    3. My friends - I need to discuss two items with our subscriber base. First, some of you who have posted to the JP List(and this may have occurred in some cases with the individual county lists, as well) have received a return message from one of our subscribers which contained the Badtrans Worm. The usual pif attachment in most cases, with the "Take a look to the attachment" line as the giveaway that it was Badtrans. This return message with the worm was not initiated by the other subscriber - it was sent without his/her knowledge by the worm, which sends these messages out to the unopened return addresses of messages contained in the infected computer's e-mail program's inbox. However, after several notifications have been sent to this subscriber concerning his infected machine, the worm continues to be sent out, indicating that no steps have been taken to disinfect his/her system. As I result, I have manually unsubbed the offending address and it will not be allowed to return until such time as I am satisfied that corrective measures have been taken. Again, it needs to be emphasized that no virus or worm is coming to anyone *through the List* itself - these are coming from infected computers and going back to the private addresses of those who have posted to the JP List. The action I have taken will prevent that from occurring from this point forward. Please remember to never open an attachment from anyone that you do not know, and, even if you do know the other party, if you are not expecting an attachment to arrive from them, do not open it until you contact them. And if you see the giveaway phrase, "Take a look to the attachment", you will know instantly that it is Badtrans, and the message and attachment should be deleted immediately. Some of the titles of the Badtrans attachments can be of a lewd nature, as well, which is also a giveaway. Everyone should have an antivirus program running these days, and it should be keep updated. If you have concerns or questions about any of this, please contact me by *private* e-mail - *no* discussion of this matter on the List, please. The second item concerns the fact that the GenConnect boards, which are linked to the KYGenWeb county pages(and virtually all other county pages in the USGenWeb system), and which automatically handle queries, obituaries, and other such items, have been radically changed and updated by Ancestry/RootsWeb. There are many bugs and problems with this new system here at the beginning, and it will take sometime to get them all ironed out. In my view, the rollout was very poorly planned and accomplished, but these services are free to everyone, and that limits our ability to do a great deal of complaining about the methodology of the setup and rollout. If you have visited one of these boards and been confused by what you see, you are in good company. But give it a few days and then revisit - in the long run, things should be simpler and more user friendly, even though it may not seem to be so now. Once again, this is merely FYI, and no discussion of this subject area should appear on the List. I will be back with a file offering for the JP List later today. -B ==============================================================================
