My friends - I trust that everyone passed a pleasant Christmas Day. All went well here, and we now face the coming of the new year shortly. Since the JP List has basically been "in recess" this week, I am dropping by today to post a short JP Vignette for Calloway County. Out subject is Ben Grogan, a banker of the early to mid 20th century. Although I will not be bringing any data posts to the List tomorrow or on the weekend, I do intend to drop by with the next offering of images from Graves County Order Book G at some point. -B +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Jackson Purchase Vignettes # 32 - Calloway County - Ben Grogan "Ben Grogan is one of the best known men in Calloway County by reason of his activity in everything worthwhile. If a thing looks good for the City of Murray and the County of Calloway, Ben Grogan will be found at the head of the procession in putting those things across. Mr. Grogan is a descendant of the early settlers of this section. He was born in Calloway County, near Shiloh, June 24, 1888, and is a son of the late Dr. John T. and Mrs. Edna Grogan. His education was obtained from Murray High and the Southern Normal University of Huntington, Tenn. At any early age he became interested in bank work, accepting employment with the Bank of Murray in 1906,and has been continuously connected with that institution since that time, being at the present time its active Vice-President. On November 4, 1913, he was united in marriage to Miss Ruth Whitnell, daughter of Mr. William Whitnell. He is a member of the Methodist Church and a Democrat. A progressive citizen, a successful banker and a man who believes in doing things - that's Ben Grogan - active Vice-President of the Bank of Murray, and a good one." -History of Calloway County, Kentucky - 1931 Murray, KY: Murray Ledger & Times, 1931 +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
