Oh no i aint ashamed of my hillbillyism (is that a word) I apologize if my writing abilities stirred up a mess but thats just the way i write. English wasnt my strongest class in school. My roots run very deep in Carter Co with the Burchetts and McCormacks just to name a couple My GGG Grandfather Rev Nelson T Burchett carved his name in the War Monument in the Burchett Plummer Cemetery and i believe he was a well respected Preacher in his time. I had rumors of Jimmy Morgan being in my direct line but am not able to speak freely on the subject due to family issues. I recently got 2 documents with his mane on them and was just wondering if anyone on the list had any info on him or his family. I believe his father to be Green Morgan but am not positive. Will be going back on the road tomorrow if someone can help me i wont be able to reply till i come back home in 2 weeks. Me also and well said. The intent of this board is to help one another - one need not respond if they do not wish to be bothered. Myself, I grew up in these wonderful hills - call it hillbilly or Appalachian American - I am proud of it - and some typing skills are better than others - it is the intent. Pride of family - friendship - that is what Eastern Kentucky is known for - bless you for trying Mr. Hunt. -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Sunday, October 30, 2005 11:27 AM To: [email protected] Subject: [KYCARTER] Re: KYCARTER-D Digest V05 #72 I know I shouldn't but I just have to. Hello Mr. Perry, you are recalling the right Johnny Morgan. He was special. Before he died, I interviewed him on the phone for my article on the CCSRP published in the Kentucky Explorer. Because the article was long, printed in two editions, the editor took it out. I still have Johnny's story, however, and pictures of him with my brothers, and in his school at Plummer, Kentucky. I plan to re-submit his story to the Ky Explorer. Is it possible you have a story you wish to tell, that I might include? Do you recall his having a pet crow that hung onto his shoulder as he worked? Note: This is interesting. As a Summer employee, I worked with a Johnny Morgan at the Carter Caves State Park in 1954. We were both cave guides. This Johnny Morgan lived in the area (Wolfe) and had an artificial leg that he had worn since losing his leg as a child. I would be very surprised if Johnny was more than 8 or 10 years old in 1935. He appeared to be no more than in his mid 20s at the time I worked with him. He could have been younger than that just based on his appearance. He was a very slim, extraordinarily handsome young man and could outwork any of us teenagers when doing our extra duty of picking up trash on the grounds between tours. If it is indeed the same fellow, I am saddened to learn of his passing. I've often wondered what happened to him as I never saw him again after working with him there. --- Victoria Gibson <[email protected]> wrote: > Dear Kathy, I cannot speak for Mrs. Edwards, but one > would think, if you are > asking someone to take their time to do a personal > favor - the request could > be done in a readable manner. > ----- Original Message ----- > From: "Kathy Jones" <[email protected]> > To: <[email protected]> > Sent: Saturday, October 29, 2005 9:06 AM > Subject: [KYCARTER] re: ky-carter-morgan > > > > dear ms. edwards, > > > > why must you speak so condescendingly to this > person? you were able to > read > > and understand the query, that's what matters! > perhaps you didn't realize > > the sharpness of your words. > > > > Respectfully, > > Kathy Jones > > > > > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- > --- > > --------------- > > > > > > Dear Mr. Hunt: I did send info on Johnny Morgan > who grew up in Carter > > County. Ok Lets try this again I dont believe we have spoken before, at least not to my knowledge. Must be someone else. I do not need info on Johnny Morgan but i need info on Jimmy or James Morgan born around 1905 or 1906 Please bear with me on this computer thingy as i am just a hillbilly tryin to fit in this new fangled world Thank You; Bobby Hunt
Dear Kathy, of course you are correct, I did not wish to be unkind. Perhaps you are not aware, I have communicated with this gentleman in the past, delivered extensive research to him at his request, at least twice about Johnny Morgan. I believe he said he lost it. Somehow, it just seems important that we respect standard spelling such as was established circa 1806, and the efforts our teachers expended, and our parents paid for with property taxes to educate us. My father was illiterate, but he worked hard to educate me. Consider for a moment with me please, how I discovered the data he now asks for: I found it by using the alphabet and correctly written and spelled names and words in properly filed documents and files. This is the 21st century, and we use the written word intensely. It is faster and more more efficient for all of us, don't you agree? It matches the speed of our computers. I just naturally thought if he can master a keyboard and has a lively interest in his ancestors, he might benefit from being reminded to use standard spelling, punctuation and capitalization for proper nouns. I apologize to you especially. Sincerely, Lydia Justice Edwards. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Kathy Jones" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Saturday, October 29, 2005 10:06 AM Subject: [KYCARTER] re: ky-carter-morgan > dear ms. edwards, > > why must you speak so condescendingly to this person? you were able to read > and understand the query, that's what matters! perhaps you didn't realize > the sharpness of your words. > > Respectfully, > Kathy Jones > > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- --- > --------------- > > > Dear Mr. Hunt: I did send info on Johnny Morgan who grew up in Carter > County.
