Hi LaVerne, I have a difficult quest. Prison records say my husband's grandfather was born about 1885 in Kentucky. In 1908 he was convicted of forgery in Umatilla County, Oregon as Edward Barrett. He was in and out of prison, mostly in until 1914. He married Rachel Brewer in 1915 as Charles Howard, fathered a son, and took off by 1916. He took his father-in-law's horse, sold it as his own, was caught and convicted of forgery in 1916. He was in Oregon State Penitentiary in 1920. He was in and out of prison until 1928 when I can no longer track him for sure. I have a likely candidate in 1930 in California. He used four first names: Charles, Edward, James and Robert. He used four last names: Howard, Barrett, Harris and Williams. At least these are the ones I found. The family story was that he was an alcoholic and went back to Carrollton. So, I'm looking for a boy born in Kentucky around 1885. =) Most censuses have his parents born in Indiana. One intake form said he had siblings. He started smoking and drinking at age 10. He went to church until he left home. He drove wagons. That's all I know about him. I'm looking for any records that I could look in to find him. I don't live near Kentucky so I can't go searching for any local records. But if anyone has any ideas I'd love to hear them! Thanks for asking! Margaret Samland copied the Carroll County marriage index, 1838 - 1938, shared it with me and I was able to convert it into a gedcom and intergrated it into my genealogy program before I ever had any thought of putting the information online. Thousands of entries in my data consist solely of references to a marriage, unconnected to either parents or children. Because of the same person's name appearing in different sources, it is common for the same person to appear more than once. Grooms who remarried in the county will appear as separate individuals in my data. Brides who remarried usually appear again under the surname of their previous husband. If you go back and search from the website where my gedcom is: http://tinyurl.com/yuta2c Entries derived from the marriage index will show the book and page number at the bottom of the page. "5-047" would mean Book 5, page 47. "5-047C" would mean it was indexed as a "colored" marriage. If you send them the book and page reference, the Carroll County Clerk promises to send out within three days a copy of the page from the marriage books, some of which were recopied after being damaged in the 1937 Floods ( I believe the damaged originals can be viewed on microfilm at the Carroll County Public Library; the recopied records give references to the original book and page numbers). There is no guarantee about what information will be there, but typically it may give the wedding date, the ages, residence, where born, occupation, marital status and parents' names. Sometimes there is very little additional information. In some periods extensive family information was recorded. The cost for a photocopy is only $0.25 per page, and marriage book entries are single-page entries. You could send them a check for whichever copy you want, adding the amount of postage. If you send a stamped self-addressed envelope you wouldn't need to add the postage to the check. If you want a copy that's certified, they charge $5.00. Hello: I am hoping to locate more information of W. W. Day and Katherine Goins. I know they had a least 2 daughters: Ida Day - married William Hall abt 1884 in Carroll Co. Ida must have died after having a few children because William married again - maybe twice. His last marriage was to Mattie Hall - Daughter of Alfred Jones and Georgiana. I can't locate a marriage date for them, but it was abt 1900-1910. Kathleen Day - married Paschal Todd Jones. I can only find W.W. Day and his wife Katherine on the 1900 census in Carroll Co. with 2 grandsons, Jesse and Harrison Hall. No ages for birth dates are given for W.W. of Katherine. Help! Hope to hear from someone!
