Found this list, but thought I should share it with Kentucky Campbell people, as my family is in Campbell Co on Washington Trace Road. -----Original Message----- From: Annette Towler [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Monday, September 12, 2005 5:54 PM To: [email protected] Subject: [NOR-CEN-KY] Ellis family Thanks Karen to alerting me to this list. I find it interesting that you have one Dudley Brown Ellis that I do have but can't place him and also the Nelson W (Watts?) Ellis (are there two of them or one with two marriages) is a son of Dudley Brown Ellis b 1760 in Hanover Co VA and his wife Elizabeth Watts. I have the will and Bible information. There is also a Nelson R Ellis (found his marriage license) that I found in the court house records and I am wondering what connections these folks have as they lived not far from each other. My Ellis are buried at Mentor, Grandview Cemetery and then one of the son in law's has his own tomb on the road above California to Washington Trace Road. William Stuart Dunlop. They were Part of Flagg Spring Baptist and also the Christian Church at California, KY Will of my Dudley Brown Ellis b Nov 1860 VA d.???? Will is dated 12 jun 1837 Will Book C page 36-37 I think I have the probate but have not documented all the papers I got from the courthouse in Kentucky last summer. Lists as children Nelson W who married Martha Ann Wood went to Texas John married Gracy Lewis my line had the family farm, still in the family (current owner Ellis Kinney on Washington Trace Road) Ira went to Texas (found him in census records) David Y (Yancy)(according to family went to Washington state) Nancy who married Richard Clift Mahala who married Joseph Clift died in child birth and son John Dunlop Cliff raised by Richard and Nancy Clift Lucinda who married William Stuart Dunlop Joel who went missing at age 5 according to family legend/information. When I retire in two months, then I can really work on this family. Probably will need a trip to Ky just to work on the Ellis's. Have done the DeCourcy's and Balls now Ellis. This is from the Rus Stevens Papers at the Campbell Co. Historical Society: FERGIS GERMAN b. Sept 22, 1802 married CYNTHIA THOMPSON on April 18, 1825. He was the son of WM GERMAN and JANE CATLETT GOSNEY. She was the daughter of WM THOMPSON, Sr. and NANCY DRINKARD. THOMPSON's were the ones who gave the 1 acre of land from their 1000 Acre Patent for the Flag Springs Baptist Church to be built in 1833. Flag Springs Baptist Church was constituted in 1833. Fergis German aquired 800 ares from the WM KENNEDY Estate which joined WM THOMPSON's 1000 acres on the West (Flag Springs). Wesley Chapel is located on the 800 Acre Tract. In 1841, FERGIS GERMAN, a trustee and charter member of Flag Springs Baptist Church led 32 members of Flag Springs congregation to Constitute the 2nd Twelve Mile Baptist Church at Peach Grove on the Washington Rd. (This is now known as the PEACH GROVE BAPTIST CHURCH). GERMAN was Licensed to Preach in 1841. He was ordained to Preach in 1843 by JOHN STEPHENS, WILLIAM MORIN, adn JAMES SPILMAN of the Baptist Association. The 2nd Twelve Mile Church (PEACH GROVE) was constituted on May 8, 1841. Most of the records are under the name of 2nd Twelve Mile Baptist Church. This name was picked because the 12 Mile Baptist Church, founded in 1818 was the Parent Church of the Flag Springs Church in Flag Springs. Peach Grove was the 2nd such church plant. Members of the BEAGLE and THOMPSON families were found in all three churches, Twelve Mile, and Flag Springs, and Second Twelve Mile (Peach Grove). FERGIS GERMAN preached at Peach Grove (2nd Twelve Mile), also 11 years at Falmouth Church of Pendleton Co., KY. In 1855 he moved to Jackson Co., MO for 8 years, then moved back to Campbell County, KY in 1863. He died July 30, 1879 and is buried at the Peach Grove Church Cemetery
Hi Peach Grove/12 mile Church & Cemetery is very pretty setting and interesting. The cemetery is on both sides of the road behind the Church and in front of the Church. Many many grave stones are missing in the older part across the road from the Church. I supposed what is typical is many of the stones have fallen and grass has grown over them. I talked the fellow who moved the cemetery, and he knew there were a lot of people buried there, but did not know who or where the records were. According to him, the church did not have them as there was question of who owned some of that property. They were having trouble proving who owned what land on both sides of the Church. I was there July of 2004. Campbell Co Web Site does not state where their information came from. I drove the back roads to all those cemeteries, just to find Maines and Lewis families. Didn't find them. It is currently in Pendleton County (but very close to county border). I visited that graveyard when I was there and found some BEAGLE's and others. Many families had members buried at both church cemeteries. It was a church plant from the Flag Springs Baptist Church who sent a large group to start Peach Grove-I need to look up the date. I want to say late 1840's. It is about 3-4 miles away from Flag Springs, I would guess. Flag Springs was constituted in 1833 (I have copy of the constitution and the founding members, most of which were BEAGLE and THOMPSON family members or in-laws! It was on a 1 acre donation of WM THOMPSON's 1000 acres original Patent of Flag Springs from 1785.
