Just caught your snipped about Mary Jean Green. Are you doing research that might involve the old cemetery at Kilgore? It contains so many graves of people from Rush. Many have well marked stones, but there are many that do not have any markers. I was curious, so I looked, but I didn't find the answer, but maybe some leads: A William Bayes is listed in the 1838 Lawrence Co. Tax List and is then in the 1850 Carter Co. Census. -------------- Original message from "Frankie Perry" <[email protected]>: -------------- Frankie, I was raised in the valley you refer to (Johns Run). My ggrandmother was Jane Bayes - her father was William Bayes & her ggrandfather was John Bayes. All are part of the Bayes family you are searching but the only information I have on the Green family is the name (Mary Green). Most of my information has to do with Adams & Horton families which also lived in the Johns Run Valley. If I can be of any assistance with your search let me know - Gene Adams > I wonder if anyone can help me with these questions on the Bayes and Green > families? > > 1. I'm looking for information on Samuel D. ARTES who married Lizzie GREEN on May 6, 1892 in Lawrence County. Lizzie was GEMIMA ELIZABETH GREEN (Isaiah4, Thomas3, Giles2, William1) b. ca 1872, d/o Isaiah GREEN and Elizabeth Jane DAVIS. The only ARTES/ARTIS families I've been able to find are that of : James Artis (71 in 1910 in Carter Co.) Celia Artis (61 1910 Lawrence Co.), son Ralph (24 in 1910 Lawrence Co, head of HH) William Artis (1900 Census Carter, age 34), Gilbert (28 1910 Carter Co). It is possible that James and Celia are married, since they both state that they are "married" rather than "widowed"; Celia is in the household of Ralph, so that may explain them being apart. However, James states "b. in KY", which does not match Ralph. Wm. and Ralph say father b. PA and mother b. KY, so they may be brothers. Ralph and his wife Ella/Elia are buried in the Green-Pennington Cemetery, near the graves of other Greens and related families. ELIA ARTIS (1886-1949) RALPH ARTIS (1886-19??) According to a cousin, Ralph's son Chester Artis ran a general store in Willard at one time. If you can help, please give me a quick email. Frankie
I wonder if anyone can help me with these questions on the Bayes and Green families? 1. Who was the Mary GREEN who married Leonard BAYES? Leonard and Mary lived at Johns Run, Carter County. I don't have the dates of all their children but they include: Dorothy Bayes, b. Dec. 1, 1918 at Johns Run; d. Nov. 2004, Grayson; m. Lloyd Riggle The following siblings are deceased: brothers, James, Leonard, William and Fleming Bayes; sisters, Ethel Fleming, Edith Bowling, Opal Adams, Flora Duncan and Wanda McCarley. The following are living as of Nov. 2004: two brothers, John Bayes of Willard and Paul Bayes of Oldtown; two sisters, Orbie Shepherd of Piketon[,] Nell Campbell of Waco, Ky; 2. Who was the JAMES "JIM" BAYES who married Dora GREEN? DORA GREEN, the second daughter of Harman GREEN and Mary Elizabeth WEBB, was born March 6, 1883, also in Lawrence County, Kentucky. She apparently married three times. Her first marriage, according to Randal Bowling was to ANDREW JOHNSON (This marriage was not reported by family members and no children are recorded of this marriage). She married JIM (JAMES) BAYS by whom she had two children (dates of birth from 1920 census, WV, Fred Norton, head): Ruby BAYES b. ca 1904 in Kentucky Kenneth BAYES born ca 1907, in Kentucky Following the death of Jim, DORA married ca 1912 to FRED NORTON; they had five children. I found a WV 1920 census listing of Dora and Fred NORTON listing four of their five children. Dora Norton d. Sept. 21, 1933 in Carter County, Kentucky. I appreciate any help you can give me on this.
