Yes, I still have some genealogy research to do in Carroll County. My great grandfather, James McDonald, and my great grandmother, Sarah (Herron) McDonald, are first recorded in the county in the 1880 census. At that time they had had 9 of their 11 children. I have been told they were married in 1865, but I don't know where. The federal veteran pension records show that James fought in the Civil War in the 40th Kentucky Mounted Infantry, so he was probably in Kentucky that whole time, but I don't know where. Plus, he fought in the Mexican War in 1846-1848 - maybe he was in Kentucky then also. I don't know, but he was born in Ireland in 1814. Any leads would be appreciated, as would any photos of the 40th Kentucky Mounted Infantry.
