    3. Cassy, in Carter County there was a large advertisement with a form, in the Grayson, Kentucky Journal Enquirer. It asked for people to fill in the names of cemeteries that were in danger of obliteration, or had no one to care for them. I filled out the form with the John Kinney cemetery, and another more obscure cemetery called the Haney-Ferguson on Star Branch. I mailed it to the Kentucky Attorney General's office as directed. Meantime, grants were awarded to committees that were set up in each Kentucky county. I submitted the John Kinney cemetery because I am the last relative who takes care of it, and at age 67, I hire a helper. The grant was given and we expect to have a new fence, and general vegetation clean up next spring. My niece Joleen Ramey is on the committee. Her phone number is 606 286 6151. (William Ramey) Her mailing address is 6596 Carter Caves Road Olive Hill, Kentucky 41164. However, I would think an email to the Ky Attorney General would produce your needed data. You are wonderful to do all of this work. I worry so much about the old cemeteries. In 1992, the land owner around the John Kinney cemetery bulldozed the cemetery nearly into oblivion. I took the issue to the local newspaper. Essentially the John Kinney cemetery is a babies cemetery. I believe 10 babies are buried there. Also, Stella Kinney a girl who was murdered in 1915, rests there. They are all my relatives. Good luck, Lydia ----- Original Message ----- From: "Cassy Sommers" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Wednesday, January 05, 2005 10:36 AM Subject: [KYCARTER] Cemetery Records > Lydia, > > How would one go about getting the cemetery records do you know? > I never knew this took place. 3. You are doing a wonderful job, thank you. Perhaps you have thought of this, but why not obtain the cemetery records we all sent to the Attorney General in our efforts to save old burial places? I sent in three cemetery inventories in Carter County, which I notice you do not have listed. They may be on tape by now. If so, it would advance your work. The data I sent was not secret information at all, and under the pubic information law, anyone is entitled. 3. My New Years Resolution is to complete the Kentucky Death Certificate CD. I currently have 1500 DC's and would like to add about 500 more before I burn the CD's on the 15th of January so this is the LAST CHANCE to get me your DC's. Check out Tombstone Central for more information on this project. My second New Years Resolution is to get caught up on my two web sites before I have to start working on the third one. I know not all of the cemeteries I post are from Kentucky however, most people who send me the cemeteries have some kind of Kentucky Connection which is how they find the site. 3. After a long break I am again Posting tombstone photos to Tombstone Central. Between burn out and working way to much not to mention the holidays I took a little time off, but I'm now back. I have posted the Bowen Chapel East and Bowen Chapel West cemeteries in Carter County on Tombstone Central. I do know there are some Knox County connections buried there as there are Messer's amongst others there. Also this is last call for anyone wanting to submit DC's for the CD project. 1. Clark, Johnson mid 1800s
    2. I am a descendent of Joshua Clark, I believe from Virginia who moved to Carter County. He had a wife Elizabeth. They are listed on the 1850 census for Carter County. His daughter Amanda married an Ellington Johnson. They lived in Elliot County. Does anybody have information on these individuals? Bill Johnson

    3. Try the Greenup, Lawrence and Lewis County records... if Joseph lived near the boundaries of any of those locations he might have been recorded in an adjacent county. As we know, census taking in those early years was not an exact science. Ron dp wrote: > I need some help. while cleaning up some files, I have this Joseph in > 1860 but can't find him in 1850. 3. Hi Cassy, In the old days the archives did not take photo's and everything had to be in a text format. I stress old days. Now there are pdf, xls and I can go on and on. With the advancement of computers and programs and free readers of the programs things are easier to do. The archives are growing by leaps and bounds. With the new forms that has made it easier to submit files and photos folks are sending in more info than ever. The iron fisted ways of old have fallen to the wayside making life much easier for all. Most of the problem was the lack of computer and html knowledge by the archivist. When a project is ran by volunteers sometimes you get some folks with a good heart and wonderful intentions but with the lack of know how to get it done right so problems arise as in your case. Like any good project you have to go through growing pains. Learn from your mistakes, do damage control and move on. The archives have done that and if you ever hit a road block let me know and I will get it fixed even if it is not my county. As far as Knox County goes I am the Archivist there also and we currently have images for the 1810, 1820, 1830, 1840 and 1860 census. I would love to add in your transcriptions if you ever decide you want to submit them again. The archives do not link to other sites because you lose control of content and you never know how long a site will be up or when they will change it. A good project has to keep control of it's content as I am sure you are aware of. Thanks, Darrell Warner You can see my entire family tree posted at http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~warner/surnames.htm For my current e-mail address go to http://www.rootsweb.com/~archreg/vols/00001.html#0000008 ----- Original Message ----- From: "Cassy Sommers" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Wednesday, November 17, 2004 2:39 AM Subject: [KYCARTER] Census Images > Darrell, > > This is kind of off topic for the Carter list. I would like to find out the links between the various Sexton families in this part of Kentucky (Bath, Morgan, Rowan, Carter, Elliott and Menifee counties.) From the above census listing, it appears that Joseph moved from Virginia to Kentucky sometime between 1847 and 1850, where he married a widowed Elizabeth Knipp in late 1850 or possibly 1851. You might find Elizabeth listed separately in 1850 with her children. Can you identify the parents of any of these other miscellaneous Sextons that I've come across in census and/or marriage records: http://tpettit.best.vwh.net/family/pettit/FG22/FG22_244.htm

    3. Darrell, This is kind of off topic for the Carter list. But at one time a group of us transcribed the the 1910, 1920, and 1930 Knox County censuses and we tried to submit them to genweb but they wouldn't take them. I was asked to completely change the format of the three censuses. I know you run quite a few sites so you can imagine how difficult that would have been. Guess it is just frustrating because the information is out there but hard to get put on the web. I also gave genweb permission to link to my site so they would have the three years of the census and I don't think they ever did that either. I do think it is a wonderful idea to submit them to the major sites so everyone can have them, but sometimes it feels like jumping through hoops to do so. I would even love to submit the cemeteries that I have posted on Tombstone Central, but again there are so many tombstone photos that it would be eons before I could get them transcribed right for the web sites. A rough estimate would put it at over 10,000 tombstone photographs on the site. That all said, I know you run the Genweb for Knox County. If you ever want to take a look at Tombstone Central and put up a link please feel free to do so. Or if you have someone who has the time to make the necessary transcriptions to put them up on Genweb feel free to use anything you find there. 3. Am looking for info regarding Amaza Henderson Lewis. Am trying to find out if she had a daughter by the name of Martha Henderson who married Jasper Tabor of Olive Hill Ky. Jasper was my Great Grandfather. His daughter Ethel was my grandmother. Am not sure Martha was the correct name of my great grandmother. My father has always told us that his grandmother was a Cherokee Indian and her last name was Henderson; however, Mom said it was his great grandmother who was the Henderson and was a Cherokee. Can anyone help me find the facts about this. I'm curious about Amaza because she fits the criteria, because she is an Indian and she was a Henderson. My Uncle Cotton had a picture of my Indian GGrandmother, but she was an old lady by then. Does anyone have any info on Amaza or the Tabors of Olive Hill, KY? Thank you. Sue Messer Bryant

    3. Did you know that you can also submit your death certificates to the USGenWeb Kentucky county archives http://www.rootsweb.com/%7Eusgenweb/ky/kyfiles.html It is a free site for everyone and you don't have to submit anything to use it.. If you just want to submit a text version of the death certificate use this form http://www.genrecords.net/kyfiles/deaths.html If you want to submit a scanned copy of the death certificate use this form http://www.genrecords.net/kyfiles/photos.html You can also submit just about anything you want by using one of the forms located at http://www.genrecords.net/kyfiles/ If everyone submitted their death certificates there you wouldn't have to worry about a CD. Thanks, Darrell Warner
