Any suggestions on where I can find a map for Carter County that has cemeteries listed? Also, nice place to say there.......I am coming for a few days to go "hunting"....Any suggestions on where to look for relatives that lived there in 1800s? Thanks, Judy
I am planning a trip to Carter County Cemeteries this week. Can anyone tell me where I may find a list (and maps) or a directory of cemeteries? If none are available, Any suggestions would be appreciated....One area I would like to check out is around Smith Creek and/or areas near Carter / Lewis County line..If anyone knows of cemetery in that area, I would appreciate hearing about it. Is there a community called Ruggles in Carter County? I am researching MCCLEESE and COOPER families. Thanks in advance for help.

- FYI - I have posted an index to Kentucky Wills and Estates for the HAM surname prior to 1900 (for individuals that I have information on). Several of these lines claim ancestors in Virginia, some from South Carolina and Pennsylvania. The Carter County Photo Album now has a section for Un-Identified People. I've also separated the People, Places/Things and Un-Identified People pages into their own pages. Let me know if you see anything amiss. Kindest regards, Brian Litteral Carter County ACC
Looking for information on these two families living next door to each other in 1880. Believe this would be the area of Star Furnace. George Washington and family is found through 1920 while I only find Cinthia again in 1910. Would like to find marriages and parents for these two men. Hi, everyone! I am looking for more information on Mary (called Polly) Mullins, who married Ruben Bare (different spellings) in 1850 in Carter County. I have their marriage record, and I DO NOT need Bare information. I would just like to know more about Mary Mullins. Who were her parents? When and where was she born? I have the names of her children. Thanks to anyone who can help! Elaine Williams williael@oplin.lib.oh.us
Okay folks, I'm gonna be incommunicado for a week. I'm loading the family up & heading to Orlando to contibute my fair share to the evil Disney empire....LOL. Anyway, my notebook is fried, so I probably won't have the means (or the inclination to find any...vbg) to check on things until next Saturday afternoon. I have a BUNCH of updates to add, but I'm afraid y'all will have to wait until next week for them. Later, John Carter County KYGenWeb coordinator http://www.rootsweb.com/~kycarter/
I will be in Carter County for a weekday or two this month. Where are the most historical and genealogical records kept that I can get access to? It seems to me that the historical society for Carter County is in Ashland, KY. Is that correct? Tina Borrus borrus@msn.com
Hello, I'm looking for information on Evaline Griffin born 1821 married E.H. Sargeant about 1845 in Carter County. Any information on either family would be appreciated.
Hello, I am new to these lists, so I figured I would start out by posting a name and see what happens. I am know that in some areas there is a lot of history with this family, but right now I am at a standstill. I am looking for the parents of John Burton Chasteen/Chastain, Sr., b. 1822 in Lincoln Co.. TN. He married Sarah White, b. 1826, and after having 2 children they moved to MO. I have everything from my husband back to John. From there, I am at a total loss. Any leads out there? Thank you- Audri Badman-Chasteen
Has anyone out there ever heard of the E. L. Hicks Cemetery? Believe it could be in Halderman, Rowan Co., KY. Your help appreciated. Elaine
I'm back. My new email address is kycarter@columbus.rr.com. I will gradually be changing the email address pointers on all the pages...(bear with me). I hope that this change will work out for the overall betterment of the site. Please change your address books to reflect this new address. Thanks, John Rucker Carter County KYGenWeb coordinator http://www.rootsweb.com/~kycarter/
Ok, folks....I gots bad news and I gots good news. I will be losing my Internet access at any time (I hope this message makes it out). It seems that my ISP & I can't agree on service terms. That's the bad news. Now for the good news. As of noon Thursday, I will be back with a vengeance. I am getting Roadrunner cable modem access (about 100X faster than my current setup...woohoo). There may be some very positive aspects to this change for you guys (more about that after I get back up & running). Anyways, mail to me will probably start bouncing momentarily, so just hang loose & I'll get my new address posted as soon as I get it. Thanks for your patience, John Rucker KYGenWeb Carter Co coordinator
This message was posted to the Kentucky DAR members and I am passing to those who may be interested. "At 1:15 PM May 30 KSDAR is placing a floral wreath at the Vietnam Memorial on Coffee Tree Road, off East-West Connector (near KY State Archives). Then: At 2:00 PM there will be a Grave Marking for Gen. Scott at the Frankfort Cemetery - State Lot 18, Section M. There will be delegates from Maryland, Delaware, Ohio, Indiana and Kentucky which include descendants, co-sponsoring societies and NSDAR Historian General. After the marking there will be a George Washington Bicentennial Tribute to Rev. John Gano - DAR Lot 22, Section N (Same cemetery). You can check out Daniel Boone's memorial while you are here also, and get an overview of Frankfort in the distance. THEN, DAR members make your way to: the Vest-Lindsay House 401 Wapping Street before 4:00 for refreshments Look around Frankfort, and since I can't send you a map why not check out some of the State's helpful hints at: http://www.state.ky.us/agencies/khs/index.html KY Historical Society http://www.state.ky.us/agencies/khs/visiting.htm Links to maps of the area http://www.kdla.state.ky.us/ State Archives ". I am trying to trace my ggrandparents, Robert and Elizabeth Bradshaw and any children. My grandfather, Orville Bradshaw was born 24Mar1878 in Grayson, Kentucky according to the Pryor Funeral Records. I searched the 1880 Census and could not find a listing. Any ideas, suggestion, or further places to look? Any help would be appreciated.
Hello everyone, Is there anyone on the list descended from A.C. Bowling, who had a general store in Hitchins, KY? I found a receipt from that store, dated March 15, 1915, in my great-grandmother's (Hattie Stewart Duvall) sewing machine. If there are any Bowling descendants who would like it as a keepsake, I'll be happy to put it in the mail to you. _______________________________________________________________ Get Free Email and Do More On The Web.
