This story from today's Herald-Leader contains some good news! Not sure when this might come about but for all us researchers, it can't happen too soon <g> http://www.kentucky.com/mld/kentucky/news/local/11421904.htm Suzanne
Hi everyone, I am looking for a Charles Howard or Edward Barrett born supposedly in Kentucky in 1885. This is my husband's grandfather. Here is what I know. He was in and out of prisons in Washington, Oregon and California from 1908 to 1928. He also used 6 names that I know of. In 1908 he was convicted of forgery in Pendleton Oregon, and was sent to Oregon State Penitentiary as Edward Barrett. When he married my husband's grandmother in Oregon in 1915 he was Charles Howard. They were divorced in 1916. He had stolen her father's horse, sold it as his own and taken off. His prison records are consistent, he was born in Kentucky in 1885. Family lore says he went back to Carrollton. So somehow I have to find a family with a Charles or Edward born in Kentucky 1885, that went to Oregon. So far no luck. I'd like to know about Carroll county in 1885. Were people moving in or out of the area? How did most people earn a living? Was anything interesting happening around this time in Carroll county? And of course if you have a Charles or Edward, Howards or Barretts in your line I'd love to talk with you. Thank you! Ronda Howard
