    3. I talked to Kathryn Salyers, Carroll County's history expert, and she says that the old Poor House and the County Infirmary were the same thing. No "County Infirmary" at the foot of Gap Hill. Maybe I saw a reference to the Infirmary "at Gap Hill" or maybe I didn't, but either way it was referring to the Poor House. There is a monument on the site of the Poor House that names some of the people who are supposed to be buried there. I can recall the house, I think it was torn down about 15-20 years ago. Bill Davis The current County Park has a monument marking the site of the old Poor House, including names of a few that are supposed to be buried there. The monument is at 38.669694 -85.131148 according to Google Earth. "The County Poor House" appears there on the 1883 map. I seem to recall there was something called the County Infirmary nearby, at the foot of Gap Hill, where the old city cemetery is. The cemetery is at 38.674993 -85.146651. Indigents were buried there and I assume unclaimed deaths from the infirmary would be in the city cemetery as well. 3. Bill, I am still seeking Carroll County a newspaper from the early 1890s that has the obit for my great3grandmother, Mary Ellen Hicks Baker who is buried in the Ghent Cemetery. The local library told me that theirs were ruined in the flood of '37. Would any other archive have copies or microfilm? Would any nearby county, not on the river, have them? BTW, this year, we have traced her Hicks ancestry back to the Prestons and Breckenridge who founded Louisville, to 3 founders of Jamestowne Colony, and to Christopher Branch in Colonial VA., a member of the VA. legislature, who is descended from ten signers of the Magna Charta! WOW! Glad to see that you are still into Carroll Co. genealogy. E. Betty Kaspar
