrence County... THANKS! Frankie

That was a popular name with the ancestors. LOL :-) And actually, I'm only guessing Lost Creek as the original piece of paper that this info was jotted down on has "Ramey Cemetery, Loss Creek, Hopewell, Carter Co." There is no Loss Creek in Kentucky as far as I can determine. So, I assumed (a dangerous thing to do sometimes) she meant Lost Creek and the ONLY Hopewell in this part of KY is in Greenup Co., on KY Rt 1 right before you get to the Carter Co. line, and this Hopewell (actually Hopewell Furnace) is near the Lost Creek that's in Greenup Co. But I thought maybe it was just close enough to the Greenup/Carter county line, that some might say it was in Carter. One other thing that muddies the waters here, is the addition of Hopewell in the description of where g-grandpa John W. Jordan and his wife Ollie are buried. There's a bunch of Hopewells in KY, but only one in Northeast Kentucky, that's in Greenup Co., on KY Rt 1 right at the Carter Co. line, just past the turnoff to Lost Creek. Sooooooo, I'm thinking that is where Ramey Cemetery is located. In fact, I found a 4 yr old obit in the Elliott Co. News, where the lady was from Grayson and she was to buried in the Ramey Cemetery! So, there's a Ramey Cemetery out there somewhere with at least one soul in it. :-) I believe I'm going to call the funeral homes in the Grayson area and maybe Greenup also to see if any of them are familiar with Ramey Cemetery. I'd forgotten what a good resource they are until reminded of that on another forum. Anyway, thank you so much for the reply. If it is the one near Rt 1 it is in good condition. I think someone keeps it mowed and cleaned up. Several graves there now. Debbie
I know that area also and it isn't far from the Willard area. Just off Of State Route 1. Debbie
Is that the cemetery on the hill near where the John's Run Post Office used to be ? If so I am familiar with it . Debbie
Noticed you spoke of Lost Creek. There is a Lost Creek near Willard Ky in Carter County. It is Rt 1496. After it enters Lawrence Co. It is called East Fork. What are you looking for in the East Fork Cemetery ? I know this area pretty well. Debbie Webb

Thanks, Mary, for the information. I appreciate your help on this. But, I don't think they're buried in the Pike Co. area or in Ohio. I'm fairly sure that their graves are in either Lawrence, Carter, or maybe Greenup county. I 'm beginning to think that the original party that I got this information from is in error. Regretably, she's no longer with us. I should have started looking for this cemetery while she was still alive. Oh well.......... Anyway, I did some more research this morning and I'm starting to believe that this Ramey Cmty is near Hopewell, on Lost Creek in GREENUP county, not Carter county. There is a small area known as Hopewell, also known as Hopewell Furnace, in Greenup county, very near to the Carter/Greenup county line, just past the road to Lost Creek. I think that's the area I need to look for Ramey Cemty in - the Greenup/Carter county line vicinity near Hopewell & Lost Creek. Thanks again for the information Hugh Davis Worthington, KY ----- Original Message ----- From: "Mary" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Sunday, October 17, 2004 4:05 AM Subject: RE: [KYCARTER] Ramey Cemetery or East Fork Christian Church Cemetery DIRECTIONS REQUEST > Hello Sir this what I was able to find hope this will help you.
