Can anyone on the list give me driving directions from Carrollton to Barrett Cemetery off Hwy. 36 at Easterday? Thanks, Suzanne
I called Kathryn Salyers in Carrollton and she says the cemetery is obliterated, so far as she knows. She said the old Barrett house was a fine house that stood in a farm northwest of the junction of Four Mile Road and Rt. 36. It is probably the house that appears as the Frank Bond residence on the 1883 map. She says the Barretts, Magruders, and Bonds were all related. She says the house was torn down by a Mr. Cook of the Kentuckiana Tobacco Warehouse and replaced with a modest two-story frame house, and that the walnut stair from the old house was used in the smaller house that replaced it. Cook's daughter married a man named Clinkscale and they were living in the house when Kathryn visited it and took the names out of the cemetery. They had a daughter who had a pony, and they were using the inclosure of the cemetery to keep the horse in. She said the cemetery was a short distance from the front (or south side) of the Clinkscale house that was there when she visited it, which was probably in the 60's or 70's. She says the house she visited has also been torn down, and that a new development is just going into that corner. There is at least one new house that has been built there, but it is not in the same location as the old one. Bill Davis -- No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG Anti-Virus. Just a followup on the Barrett Cemetery. I posted before that it was probably obliterated. I took Kathryn Salyers out to the farm, which is now being developed as the Butler Woods subdivision, we took information from one of the real estate signs and sent it to Robert Brock, who is interested in the cemetery. He has made some calls and has been told that the cemetery has not been destroyed, at least not completely, and that it is located on lot 10 of this map: http://www.countrytyme.com/kentucky/inventory/butler.html Bill Davis -- No virus found in this outgoing message.
