I'm searching for parents of my Andrew Jackson Taylor. He was born abt 1819 in KY, possibly Henry County. He married Martha Jane Dunn in Carroll Co Ky May 24, 1846. I know that Martha Jane's family was in Henry County and looking at census records I find on the 1820 census: Edward Taylor with 3 sons under age 10 and Benjamin Taylor with 1 son under age 10. Now.. Mr. George Dunn (not sure if it's my Martha's father or not since there is another George in the same census) on the same page as Ben Taylor with only 3 households listed between them. Since some of the census is in alphabetical order (this particular part isn't) I'm not sure if they listed them in household order. Does anyone have any Taylors in either Carroll Co, Trimble Co, or Henry Co KY?? Andrew J. Taylor is pretty much a brick wall here. I didn't find any Taylors on the 1830 census but there are several pages that are hard to read so can't say for sure. Did find a Benjamin Taylor listed on Ancestry.com as being in Carroll Co in 1860 (page 40). Does anyone have any suggestions on how to find out if either of these men are my Andrew's parent?? Thanks so very much Janis in AZ

Kentucky Educational Television's show, KENTUCKY LIFE will tonight contain a segment about the Battle of Blue Licks in 1782. This is the information from KET's website http://www.ket.org/kentuckylife/ : Revolutionary Real Estate For generations it was known as the last battle of the Revolutionary War. And from the American perspective, it was a disaster. In just a few minutes on the afternoon of August 19, 1782, British troops and their Wyandot allies killed almost 70 Kentucky militiamennearly 40% of the American forceand captured several others. Among the dead were such leading Kentuckians of the time as Lexington co-founder John Todd and land commissioner Col. Stephen Trigg (both of whom now have Kentucky counties named for them). The Blue Licks battle followed a British raid on Bryans Station, just north of Lexington, on August 15. The station was well defended, and the British pulled out and began a retreat north. A hastily assembled group of about 180 militiamen set off in pursuit, catching up with the Redcoats at a ford of the Licking River in what is now southern Robertson County. Daniel Boone, in command of one troop, counseled caution because he feared that the British and Wyandots would be waiting in the easily defended ravines up ahead. Others, knowing that reinforcements were on their way, also wanted to wait before attacking. But legend has it that an impatient major charged the river, and the battle was on. As Boone had feared, British riflemen concealed in the ravines easily cut down the onrushing Americansincluding Boones son Israel. By the time the reinforcements did arrive five days later, all they could do was bury the bodies. Because of the British involvement, the Battle of Blue Licks is considered one of the last battles of the Revolutionary War. In fact, it is one of those tragic ironies of history that it actually took place some time after the Revolution itself had endedword simply hadnt reached the frontier yet. But in the larger scheme of things, Blue Licks was also just one in the series of bloody raids, skirmishes, and all-out battles that raged for years between white settlers and the native tribes whose territory they had entered. That war would continue for several more years. Hello, Bill I spent yesterday, Monday, in the Carroll Co courthouse, and library. Took a lunch break with a cousin, and then spent some time at the tourism office to see the display of Ghent memorabilia. Lynda told me you did most of the display ----------A REALLY GREAT JOB. I was looking for some parents for Austin KNOX, b. 1810 - d. 1897 and is buried in the Bethel Cemetery near Wheatley KY. I am educationally guessing the father of Austin KNOX may be James Knox, b. 1785/6 and died in Ghent 1868........he is buried there, and according to your info the stone is broken. James Knox bought and sold a lot of land ---------- BUT I could not find a will, or a deed to any children. In the 1850 census James Knox age 64 is listed with Julia S. age 32. In deeds during the 1840's -- reference is made to James Knox and Julia S. his wife. (Quite an age difference.) The Carroll County Tourism Office is hosting a display of historical photographs and items relating to Ghent history, until the end of the month. The Tourism office is on Highland Avenue (U. S. 42) in Carrollton, across from the Carrollton Post Office and just east from the Courthouse square. For a time Carroll County marriage records were available online, but Ancestry.com purchased them and made them part of their fee-based service. But another version of the 1838 - 1938 marriage index was integrated into my online genealogy database before Ancestry purchased the other index. To search for names, go to my site at: http://worldconnect.genealogy.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?db=wmadavis And if you find the name, it will should show the book and page number at the bottom of the page with a reference to it being from the Carroll County Marriage Index. Many names are in the data which are not from the marriages, and many names appear twice because they are in both the genealogy data and the marriage index -- multiple marriages can cause people to appear more that twice. They tell me that if you send them the book and page reference, the Carroll County Clerk will send out within three days a copy of the page from the marriage books, some of which were recopied after being damaged in the 1937 Floods. There is no guarantee about what information will be there, but typically it may give the wedding date, the ages, residence, where born, occupation, marital status and parents' names. Sometimes there is very little additional information. The cost for a photocopy is only $0.25 per page, and marriage book entries are single-page entries. You could send them a check for whichever copy you want, adding the amount of postage. If you send a stamped self-addressed envelope you wouldn't need to add the postage to the check. If you want a copy that's certified, they charge $5.00. The address is: Carroll County Clerk 440 Main Street Carrollton, KY 41008-1099 Telephone: (502) 732-7005 You can also call them and ask them to read the record to you, but sometimes they don't read all the relevant data from the record without a lot of prompting. Feel free to use the Post-It fuction to add additional notes, queries, comments, and corrections to my on-line gedcom. You can add your name and address and e-mail address as a contact person interested in this entry, if you like. Bill Davis, Can you tell me if there is any information available about the people buried in the Ghent cemetery? If there a printed record anywhere? Specifically, I looking for more info on James KNOX, b. 1785 and d. 1868, who is buried there. Phyllis ________________________________________________________________ GET INTERNET ACCESS FROM JUNO! Does anyone know when the courthouse in Carroll was built? Thanks Alma
HI List Members. I am new to this list but am trying to gather some information on a Madison B. Cook and his wife Ester Turner Cook. Madison died in 1942 in Franklinton, his wife Ester died in 1938. I understand that there are no death certificates available for 1938. I searched the Kentucky Death Index for 1911-1986 and found Madison B. Cook but when searching the records for Ester nothing could be found. Any help or direction would be appreciated. Lyell R. Webb
I would like information on George B. Taylor, married Dorothy Lee Barnes Taylor, in 1941. Dads parents were George Goodloe Taylor , married Nattie Mae Brewer Taylor They all lived in Carrollton Ky, and are burried there in the LOOF cementary Thanks Gennie
I went to the Owen County Courthouse the other day and found all the records had just been moved into the Post Office building across the street (north side of the courthouse). The old records and the modern deed records are now in the same room. No more climbing the stairs to the ceiling to get a heavy book. I've put about 10% of my database on-line at the WorldConnect Project encompassing my Searcy/Stafford, Gallatin/Carroll County Kentucky families. To access it, go to RootsWeb.com, scroll down the screen to the WorldConnect Project Main Page link and click on it. When that link opens, scroll down the page to "jump to a specific database" and type in "jwsearcy" (without the quotation marks). I'm hoping that you will all review the data and send me corrections and additions. If my e-mail address changes in the next couple of days, you can reach me at "hsush.slindber@state.ut.us". I look forward to hearing from you. BK or Frances - if you see this please e-mail me. Have a wonderful holiday season. Thanks, Suz
I'm interested in the Andrew J. Taylor family of Carroll/Trimble Co Ky and the George C. Porter family of Carroll County. Andrew J. Taylor's daughter Mary Alice Taylor married George C. Porter's grandson James Porter in 1889 in Madison IN. Mary died sometime the latter part of 1900 and her sons were sent to live with their aunt Kate Davis (Mary's sister).

I have posted a very poor image of a photocopy of "Miss Fanny Craig" teaching a small group of Black children, Pee Wee Valley, Oldham County, Kentucky. Someone interested in Black Craigs in Carroll County, Kentucky asked for a copy. I know nothing about who she is, but it was in a scrapbook of items mostly involving Carroll County, Kentucky, which is about 45 miles upriver from Pee Wee Valley. Many items in the scrapbook are from 1871-1902.
