I would like to thank all who responded to my queries. Also I wish you and all readers of this list a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. SILAS FANNIN, b. about 1822 in Kentucky, parents unknown at this point. He married Mary ("Polly") FERGUSON. He had Confederate military service in the Civil War with the 10th Kentucky Cavalry. He performed marriages in Wayne County, 1870 to 1887. After 1887 - unknown. I think it is possible that Silas, Mary, G.W., Mary Bell, and Calista left with Kentucky relatives by train to an area in Wisconsin known as "Little Kentucky." Ive learned that several eastern Kentucky families went there in the late 1800s for jobs in mining and forestry and a new life. Many who responded to my queries have done a search nationwide using programs of Heritage Quest, Ancestry.com, and others. Silas doesnt show up in these searches, so it is easy to assume he died between 1887 and 1900, but that is not necessarily so. In 1900, he would have been only 78--he could have lived that long. It is posted on the Internet that Silas and Mary died in Wyoming County, WV; Silas in 1890 and Mary in 1904. The same source gives their marriage data as 1845 in Cabell County, WV, and also said Rebecca died in 1940 in McDowell County. My research finds no such information in those counties nor statewide. Whoever made these statistics up has considered the facts and made the data fit. Children of Silas and Mary (Ferguson) Fannin: 1. THEODORE FANNIN, b. about 1845 Va. Listed as Theadore in 1850 and 1860 Wayne census. Died 1865 of disease, POW, Camp Chase, Ohio. 2. EASTON S. FANNIN, b. about 1848 in Kentucky; married JULIA HORN. Easton and his descendants appear to be the only descendants of Silas and Polly (Ferguson) Fannin who remained in West Virginia. He died from being hit by a C&O train engine in Huntington, WV. 3. REBECCA FANNIN, born April 1850. [My gt. grandmother, she m. 1st, 1868 REECE CARL WORKMAN, div. 1877; allegedly married 2nd, unknown. RS] 4. JEREMIAH FANNIN, b. 14 September 1855. (listed as Robert A. in 1860 Census, and Jenmiah in 1870 Census.) He must have died young, because he was not listed in the 1880 census. 5. JOHN A. FANNIN, b. 22 July1857. He died 21 January 1923 at Odds, Johnson, Kentucky. 6. THOMAS JEFFERSON FANNIN, b. 2 June 1860; married DOROTHY WEBB. He died in Ashland, Boyd, Kentucky, 8 March 1940. Birth records, information given by Silas, father, record his birth date as 2 June 1860; other records say 22 June. No mention of siblings in his obit. 7. GEORGE WASHINGTON FANNIN, b. about 1862. In 1880 census, but nothing further. 8. MARY BELLE FANNIN, b. about 1864. In 1880 census but nothing further. 9. CALISTIA F. FANNIN, b. 9 July 1866. Birth record given by Silas Fannon, father. In 1880 census, but nothing further. WILLIAM ("WILL") FANNIN, b. about 1868; married MALINDA OSBORNE. He was probably dead by 1900 as Malinda was listed as "widow." If anyone finds mention of Silas, Mary ("Polly"), George Washington, Mary Belle, or Calistia Fannin after 1887, please send info to [email protected] Thank you.
Genealogy LookUp Forum is a web site of volunteers who will do various types of genealogical look ups such as births, census, cemetery, deaths and marriage. We are also looking for new volunteers that have access to records that may help others as well. We do have our own genealogy chat room that is moderated by Hosts who are very helpful on giving others genealogical advice. They will do look ups from several paid online resources for those who do not have access to them. We have a weekly chat called GENTREK with HOSTS that give a genealogical presentation class to the members each week. The topics are different every week. These are mini genealogy classes to help us to become better researchers. Two times a week we hold genealogy trivia games which are very educational and loads of fun. Please visit our site to locate a volunteer in your area or join our genealogy chat for some great help. I am sure you will not be disappointed. _http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~genealogylookup/index.html_ (http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~genealogylookup/index.html)

I am looking for the parents of Oliver P. Holland who married Mary Henderson. I am trying to find out if Oliver and Wright Holland were brothers. In 1850 Oliver and family are in Carter, County Kentucky. In 1860 Oliver and family are in Carter County, Kentucky In 1870 Oliver has moved to Lewis County, Kentucky In 1880 Oliver can be found in Fleming County, Kentucky with the son of Wright Holland living next to him. When Wright Holland's wife applied for a Civil War widows pension there is a statement dated February 6, 1882 from Oliver saying he was at the wedding of Wright and Margaret Holland when they were married in Mason County, Kentucky in July of 1833. There is no doubt that Wright and Oliver knew each other but that doesn't mean they were brothers though. Wright is 5 years older than Oliver. Just trying to take back the line another generation. Thanks, Darrell Warner

Can anyone put me in touch with Gloria Taylor who is descended from Jesse NOLAN/NOLAND and Nancy HUX (1824-1908)? I am descended from Nancy's brother Ishmael HUX. Please give her my email [email protected] Or if there are any others related to Nancy and Ishmael I would love to correspond with you. Thanks Jean Hightower
From late June to July 1, I posted messages on this list and about 20 others. I want to thank all those who gave and offered help. Bottom line though, Im still in search for a clue to Silas Fannins last days, with place and date of death. Several who replied had found the information posted by Deborah Maynard Chatley saying Silas and Polly died in Wyoming county, WV. Ive checked those statements in every way I know and found no verification. I suspect they are not true. Replies to my message have dwindled away, so I will be unsubscribing soon. Im getting too much mail not applicable to my situation. If anyone should find any record pertaining to Silas Fannin after 1887 somewhere, please email me at [email protected] I need to point out again that Silas had a grandson named Silas Fannin who settled in Lincoln county, WV about 1900. Im interested in finding information about the older Silas Fannin, b. about 1822 in KY. Thank you. Ralph H. Sayre [email protected]
Anyone travelling to the Carter County courthouse this summer, please take a quick look in records 1887 - 1895 for my ancestor, Silas FANNIN who was born about 1822 in Kentucky. He performed marriages in Wayne County, WV 1870 - 1887. He and the youngest part of his family disappeared from WV records after 1887. If you find any record of him, please let me know what is written. I am not able to check all the county records myself. You can email me at [email protected]

I found James Banfield indexed as Ranfield in 1870 Greenup County, Kentucky census. He is now married to a Nancy J (possibly Nancy Jane Dinkins??? married to a James Bandfield on August 25, 1867 in Carter County). Living with them is Elizabeth, age 11, Squire, age 8, and Eliza, age 6. Based on Nancy J's age, and the fact that the age difference between Eliza and the next child is 8 years in the 1880 census, I'm guessing that Eliza Harris is in fact Eliza Banfield's mother. Does anyone know if Nancy J in the 1870 census is the same as the Jane in the 1880 census - the ages compute, give or take, but I have no proof. Thanks for any info on this family line - any of them, it doesn't matter. >From: "Jo Dee Biddle" <[email protected]> >Reply-To: [email protected] >To: [email protected] >Subject: [KYCARTER] Eliza Harris b. abt 1840, James Banfield b. abt 1834 >Date: Mon, 12 Jun 2006 18:47:16 -0500 > >Eliza Harris and James Banfield were married March 13, 1856. Eliza Harris and James Banfield were married March 13, 1856. She was 16, he was 21, according to http://www.rootsweb.com/~kycarter/marriage/1856m.htm They are listed in the 1860 Carter County Census with 4 year old daughter Amanda. I cannot find them in the 1870 census but I believe by 1880 Eliza was either deceased or otherwise removed from the family because James was remarried to a Jane and living in Athens County, Ohio. There was a son, Squire b. abt 1862 listed as well (among other children, including Eliza). I believe that James is the father of Elizabeth Banfield b. May 29, 1864 but I cannot connect Eliza Harris as her mother. Also, is Eliza Harris' father Squire Harris, b. abt 1792? If so, this makes my grandparents distant cousins. And it makes sense that James would have a son named Squire - though I know it was often used as a family name. Also, James Banfield and family lived near the family whose son Elizabeth Banfield would eventually be married to before he was killed in a gunfight (Richard Williamson) - this being in Athens County, Ohio. Any info about this line would be appreciated. Elizabeth Banfield is my gg-grandmother. Thanks. Jo Dee Jessie Biddle

I am looking to correspond with Barbara Maddix Porter who posted a message on Ancestry.com in 2001. My email bounced back. Barbara says she lives on land once owned by a HUX which I believe is my ggg-grandfather, Nathan HUX. I believe the land was later owned by his daughter Nancy HUX, NOLAND/NOLAN, PHILIPS. Any help in locating this property would be greatly appreciated. Barbara says there is a cemetery on the property. Would also like to know if this Nancy PHILIPS is the one buried in the Newell Cemetery. Also searching for Nancy's sister-in-law Sarah ROSEL and her family. Sarah married Nancy's brother Ishmael HUX. Thanks for your help. Jean Hightower

I am looking for two individuals, not connected as far as I know #1 Amos F Bayes He was born ca 1854 in KY, married 1878 in Johnson Co., KY to Susan CHANDLER, daughter of Isaac Chandler and Elzira Green. He is not listed with her in 1880, leading me to believe he died. They could have divorced. An Amos F. Bayes is listed in Magoffin Co in 1860 with Sarah Bayes, probably his grandmother. Any leads appreciated. #2 Celia Bayes is believed to have been born in Lawrence County in 1884, as she married in Lawrence County to a Berry PARKER and is listed with him in Lawrence County in 1900. She died between 1903-1906. Again: Any leads appreciated! Thanks! Frankie
