    3. The Carrollton newspapers were largely wiped out by the '37 flood. I think it was losses such as these that helped inspire the subsequent microfilming. Losses in Carrollton depended on which book of old papers were above and below the water line. Some years ago a fellow named Allan Watts indexed vital data out of some surviving newspapers. I have a book which indexes 1884. 1885, 1889, 1890, 1894, 1895, and 1898. He also indexed a short lived GHENT TIMES from 1899-1901. Watts did not have access to two years that have only been microfilmed recently, which I believe were 1883 and 1878. The only Mary Baker that I see in Ghent Cemetery died in 1890, and she is not mentioned in these indexes. CLEVELAND GEORGE ANN 1848 1883 4 10 1 BAKER MARY 1824 1890 4 10 3 BRUCE MARY 1852 1903 4 10 5 STAFFORD MATTIE 4 10 6 STAFFORD JASPER 4 10 7 MASTERSON PEARL 1868 1902 4 10 13 ELLIS JAMES 1818 1894 4 10 14 ELLIS JULIA 1819 1882 4 10 15 ELLIS LILY 1885 1887 4 10 16 ELLIS H.B. 1840 1867 4 10 17 The Warsaw Independent in Warsaw, Gallatin County, Kentucky picked up news items from Carroll County, including some obituaries, so you could look there. The closer the decedent was to Gallatin County, the better chance you have of finding a mention. Ghent is close to the Gallatin County line. Across the river from Ghent is Vevay, and they have old newspapers online here: http://www.switzerland.k12.in.us/hs_vevaynewspapers.php And you might even find a mention down the river in newspapers from Madison, Indiana. The Madison newspaper covers Carroll County news even to the present day.
