In late July, the National Archives announced they were planning to cut back the hours of the Washington DC area facilities of the archives. This would eliminate all evening and Saturday hours and greatly harm the ability of the average genealogist to access the records. For full details, see http://www.archives.gov/press/press-releases/2006/nr06-125.html While the Archivist of the United States was at the FGS conference he reported that they had received very little feedback from the country's genealogists asking for reconsideration. He was also presented with a request from the chair of the FGS Records Preservation Committee to consider some alternatives and a petition was started to allow genealogists to express their disagreement with the changes and to endorse alternatives that will allow the evening and Saturday hours to continue. You can see more details about that in Dick Eastman's weekly newsletter at: http://blog.eogn.com/eastmans_online_genealogy/2006/09/quick_please_jo.html The petition can be signed at: http://www.petitiononline.com/FGS2006 The deadline for receiving comments on the proposed changes by the archives is September 9, so there isn't much time. And if they succeed in reducing the Washington hours, the regional archives will probably follow. Suzanne Shephard
Thank you for writing to me and I promise I will let you know as soon as I can where my new home on the internet will be, where you will find all of the records that I previously had posted on these KYGenWeb sites and I will make available to you all records within my own files and more as I can. Anyone wishing to contribute to the new site, please feel free to contact me at anytime and I will gladly post those things for you immediately. Thanks again. Teresa Skaggs Genealogist and Researcher
I am no longer the ACC for the above counties, I was removed without any notice or warning or reason other than, because the CC said so. I was in the process of adding a contributors obituary records to the site and could not complete the task because the password necessary had been changed and that is how I found out that she decided to remove me. The only explanation that I was given was that she did not need the records that I was contributing (Obituaries), however, I had much other information on these sites including: Revolutionary War Pension Records 2000-2002 Death Index Records Family Group Sheets Family Reports News Articles Many Many Photographs As well as over 3,500 Obituaries that I have personally transcribed for these sites. The good news is, I will let you all know where I will be posting all of my new records shortly at a new URL.............. If anyone needs any help or has any questions, please feel free to email me. As always, I am available for lookups, I don't live in Kentucky, but I have access to many sources. Sincerely, Teresa Skaggs

On November 23, 2005 there was a devastating fire in Carrollton, Albert & Kathleen (Craigmyle) Wallace lost everything that they had, including all of their precious photographs. They had 6 generations of their families. I was wondering if anyone might be willing to make copies and send them to them so that they could atleast have copies of their parents and grandparents. If anyone does have copies please contact me and I will give you their contact information, they are not on the internet and would truly love to be able to replace any of thse photo's that anyone would be willing to share with them, they would also be willing to pay for such copies. Albert served in the CCC during the Truman era, and was stationed in Montana from March of 1941 to June 1942, he would love to have photographs of the persons that served with him, and there were multiple photographs taken, I hope that someone out there who will have these photo's will be willing to share with this wonderful couple. Thanks in advance for any help. Teresa Skaggs ACC: KYGenWeb Volunteer
I'm looking for a marriage record of William Boyd Short, married to Caroline Wariner or Warren. Their only child, Charles McPherson Short. On Charles death certificate it mentions his parents names.. The closest that I can figure out that William probably got married in the late 60's but no later then 1872, because that's when Charles McPherson Short was born. I have not been able to place William Boyd Short on the 1870 census. So I want to think that he was married after 1870 but no later then 1872. Remember Charles was born in 1872. If you happen to have a marriage record book on hand could you please check the index. for William Boyd Short and Caroline Wariner or Warren. Charlotte
Seeking any Information on a ISAAC FARIS/PHARIS etc. living in Carroll Co. in 1840. Would also very much appreciate a lookup of that h/h for 1840. Regards, ken
Hi, Suzanne Shephard stopped by my site, postcards.rootsweb.com and created a Virtual Card just for you! I think I have some outside photos of people posing in front of houses and sitting in carriages from the 1870's and 1880's. 1865 seems highly unusual, but not outright impossible. Do you have the original photograph? Seems like the original would have some sort of identifying information. As a matter of fact, photos made between 1864 and 1866 were required to have a tax stamp affixed to them. Hi - At the risk of being 'off topic', starting a thread or even worse - being ignored ... Today, I received a photograph purported to be my gg-grandfather Robert Carroll King (bn 1817) and his family of Locust in Carroll Co. In the picture, the oldest person (RCKing ?) appears to be 45 or so. Hard to say considering their hard, rural life. The youngest girl (bn 1862) in the photo would have been 2 - 3 yrs which would date the picture in 1865. The photo is not from a photographer's studio, but along a roadside. Question - what might be the earliest that an itinerary photographer might have been hitting the country roads of this area of Kentucky? Thanks, Don
Hi All, Just to let you know, I have posted the first 9 pages of the Carroll Co. Federal Census for 1840. Since Carroll was created from Gallatin and Henry Co. in 1838, thought everyone might be interested! The census is being transcribed and contributed by Don Rubarts. If anyone has other census records they would like to donate to the site, please let me know! Thanks, Suzanne Yelton Shephard
Just an FYI... the 1830 Gallatin Co. Federal Census is now posted to the web site. All you Carroll Co. researchers may want to check it out too since Carroll was part of Gallatin & Henry at this time! Henry Co. 1830 census is also posted to the site! Coming next is the 1840 Carroll Co. census <g> Suzanne Shephard http://www.rootsweb.com/~kygalla2/census.htm http://www.rootsweb.com/~kyhenry/census.html
