Hi LaVerne, I have a difficult quest. Prison records say my husband's grandfather was born about 1885 in Kentucky. In 1908 he was convicted of forgery in Umatilla County, Oregon as Edward Barrett. He was in and out of prison, mostly in until 1914. He married Rachel Brewer in 1915 as Charles Howard, fathered a son, and took off by 1916. He took his father-in-law's horse, sold it as his own, was caught and convicted of forgery in 1916. He was in Oregon State Penitentiary in 1920. He was in and out of prison until 1928 when I can no longer track him for sure. I have a likely candidate in 1930 in California. He used four first names: Charles, Edward, James and Robert. He used four last names: Howard, Barrett, Harris and Williams. At least these are the ones I found. The family story was that he was an alcoholic and went back to Carrollton. So, I'm looking for a boy born in Kentucky around 1885. =) Most censuses have his parents born in Indiana. One intake form said he had siblings. He started smoking and drinking at age 10. He went to church until he left home. He drove wagons. That's all I know about him. I'm looking for any records that I could look in to find him. I don't live near Kentucky so I can't go searching for any local records. But if anyone has any ideas I'd love to hear them! Thanks for asking!
