Can some kind person give me a lookup on the surname PORTER in the 1860 and 1870 Carter County census? Specifically I'm looking for George Porter with wife Rosamond (may appear as Rosa or Rosie), but hope to find several of his adult children as well. If there is a long list of Porters, I can give you a better listing of who I'm looking for. Thanks in advance for any help! I have only researched as far back as William and Margaret Rice, but LDS records have this family back pretty far. I'm not sure of the accuracy beyond William Rice, born 1754, but if you go to http://www.familysearch.org and enter Charles Rice and Mary Holman you can travel back to the mid 1600's on the Rice line to a Thomas Rice. I would be interested in any information you have on the family of William Rice and Margaret ?, especially information on her maiden name. Thank you! I am looking for James B. SARTAIN/SARTIN who I have found in Greenup, Scioto, Mason and Bracken Counties of KY and OH. In Greenup he lived near a Claiburn SARTIN. Louisa SARTAIN married John Valentine MORGAN and lived in Adams Cnty, OH most of her life and some in Lewis and Mason Cnty, KY. Can anyone help me with the parents of James B. SARTAIN and John Valentine MORGAN? Thanks, Derald Morgan
Portions of John Valentine MORGAN's family have been found in the area of this list. I have been unable to identify his father who I believe is John MORGAN and mother Mary. John V. was born in 1845 in VA or KY according to all the info I have found. It has been suggested that one of the following could be true: 1. Mary was a Valentine 2. John MORGAN's mother was a Valentine 3. John Valentine MORGAN's grandfather was Valentine MORGAN 4. John lived near a Valentine family and his mother liked the name Can anyone give me clues about MORGAN and VALENTINE relationships, names or proximity to one another that would give me cause to search further in VA, KY, OH or even as suggested in one case NC. Thanks, Derald Morgan

Sounds like a good idea to me. --------- The year 2000 is a Census Year. Most of the census will be taken by mail. After you have filled out your census form why not make a copy of it and file with your important (genealogy) papers. Then your family will not have to wait 70 years to learn about you.

Hi, Just want to thank everyone who responded to my Query about old County Lines. It was appreciated. Ed Cooper Searching for the elusive parents of John Wesley Cooper
I have seen a book at the SE National Archives that shows what counties existed in each state for each census. You can also check into a lot of the census index books. Many of these will show the state and the counties for that census year. I have an AniMap program that will also show the counties for any given year. I haven't tried to save a copy of any map yet, but it might be possible. There are historical maps of KY on the web. Go to www.state.ky.us, then click on tourism, then maps, then "county map at time of statehood". What a surprise that was! I'll bet you can pick something up from the KY Historical Society site. Check it out. Nancy Brinly
