Indiana and living in Trimble or Carroll Counties and was just curious as to why they would go all the way from there to Switzerland with Madison so handy. If there was a ferry that could explain it. 1. [KYCARROL] A murdered Yancey in Owen Co., KY
    2. Bill Davis
    3. Does anyone know the circumstances of the murder of Dr. F. V. Yancey in Lockport, Ky, June 24, 1903? Lockport is across the Kentucky River from Owen County, Kentucky. If anyone is interested in Yanceys in Owen County, Kentucky I have uploaded several photographs of some Yancey graves there, where anyone can capture them and do whatever they want to do with them. To get them, go to: http://y42.photos.yahoo.com/bc/wmadavis/lst?.dir=/My+Photo+Album&.view=t and click on "Show All" or "Next" to get to the second group of photos, they are the last ones. I have labeled the ones I know about: William Yancey, son of Philip Yancey and Virginia Holliday and his wife Elizabeth Davis, their son Absolom Adams Yancey and his son, Dr. F. V. Yancey, "murdered" the stone says, in 1903. A newspaper chronology for that year says he was killed in Lockport. I am a descendant of Elizabeth Davis Yancey's parents Benjamin Robinson Davis and Franky Adams. Franky was the daughter of Capt. Absolem Adams of Fayette County, Ky. I have some Yancey genealogy in my online genealogy which you can access from my signature line below. I would like more information on Yanceys descended from this line. 1. [KYCARROL] Can anyone identify this Riley killed in WWII?
    2. Bill Davis
    3. An article from the News Democrat, Carrollton, describes the return of the body of "Riley Junior Sanders," which I think might be an error perhaps for "James Riley, Jr., of Sanders." It states his body was being returned from a temporary cemetery in Africa, where he was killed while serving in "Company H.," probably in 1943. He had been inducted July 2, 1942, trained at Camp Wolters, Texas. It also states he was born Jan 26, 1921, the son of Mr. & Mrs. James Riley, who survived him, and the was also survived by his wife, the former Ruth Ogden. He isn't on the Carroll County WWII memorial. Would like to know a little more about who he was, what unit he served in, and where he was buried. The full article is in my online photos, reachable through the site in my signature line below. 1. [KYCARROL] Re: [INSWITZE] Ferry crossings from Vevay to Carroll Co., Ky.
    2. Bill Davis
    3. There were ferries at Ghent and Warsaw, Kentucky until the mid-1970's, when a highway bridge was constructed over the Markland Dam. There had been a ferry in operation at Ghent since the town was founded, perhaps before. The loss of the ferry cut off the historical ties between Ghent and Vevay. I have seen newspaper articles giving a history of the ferry at Ghent. I have copies somewhere. I believe there was a teacher in Vevay who was gathering information on Ferry history. I don't recall her name. The only ferries in operation that I know of on the Ohio River is one west of Cincinnati and one at Augusta, Kentucky. Perhaps there are others. What is your interest in the local ferries? Bill Davis ******************************************************************** ** wmadavis@kih.net ** P.O. 2. Bill Davis
    3. Seeking information about Marica ALEXANDER, who was 42 years old, perhaps a spinster, when she became the last wife of Rev. John Scott of Owen and Carroll Counties, Kentucky. Scott was married to her in Owen County by Rev. Lewis D. Alexander, and I wonder what connection he might have had to Marcia Alexander. Scott had been the long-time minister of New Liberty Baptist Church in Owen County but in the 1830's had moved into Carroll County. He was a surveyor and a large landowner, and had previously been married to Jane Sneed and Mary Bailey Whitehead Waller. There was some controversy about his second marriage, because she had been deserted and was divorced from a Samuel H. Waller. Scott died a few years after the marriage, and in the 1850 census Marcia is living with some of his children, and with a teen named FLAGG or FAGG, and a couple of children named EVANS. In 1853 she married Burdette A. BLANTON, who had previously been married to Polly Daniel, and after that I don't know what became of her or her husband -- whether they died or moved away. 2. Janis, I don't really know the people you are looking for, but all my relatives are from Carroll Co, & Henry Co. Ky. My dad's family was mostly from Henry Co., Ky. & my Mom's family was mostly from Carroll Co., Ky (Carrollton, Ky). My dad's last name was Floyd & his mother's maiden name was Brierly. My mom's maiden name was Willis, & her mother's maiden name was Wheeler. Do these surnames mean anything to you or has anyone on this list ever heard of them. If anyone has any info on this line I would love to hear from you. Thanks Pat

    1. [KYCARROL] ROBINSON/SCHIRMER/HOAGLAND
    2. Jan Lester
    3. Hello everyone, Am looking for parents &/or siblings of a George ROBINSON, b. 1851 in or near Carroll Co. He married Emma SCHIRMER and had 2 children - Mollie & Lula Mae. Can't find a marriage record for the couple and have searched census info for possible parents. All I can come up with that is even in the realm of possibility is a William ROBINSON who married Rebecca HOAGLAND in Gallatin Co. in 1849. The 1860 Gallatin Co. census shows them with 4 boys including a son, George, 6 years old. (My George would have been 9 according to the DOB on his tombstone, but 3 years isn't that far off.) One other clue passed on to me by a cousin is that George's family may have been from the Hunter's Bottom area and I believe there were Hoagland's there. Can anyone help? I have lots of SCHIRMER info that I can share if anyone is interested. Am posting this to all 3 county lists, so for those of you who are also on all of them - sorry for the repetitions! Thanks so much for any leads. Jan
