I have found the family in 1900, Carroll County, KY. The last name has been transcribed by ancestry as Lagarte, and looks, to me, like LaFante on the actual census. It shows Nick as the head of family, born Aug 1857, Mrs N born Jun 1853; Louise born Jul 1884; Flora; born Mar 1886; John born Dec 1888; Caroline born May 1889; and Willie born Aug 1891. I have found there are many age errors on the censuses, so I don't worry about the dates. Also, many people go by the middle name so I believe Louise is your grandmother. The census shows Nick and his wife were married 17 years and had 5 children, all living. It would appear that Phillip is not a son of this wife. It is possible he died as an infant and wasn't included in the total of children. Good luck with your research. He died May 6 1904 and is buried in St. John's Cemetery along with his wife Catherine Mueller- she was born June 20 1849 in Dover Ky and died Dec 4 1936 in Norwood Ohio. I have found 7 children and 6 I have birth and death dates and their spouses but one eludes me - Phillipum (Phillip) Lafontaine. I show a birth of Sept 15 1891 but cannot find anything else. Phillips siblings are Clara Margaretha 1883 - 1884; Mary (Maria) Louise 1884 - 1996 (my grandmother) ; Julia Florian (Flora) 1886 -1971; John August 1887 - 1965; Caroline M 1889 - 1973; William Nicholas 1891-1972 If anyone has information on this family and have dates for Phillip, I would appreciate the information.
