My friends - I am going to bring another segment of the Jackson Purchase Vignettes series to the lists today. I had planned to and this piece over the weekend, but time did not permit. Beyond that, I have been inundated with requests for page images from the latest offering from Graves County Order Book G, and filling all of those will require another 48 hours. It requires a great deal of time to get all of those pages uploaded and on their way, and, as a result, I have not been able to prepare a data posting. Hence, the vignette. Our subject is from Calloway County and is Dr. James Glen Hart, a well known physician. He was the father of Pocahontas "Hontas" Hart, who was shown on the last Calloway County Newspaper Snippets segment, and for whose snippet I had many requests. Tomorrow, we will get back down to business on data from McCracken County. -B +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Jackson Purchase Vignettes - Calloway County - Dr. James Glen Hart "James G[len] Hart, MD, Calloway County, is a son of James M and Dolly (Marsh) Hart. He was born July 5, 1849, in Henry County, Tennessee, and was brought when a year old to this County by his parents. He was reared on a farm and received what education was afforded by the common schools. At twenty years of age, he began the study of medicine under the instruction of Dr. E[arly] B[rent] Curd of this County, and a year later attended the Eclectic Medical Institute, Cincinnati, Ohio, from which institution he graduated in 1873. Returning to Calloway County, he began the practice of his profession, locating in the town of Murray in 1880, and has rapidly attained a leading position, enjoying an extensive, lucrative practice, as well as the esteem of the community. Educational matters receive from him a hearty support, as well as the temperance cause. He is a member of the Masonic fraternity, and with his wife a member of the Christian Church. He married May 15, 1873 to Miss Sarah E[lizabeth] Thompson, daughter of Abraham Thompson of this County, which union has been blessed with four children: Abraham B[rent], Pocahontas, Prince A[lbert] and Fannie." -History of Kentucky, Illustrated - Edition I Todd/Perrin/Kniffen Louisville: F.A.Battey Publishing Co, 1885 [NOTE: Dr. Hart and his wife had several other children beyond those shown in this sketch] ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
