    2. Margaret, THANK YOU! I can not begin to thank you enough for this information! That is the piece of the puzzle I needed for so long. James is actually, James Harvey; he is(was) my great-grandfather. I just recently learned that there MIGHT be a brother (Walter) when I found the cemetery plot. Yes, I would love to have copies of the census. Do you want to send them via e-mail or a hard copy to my home? Let me know and I will provide the appropriate information. Also, if there is a cost to sending the hard copy, let me know and I will send you a check. Thank you, Carolyn

    2. I'm seeking information on great-greatgrandparents, Alexander Cook (possibly William Alexander Cook) and his wife, D. L. Jones Cook. Alexander was born in either West Virginia or Virgina, not sure where D. L. was born. They had at least one child, James Harvey, born in West Virginia. Family moved to Campbell Co. prior to 1887. James married in Cincinnati in 1887. Have no further information on (William) Alexander Cook, but D. L. Cook is buried in Evergreen Cemetery in Southgate Ky. James was in the insurance business in Covington, before moving to North Carolina where he died in apprx. 1916. Any information, or suggestions wheree to look, will be greatly appreciated. Carolyn

    1. Re: [KYCAMPBE] Question about the 1850 census of Campbell County
    2. Daryl
    3. Campbell County was divided into 2 areas in the 1850 census. Newport and District 2 which is everything outside of Newport district. I can't say for certain but I suspect the Newport section probably includes areas near Newport but not actually in the city limits. There may be a map somewhere showing what area is covered in each district but I have not seen it. Finding someone twice in the census is not that unusual. I have what appears to be the same person twice in the 1870 census. They just happened to be caught in different areas on different days while traveling. What bugs me is all the relatives that missed getting counted even once. I am missing a lot of people in the 1880 census for some reason which makes the missing 1890 census a double tragedy. 1. Question about the 1850 census of Campbell County
    2. Buffys97
    3. Where was the second district of Campbell County? I think my ancestor, Jacob Berst, was enumerated twice. The first time was on page 51, in the City of Newport, on 21 August as residence 827, household 859. He and his 3-year-old daughter, Catherine, were enumerated here with the Leininger family (misspelled Lonigar) to whom he was related. He is 33. The second time was on page 141. The date was 19 September. At the top of the page it says (I think) "The 2nd District." Here he is enumerated as Jacob Barst without his daughter. He is 33. The other family with whom he is living, is headed by a Henry Barst. This Henry is the correct age to have been Jacob's brother. Where was the Second District of Campbell County? Thanks, Buffy

    3. Hi Everyone, It is a new year and hopefully we have some new people with new clues to those missing ancestors and relatives. If you haven't posted recently how about letting us know what you are looking for. I am looking to compare notes on the following people and their families: Columbus A. H. Morgan (ca 1844-1912) - Where was he prior to 1872? Richard Applegate (ca 1815 - 1891) and wife Rebecca Spriggs (ca 1830 - 1888). - I can't seem to trace most of their kids. Are you a cousin? Samual Peacock - Actually there is at least 3 generations of that name starting with Samual H. Peacock (ca 1810 - 1883). If you have Peacock in or around Campbell County I would like to compare notes. Joshua Robinson (ca 1818 - 1872) - The Robinsons apparently came from Pittsburgh, PA about 1840 and moved back and forth between Cincinnati and Campbell County. Looking for cousins to help figure out this confusing group. If you have Robinson's who spent time in Campbell County please give me a shout. Daryl

    1. Re: [KYCAMPBE] SANFTLEBEN
    2. Hi, Carolyn; No, I'm not related to the Sanftelben family (that I know of), but both my husband and I were born and raised in the greater Cincinnati area, with relatives and ancestors all over the tri-state area, so I've been into a lot of resources in the past 40 years or so. Because it is such a rare name, it's not difficult to find (when it's there) in any of the lists, etc. that I have. Will let you know if anything else shows up. So far, I have found it spelled exactly the way you listed it. Any misspellings, transcription errors, etc. must be so far off they are not even close in the alphabetical lists. By the way, I was thinking perhaps the name may at one point have been something like "SANCT LEBEN", which would translate to "holy life" or some similar wording. Have you located anything on the name in Germany? Best wishes, Ann

    1. Re: [KYCAMPBE] SANFTLEBEN
    2. Ann, Thank you, thank you for your response to my request. I appreciate you sharing this information. You suggested checking with a couple of other lists; do you have their links? I'm not sure how the name is pronounced. Freda was my great-grandmother and she died when I was just an infant. My great-grandparents moved to North Carolina when my grandfather was a little boy, so there was very limited contact with the Campbell co. kin. I sometimes wonder if that is even the "original" spelling of the name...so often "f" was actually "ss", but I have no proof. Every document that I have found indicates the spelling as Sanftleben. I appreciate all the help you can give me, and am willing to share any info that I have with you. Are you related to this family? Thanks - Carolyn

    2. Hi, Carolyn; Saw your message on this list earlier. I have no resources here for research in Campbell County KY, but I have a lot of information on Cincinnati (Hamilton Co.) OH and also some indexes for Kenton County KY (Covington). I would suggest you also send your family query to both other lists to see if anyone can assist you. In the meantime, I have found the following mentions of the surname: Henry Sanftleben married Elisabeth Kollmann 20 Nov 1859 at Freeman Avenue United Church of Christ -- from "Restored Marriages, Hamilton Co. OH" 1850-59 Heinrich Ernst Sanftleben was buried in May of 1863 (died 9 May) age 1 yr. 6 mo. from Salem United Church of Christ. Parents' names were Heinrich and Elisabeth. I'm continuing to search and will send you any additional entries privately. There's a good chance there are more, but the very rare surname is undoubtedly mis-transcribed and misspelled. Will see what I can find. How is the surname pronounced?? Best wishes, Ann Bergelt Florida

    1. Sanftleben family
    2. Hope this list can help me locate information on the Sanftleben family. Heinrich Sanftleben, and his wife Elizabeth Kaufmann Sanftleben immigrated in the United States in mid-1800s. Settling in Covington, they had 3 daughters and 1 son. Daughters were Freda, Dora and Minnie and son was Fredreck Ernest Sanftleben. Freda married my great-grandfather, James Harvey Cook in Cincinnati. but lived in Covington for a number of years. They had 2 children - one of whom died at an early age, the other, a son by the name of Harry Ernest Cook. The Cooks eventually moved to Greensboro, North Carolina. Looking for any information that can help me find the missing "puzzle pieces" to my family. Thank you. Carolyn

My great-uncle who is still living had mentioned this inheritance several years ago (although he could only remember her as Minnie of Maderia!!).
