    2. I would very much like a lookup of a Bill Kennedy. He was stationed in the Pratt Air Base at Pratt, Kansas in 1944-45 ? I believe his plane went down on his first flight out in maybe March of 1945. He and friend came to Hutchinson, about 60 miles north east of Pratt to our church one Sunday and he returned several times. I have a picture of him with me and several other of my friends all holding tennis rackets. I have no memory of that day but I have always wondered just who he was and what family he belonged to. Any information leading to who he was would be appreciated. 2. Spike Jones
    3. I went to the link for the interim final rule and tried to follow the links to comment on the rule. They don't take you directly to a form you can comment on you have to do a search to locate the form before you can comment. I used a couple of searches including the words "Reproduction Fees" and what I thought was the rule number [FDMS Docket NARA-07-0002]RIN 3095-AB49 . Neither of these searches found anything so I clicked on Contact Us and all it offered was a comment form on the ease of use for the website. I filed a form and am waiting to hear back from them. This is a typical government site which I found difficult to navigate and not user friendly. I doubt if the people who put this site together sent a beta program to the average person who might use the site to see if it was user friendly. Many of these programmers are very intelligent and take things for granted when they build the sites but fail to realize that many of us are "computer slugs" who are baffled by some things they consider simple. My Genealogy research has been on hold as I am getting ready to retire and have been busy getting one house ready for sale and trying to get our retirement home started. Later this year is when I planned to get active again and getting copies of Civil War pension papers is in my plans. I certainly don't need increased costs as my income is reduced in retirement. Hopefully I will hear back from them and will be able to access the location where I can file a comment. Would it do any good to contact our elected officials on the national level and ask for them to intervene? Thanks for the heads up, Larry Jones ----- Original Message ----- From: "Kenr" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]>; <[email protected]>; <[email protected]>; <[email protected]> Sent: Wednesday, February 28, 2007 1:27 AM Subject: [KYCARTER] NARA hiking rates 338% on Civil War Pension Records andOthers > > NARA hiking rates 338% on Civil War Pension Records and Others > > NARA fee increases 27 Feb 07 > > > [please circulate intact, please note that the Civil War pension as well > as other military pension/bounty records are not microfilmed except > for Revolutionary War, only the indexes were. - David Samuelsen] > > *Warning to all U.S. genealogists! > *Two rules published in the Federal Register on Monday, February > 26, 2007, relate to fees for reproductions of records at the > U.S. National Archives and Records Administration (NARA). > In the case of Civil War pension applications, the proposal is for > a 338% increase! > > Page 8327 contains a proposed rule revising fees for reproductions > to cover NARA's costs for providing copies. 1. [KYCARTER] James McKinney (d-July 1822 - Russell, VA) and Descendants
    2. David Phillips
    3. My wife was a McKinney (from Jasper County, IL). She is descended from James McKinney who died in Russell Conty,VA about July 1822. At that time he was married to an Elizabeth Unknown, but I don't know if she was the mother of our ancestors as I know nothing about her or who she was. My wife's other ancestors are Charles McKinney (born abt 1807 in VA and died aft 1880 in Carter County, KY) and Levina Ring (born abt 1806 in NC, died aft 1880 also in Carter Co.). Their son, William McKinney (born 1/14/1839 inSullivan Co., TN; died 11/4/1931 in Jasper Co., IL) was the first of her line to live in Jasper County, IL where he was a noted minister. William was married to Melinda Cox (born 5/27/1843 in KY; died 1/18/1926 in Jasper County) 1/6/1859 in Carter Co., KY. Their son was Odom McKinney (1864 - 1924) who married Eliza Jane Hankins (1866 - 1909) in 1882 in Jasper Co., IL. Their son Leander McKinney (1899 - 1973) was my wife's granfather. He married Edna Faye Drake (1900 - 1992) 1/19/1917. My wife's father was Leroy Warren McKiney (1920 - 1983) whos wife was Evelyn Tate (1920 - present). I would love to share information with other descendants of James McKinney as well as learn more about who her and his wife were.

    3. Where is "Little Kentucky"? I know some relatives went to Wisconsin in that era. I have never known where to look for them. Also I wish you and all readers of this list a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. SILAS FANNIN, b. about 1822 in Kentucky, parents unknown at this point. He married Mary ("Polly") FERGUSON. He had Confederate military service in the Civil War with the 10th Kentucky Cavalry. He performed marriages in Wayne County, 1870 to 1887. After 1887 - unknown. I think it is possible that Silas, Mary, G.W., Mary Bell, and Calista left with Kentucky relatives by train to an area in Wisconsin known as "Little Kentucky." I've learned that several eastern Kentucky families went there in the late 1800s for jobs in mining and forestry and a new life. Many who responded to my queries have done a search nationwide using programs of Heritage Quest, Ancestry.com, and others. Silas doesn't show up in these searches, so it is easy to assume he died between 1887 and 1900, but that is not necessarily so. In 1900, he would have been only 78--he could have lived that long. It is posted on the Internet that Silas and Mary died in Wyoming County, WV; Silas in 1890 and Mary in 1904. The same source gives their marriage data as 1845 in Cabell County, WV, and also said Rebecca died in 1940 in McDowell County. My research finds no such information in those counties nor statewide. Whoever made these statistics up has considered the facts and made the data fit. Children of Silas and Mary (Ferguson) Fannin: 1. THEODORE FANNIN, b. about 1845 Va. Listed as Theadore in 1850 and 1860 Wayne census. Died 1865 of disease, POW, Camp Chase, Ohio. 2. EASTON S. FANNIN, b. about 1848 in Kentucky; married JULIA HORN. Easton and his descendants appear to be the only descendants of Silas and Polly (Ferguson) Fannin who remained in West Virginia. He died from being hit by a C&O train engine in Huntington, WV. 3. REBECCA FANNIN, born April 1850. [My gt. grandmother, she m. 1st, 1868 REECE CARL WORKMAN, div. 1877; allegedly married 2nd, unknown. RS] 4. JEREMIAH FANNIN, b. 14 September 1855. (listed as Robert A. in 1860 Census, and Jenmiah in 1870 Census.) He must have died young, because he was not listed in the 1880 census. 5. JOHN A. FANNIN, b. 22 July1857. He died 21 January 1923 at Odds, Johnson, Kentucky. 6. THOMAS JEFFERSON FANNIN, b. 2 June 1860; married DOROTHY WEBB. He died in Ashland, Boyd, Kentucky, 8 March 1940. Birth records, information given by Silas, father, record his birth date as 2 June 1860; other records say 22 June. No mention of siblings in his obit. 7. GEORGE WASHINGTON FANNIN, b. about 1862. In 1880 census, but nothing further. 8. MARY BELLE FANNIN, b. about 1864. In 1880 census but nothing further. 9. CALISTIA F. FANNIN, b. 9 July 1866. Birth record given by Silas Fannon, father. In 1880 census, but nothing further. WILLIAM ("WILL") FANNIN, b. about 1868; married MALINDA OSBORNE. He was probably dead by 1900 as Malinda was listed as "widow." If anyone finds mention of Silas, Mary ("Polly"), George Washington, Mary Belle, or Calistia Fannin after 1887, please send info to [email protected] Thank you. ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to [email protected] with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message
