I have been amazed to discover that the records of Sharon Baptist Church, a Carroll County church that has been defunct for about 140 years, have turned up in a Southern Baptist Archive in Nashville, Tennessee. This church was located on Sharon Road in what is now Carroll County, and was made up largely of members who had transferred from the Ghent Baptist Church. It was part of Gallatin County when the church was first formed. These records should through a little light on a controversy involving Rev. John Scott, who was also prominent in Owen County. It had something to do with the status of a previous marriage of Scott's second wife, Mary Bailey Whitehead Waller, and whether she was properly divorced from her former husband, Samuel Waller.
