Hello Carter County list, I have a couple of things I would like information on. I have a Joseph Smith that was married to Arnilda Bloomfield, of which I believe both are burried in the Morgon Cemetery. I think I know where this cemetery is located but I'm not positive. Would someone give me directions from the South Shore area as to the best way to find it? And also I think they might be burried in unmarked graves. Is there anyone that would have any information, or records on where people would be burried in this cemetery? Thanks in advance for your help! Wm. W. Turner http://www.zoomnet.net/~wwturner/
IF there is a cemetery somewhere out there that you just can't get to or a Courthouse document you really need, you might have some luck at the following site: http://raogk.rootsweb.com/ "Thanks for sharing" to those of you that have added some of your obits to the Carter County site. There are still plenty more of you out there with stack of clippings that could be shared. Hint, Hint. If you would like to share just go to the following site and type in your ancestors obits. The form is located at the bottom of the page and is very easy to use. Additional info is provided if you have questions. http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ky/CarterObits Happy Hunting God Bless! Sherry

Just wanted to say hey & thank everyone for all their recent submissions. I finally have my other projects tucked away & am preparing to head to Grayson for a weekend of R & R (plus UK's recruiting FINALLY seems to be winding down...LOL). I have already added a bunch of new stuff to the site over the last week and a half or so & I have a LOT of other stuff to add once I get back. I also hope to be able to track down a cemetery or two while I'm down that way. So keep those submissions rolling in - you should see them popping up soon. Thanks again to everyone for their continued support, John

I am very interested in this. One of my grandfathers - Ambrose CLEMENS - had a sister by the name of Sarah. She married a man named Henry EVANS. She also joined the Mormon Church in 1912 - the same year my dad was born. He swears up and down that grandpa Ambrose NEVER had a sister named Sarah. I showed him that she did exist. My belief is that she may have been ostracized after joining a newfangled religion and was just written off. The family is from Carter Co., but Sarah did end up in southern OH. In 1968, when David Littleton taught English at Prichard High School, he and his class searched through various back issues of the Carter County newspaper for special articles and tidbits. David's wife, Mary Smith Littleton, has graciously volunteered to scan some of the articles copied as a part of that project and submit them for inclusion on the Carter County web page. The local paper has operated under many names and editors, but each issue can give us a special look at life in Carter County. Thank you Mary, David and each member of that 1968 English class. The Herald, Grayson, Kentucky, February 7, 1902. Carter County Historical Edition ANGLIN After seeing your request for county correspondents to your paper, and as this is in my use-to-be line of business, I will offer you a few items for publication about this enterprising little village. The business center is made up by the C & 0, and E-K depot with J. W. McMahon as operator and freight agent, the Anglin post office kept by E. L. Powell, postmaster and groceryman, and J G. Mobley dealer in general merchandise and hotel keeping. The health of the neighborhood is generally good. We have been having some very disagreeable weather for the past week, consisting of snow, rain, and a very heavy sleet Henry Parsons returned from Cincinnati a few days ago, where he -went to market eight hogsheads of fine Burley tobacco. He reports the market in fairly good condition. R. T. Rucker, of Fairfield, Ohio, returned home last week from this place where he had been for some time on business. East Kentucky Journal September 16, 1920 Andrew Kiser and Miss Minnie Kozee were married September 5th by Rev. Arthur Jarvis at his residence in this city. After the ceremony the young couple left for Dayton, Ohio, to reside, the groom being employed there.

I was just looking at all the new improvements and additions John has added to the Carter Co. web page, when I noticed a posting by Debbie concerning the Greenup Co. Library and thought I'd pass her info to everybody. She's right, the Greenup Co. Library located on Main Street in Greenup, about a block from the Courthouse and next door to the Funeral Home, is an excellent place to do research for Carter Co. ancestors. In fact, when I was there about two weeks ago, they had added a computer to the genealogy room and have done some other updates. Their biggest drawback is that they are only open late on Wednesday evening, and they close early on Saturday afternoon. They do have many volumes that can't be found in the Ashland Library. Especially, they have transcripts of many area county census records. If you get the chance, do stop by and browse their genealogy room. If you are a registered voter in Carter Co., I do hope that you'll make sure to sign a petition for a County Library in Carter Co. The petitions are being circulated now and you can always stop by the Adult Learning Center in Grayson to sign one. If you can't find a petition to sign, contact me and I'll see that you get the opportunity to sign one. A Carter Co. Library could mean an up-to- date genealogy research department in our own county and maybe even a home for the Carter County Historical Society and their collection. Thanks Sherry
Dear Carter Co. List members, I can not get down to KY to research and must rely on other methods. I would very much like to verify information I have for My great grandmother: ALLIE Mae (nee: PENNINGTON) SMITH, BROUGHTON b. 20 May bet. 1882-1887 (I think in Johnson Co. but not sure) d. abt. 12 Feb. 1954 (day might be off a little) burial Mt. Savage Church Cemetery. I would like to verify her date of death. I would like to get a copy of her obituary (with name of name of newspaper, page# and date published). I would very much like to find proof of her place of burial and would like to know if she has a headstone (and inscription) if so, a picture would be great! I would like an address/phone# for MT. Savage Church Cemetery, so that I could contact them to inquire about my great-grandmother's burial. If you think you could check on any of these for me, I would sure like to hear from you! Thank-you for taking the time to read my plea. Peggy
