Just to let all the researchers know that I have added abt. a hundred new obituaries to the web site and have at least another hundred to add. Also, several new Death Certificates and photos! And the 1860 Federal Census for Carroll Co. was added today! Please come by and see all the new information that has been added! http://www.kykinfolk.com/carroll/index.htm Regards, Suzanne Shephard
There is a meeting about restoring the Old Warsaw Cemetery on 4th Street (across from the library). A walking tour of the cemetery is at 6:30 pm and the meeting is in the Hawkins-Kirby House at 7 pm, Thursday, April 16th. It was in today's Gallatin paper, which wasn't clear about where the meeting was. Bill Davis

I searched the Louisville Courier-Journal for November 1904 and was unable to find any mention of his death. I have a note that he was married to Milly Baker, so this would likely be him, living with his mother, wife, and son, in his Uncle's household in Worthville, Carroll County, Kentucky in the 1900 census: Head Francis Hunt M 63 Kentucky Sister Eliza Hunt F 60 Kentucky Nephew Charlie Hunt M 27 Kentucky Niece Millie Hunt F 21 Indiana Nephew William B Hunt M 2 Kentucky Most of Carrollton's early newspapers were lost in the 1937 flood, so 1904 and 1909 appear to be unavailable. It's a long shot that his death might have been mentioned in a paper out of Owenton or Henry County, Kentucky, or Madison, Indiana, which had papers that served Carroll County readers. FINDAGRAVE has the grave of a "Chase Hunt," died November 8 1904, buried in the Worthville Cemetery. Another version of Worthville's cemetery listings did not mention this burial. I have a note that Karen Hunt Stahl once inquired about this family. Do you know her?
sometimes you can't see the forest for the trees! thanks for all the response. I have to say that I did make a mistake. Mary Louise Lafontaine is my Great Grandmother not my grandmother. Her daughter Ethel was my grandmother. Mary Louise Lafontaine (Jul 15 1885 - Nov 10 1986) married Frank A Williams (Nov 22 1883 - Nov 10 1952) on Nov 19 1904 in Hamilton County Ohio. Their daughter Ethel C Williams (Aug 31, 1905 - Nov 23 1981) married Joseph Ross Wise and their daughter Janet Marie ( Feb 14 1929 - Nov 2 1993) was my mother. Did you notice that Mary Louise and her husband Frank A died on the the month and day? Back to Phillipum Lafontaine - there is a record of a christening on Sept 30 1891 in Carrollton Ky - I can't find a record of birth or death but it seems that a christening is done soon after a birth - I don't seem to have record of birth, I may have gotten it from a relative's family tree I am going to check on that. William Nicholas - all his records list his birth on Aug 15 1891 - death, military, marriage Nicholas and Catherine did have one child die early and that was Clara Margaretha - born Jan 17 1883 and died Aug 1 1884 - her grave marker just says 2 years old She was buried Aug 8 1884 at St . John's Cemetery in Carrollton Ky If anyone knows how I can find online birth records for Carrollton Ky, please let me know. Phillip is the only one I don't have a death date for. But it is odd that William Nicholas Lafontaine shows Aug 15 1891. Could they have been twins? Hello, Are any of you familiar with the families that lived in Carroll County around 1885? My husband's grandfather was born in Kentucky between 1884 - 1886. He was a forger. I have found four names for him. In 1903 he was Edward Barrett. Much of the time he was Charles Howard. In 1919 he was James Harris. In 1928 he was Robert Williams. I have prison records from 1908 to 1928, Washington to California, as well as a letter between sheriff offices confirming identity. We have done a DNA test and so far all 9 matches have some form of the name Lockridge. He abandoned his family before his son (my Father-in-law) was born. The family story was that he was an alcoholic and ran off to Carrollton. He was actually in the Oregon State Penitentiary. From an intake form, I know that he had parents, siblings, went to church before he left home but not after, and started smoking and drinking when he was age 10. Do you know of any Barretts, Howards, Harris', Williams or Lockridges in Carroll County? Are you missing a man born around 1885 out of your family tree? Every now and then I toss out this fishing line and hope someone has seen something. Have a great day, Ronda Howard
I am not looking for LaFontaine ancestors, but thought I would chime in and hope that someone is looking for HUNT ancestors. I joined this message board with the hopes that someone would be able to help me out. I don't live in KY so other help is always appreciated. Here's where I am stuck: I am looking for obituaries on two ancestors: Charles Hunt, who died 16 NOV 1904 in Jefferson, KY, and his mother Eliza Jane Hunt , who died in 1909 in Carroll, KY. I have involved the Louisville Public Library and the Louisville Genealogical Society after exhausting efforts to locate these obituaries, They were unable to help. Does anyone know if the Carroll County Public Library would have any records that would be useful? Sandy, good luck on your LaFontaine research. I am looking for information on Gertrude Dugan. She was born on Aug 9, 1882, in Prestonville, KY, to Robert F. and Amanda Dugan. She had three brothers, L. E., Charles and William. The family moved to Indianapolis before 1910. Ultimately, I'd like to find a picture of Gertrude. We're there class photos as early as 1897-1900 in Carroll County schools? Any ideas on where I could look for a photo would be appreciated. Thanks. Andy Wright

The Kentucky Department of Libraries and Archives has 16 reels of microfilms representing tax assessment books from 1840 to 1972, but I'm not familiar with those records. I don't know how they would help you in your query. http://kdla.kyvl.org/vwebv/holdingsInfo?searchId=274&recCount=10&recPointer=0&bibId=116157 I have never seen these books at courthouse. You could ask about them. I suspect they have been sent off to the archives and put in storage, and only the films available to the public -- if you can get access to a working reader. I don't think the courthouse has a lot of records. They have deeds, mortgages, marriages, and wills. They only have later court order books. There are filing cabinets with miscellaneous records. The surname genealogy files of Kathryn Salyers on microfilm have been deposited at the Carroll County library. I don't know if they have been made available to the public yet. She had a Robinson ancestor herself, and probably has a considerable Robinson file. Many years ago I used to correspond with a Hoagland descendant named Maryte T. Dyess at Galludet University in Washington, D.C., an institution for the deaf. There was genetic deafness in the Carroll County Hoaglands. If there was such deafness in your line, that might be a clue. Haven't been there in about 5 years, but the courthouse had all kinds of books there, some stuff on line, but found what I wanted by going page by page. I was looking for mid 1800 things so they do have lots and were very nice. You might call ahead and see if they still allow it. Also, go over to MAdison. Never been to the courthouse but the library had quite a few files, and you can check on line for what is in Madison I think, Jefferson Co., in. Carroll had a copy machine right there, so you could copy then. Found wills, arriage licenses, and think tax records were off to one side, never got to those. Hi Jan, If you find tax records, would you let us know where you find them? I am looking for my husband's grandfather who was a forger. According to prison records he was born in Kentucky in 1885/6. Most of the time he was Charles or Edward, Howard or Barrett. The family story was that after fathering a child, he took off for Carroll County. I have been to the Carroll County Courthouse. (It was one of the best parts of that trip. I live in Washington State.) I'd like to find out what Barretts and Howards were living in the County at the time. Then see if I can find out if they had a boy in the right time range. It's like grasping at the wind. But I've been looking for a long time. Good luck in your search.
