    3. A woman came out of her house and saw 3 old men with long white beards sitting in her front yard. She did not recognize them. She said "I don't think I know you, but you must be hungry. Please come in and have something to eat." "Is the man of the house home?", they asked. "No", she said. "He's out." "Then we cannot come in", they replied. In the evening when her husband came home, she told him what had happened. "Go tell them I am home and invite them in!" The woman went out and invited the men in. "We do not go into a House together," they replied. "Why is that?" she wanted to know. One of the old men explained: "His name is Wealth," he said pointing to one of his friends, and said pointing to another one, "He is Success, and I am Love." Then he added, "Now go in and discuss with your husband which one of us you want in your home." The woman went in and told her husband what was said. Her husband was overjoyed. "How nice!!", he said. "Since that is the case, let us invite Wealth. Let him come and fill our home with wealth!" His wife disagreed. "My dear, why don't we invite Success?" Their daughter-in-law was listening from the other corner of the house. She jumped in with her own suggestion: "Would it not be better to invite Love? Our home will then be filled with love!" "Let us heed our daughter-in-law's advice," said the husband to his wife. "Go out and invite Love to be our guest." The woman went out and asked the 3 old men, "Which one of you is Love? Please come in and be our guest." Love got up and started walking toward the house. The other 2 also got up and followed him. Surprised, the lady asked Wealth and Success: "I only invited Love, Why are you coming in?" The old men replied together: "If you had invited Wealth or Success, the other two of us would've stayed out, but since you invited Love, wherever He goes, we go with him. Wherever there is Love, there is also Wealth and Success!!!!! This came across my email today and I thought it good food for thought. How would we react is this was an actual event and happened to us. I want to put in this line. From time to time these type emails come to me from friends, relatives or acquaintances. If any of you receiving these type of emails from me would rather I not send them to you please send me a message back and I will make a list of those who do and a list of the rather nots and try to make sure I do not send any unwanted mail. 3. The vital stats on the UK url are the state vitals 1911-1995. Legislation was passed for that time frame. Earlier vital record legislation was passed from 1855 through 1902 but was maintained on a county level - not well received and the tax people collected the information rather poorly - because the law kept changing there are many years that were skipped. What remained for each is on KYA [Archives] microfilm. It is available at the Boyd County library for the state. 2. Hello List, to help Judy in her posting and to supplement Teresa's posting, I just wanted to let them know, that hidden or lost or misplaced death certificates from counties such as Elliott, Carter, Morgan, have been found in 1997 and continuing in 1999. These Certificates had never been published, but have now been found and available. One of those missing certificates was on Solomon Lewis born in 1818 on old Clay County lands and was moved by his parents to Morgan County lands which later became Elliott County. Solomon's death certificate had been missing from the County Seat Sandy Hook Courthouse because of fire. It was located in the old Archives in Frankfort. Others have been found similar status, so try try again in Frankfort for missing death certificates. JOHN in CA

    2. James Carver
    3. Hi folks, I'm seeking info on the early SNYDER / SNIDER families of Carter Co., KY. between 1840 - 1900. Searching for info on the family descendants of: James Snider & Mary Cooley (m.: 13 Mar 1841 Lewis Co.Ky) children: Barbara; Arnold; Mary; Lucinda; Roland;Esther; Joshua; John; & Lewis. and: Arnold Snyder 1846-1924 & Louisa England (m.7 Sept 1864 - Greenup Co., KY) children: Nancy "Anne"; George; Sarah; Charity; Louisa; Mary Alice; James; & Benjamin. Both of these family units lived near the Lewis & CARter Co,KY borderline near Carter CIty, KY. Records should be in located in both counties. Any early data on the Snyder / Snider family deeply appreciated. Thanks... Jim James F. Carver 610 Gay Street, Box 214 Portsmouth, Ohio 45662-0214 e-mail: heritage@zoomnet.net

    1. [KYCARTER] 1860 Carter County Census Lookup - SHUFF
    2. Lorna
    3. Hello! I was wondering if anyone might have a copy of the 1860 Carter County Census? I would appreciate a lookup for a SOLOMON SHUFF and his wife Catherine/Kathryne. Solomon would have been abt. 88 yrs. old and his wife would have been considerably younger. Possibly late 30s early 40's. I found them in the 1870 Greenup Co. Census, but have been unsuccessful in locating this family in the 1860 Census. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you. 1. [KYCARTER] DO NOT EVER DIAL AREA CODE 809
    2. Sherman R. Manis
    3. Dear Friends, This came across my email today and I don't want to just pass anything along that you don't ask for, but if this could save you some money it might be helpful. If you don't want it just delete it. Sherman - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- SCAM: Don't Respond To Emails, Phone Calls, Or Pages Which Tell You To Call An "809" Phone Number This is a very important issue of Internet ScamBusters! because it alerts you to a scam that is: spreading extremely quickly, can easily cost you $100 or more, and is difficult to avoid unless you are aware of it. We'd like to thank Paul Bruemmer and Brian Stains for bringing this scam to our attention. This scam has also been identified by the National Fraud Information Center and is costing victims a lot of money. There are lots of different permutations of this scam, but here is how it works: Permutation #1: Internet Based Phone Scam Via Email. You receive an email, typically with a subject line of "ALERT" or "Unpaid Account." The message, which is being spammed across the net, says: I am writing to give you a final 24hrs to settle your outstanding account. If I have not received the settlement in full, I will commence legal proceedings without further delay. If you would to discuss this matter to avoid court action, call Mike Murray, Global Communications at (809) 496-2700. Permutation #2: Phone Or Pager Scam. You receive a message on your answering machine or your pager which asks you to call a number beginning with area code 809. The reason to you're asked to call varies: it can be to receive information about a family member who has been ill, to tell you someone has been arrested, dead or to let you know you have won a wonderful prize, etc. In each case, you're told to call the 809 number right away. Since there are so many new area codes these days, people unknowingly return these calls. If you call from the US, you will apparently be charged $25 per-minute! Sometimes the person who answers the phone will speak broken English and pretend not to understand you. Other times, you'll just get a long recorded message. The point is, they will try to keep you on the phone as long as possible to increase the charges. Unfortunately, when you get your phone bill, you'll often be charged more than $100! Here's why it works: The 809 area code is located in the British Virgin Islands (the Bahamas). The 809 area code can be used as a "pay-per-call" number, similar to 900 numbers in the US. Since 809 is not in the US, it is not covered by U.S. regulations of 900 numbers, which require that you be notified and warned of charges and rates involved when you call a "pay-per-call" number. There is also no requirement that the company provide a time period during which you may terminate the call without being charged. Further, whereas many US phones have 900 number blocking (to avoid these kinds of charges), 900 number blocking will not prevent calls to the 809 area code. We recommend that no matter how you get the message, if you are asked to call a number with an 809 area code that you don't recognize, investigate further and/or disregard the message. Be very wary of emails or calls asking you to call an 809 area code number. It's important to prevent becoming a victim of this scam, since trying to fight the charges afterwards can become a real nightmare. That's because you did actually make the call. If you complain, both your local phone company and your long distance carrier will not want to get involved and will most likely tell you that they are simply providing the billing for the foreign company. You'll end up dealing with a foreign company that argues they have done nothing wrong. Please forward this entire issue of Internet ScamBusters! to your friends, family and colleagues to help them become aware of this scam so they don't get ripped off. -- Jesus is Lord of our lives Sherman and Rodana Manis visit our web sites: http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Acres/4348 http://www.members.tripod.com/srmanis http://www.freeyellow.com/members5/teddy-bear-ent In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. 3. I just bought a splendid map of Kentucky. It shows a lot of detailed geographic information (creeks, hollows, peaks, etc). So, I am offering to do lookups of those pesky locales that never seem to show up on regular maps. If you will send me the name, location or description of the place that you are looking for I will tell you whatever I find. It doesn't show featues that are no longer there (like towns that don't exist anymore). But I have been impressed with its details. Regards, Brian P.S.
