Posted on: Calloway County, Ky Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ky/Calloway/10675 Surname: Hutchens, Lamb, Overcast, Jackson, Epperson ------------------------- Nina: Your response brings some question into my mind. My gggrandfather was a William Lamb. He married my gggrandmother, Mary Ellen Overcast in August, 1884. He brought with him one son, Luther (which may have been a middle name since most southerners were known by that). In 1985 they had my ggrandmother, Melissa Edna Lamb. She married Clarence Hutchens and they had my grandmother, Nola Mae. The name of Hutchens could have various spellings. I have questions about my gggrandfather...I suspect he was a bit older than my Mary, because he died before my grandmother knew him. My Mary lived until 1940. They only had the one daughter, Melissa Edna. Maybe you can help me confirm if this William may have had multiple marriages. I know that my William was born in Puryear, TN. I don't have a birth year or a death year, but he is buried in Foundry Hill, Henry TN. That seems peculiar to me also, because my Mary is buried in Hazel. I've also heard that he was a wonderful man. Very kind. His daughter picked up on these traits and although she lived a short life (died at 38 from dropsy) her memory still lives in our family through the wonderful stories my grandmother passed down. I would have loved to have known this family! Let me know what you think! Leah

But the name Mary Lamb caught my eye. My gg grandmother was Mary Helen Jenkins Lamb. She married William F. Lamb in 1853 and they lived in the Hazel area. Posted on: Calloway County, Ky Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ky/Calloway/10669 Surname: Overcast, Lamb, Hutchens, Jackson, Burnette ------------------------- I am interested in any information of Grammer schools in Calloway County. I am told that my ancestors, Overcasts, may have started the first grammer school in Calloway County. I have nothing to verify this. I do have a photo of my sister sitting in front of a one house schoolroom. She said that my grandparents took her there and told her it was the school her gggrandparents founded. I see nothing outside of the school to indicate its name. I know it must be near the Murray area or Hazel. My grandmother, Nola Mae Hutchens Burnette, was born and raised in Hazel. Her grandmother, Mary Lamb, lived with them, and it was her ggrandparents with the last name of Overcast that would have started the school. I am looking for information on those people. I have no first names, and no maided name on GGGrandmother Overcast. They may have been Morman. Any help is appreciated. Leah C. (Burnette) Hoins
My friends - Today, we are returning to Calloway County to look at a few more newspaper snippets, this time from the early years of the 20th century(I am still having trouble realizing that we are no longer *in* the 20th century). These snippets can be length or one-liners, and can be on any subject from someone visiting a relative in Calloway County to a death notice, birth or marriage, criminal activity, etc. Obviously, some are probably more valuable from a genealogical perspective than others. But most are interesting little bits of history, even if only anecdotal in their content. Subscribers to the lists which I hsot can request the complete text of a snippet from the listing below by sending a request to me. As always, your continuing assistance in not resending this entire message back to me with the request is appreciated. Because of the length of some of these snippets, I will ask that requests be limited to no more than three (3) items from the list below. As is customary, there will be no data posts pe se tomorrow or on the weekend. I do plan to drop by with a file offering, however, as well as continuing to plug away at the data entry for the upcoming JP Surnames Contact web site. The missus and I will be leaving for the JP on the 24th of this month, as we make one of our regularly scheduled visits to the area. As always, we look forward to the sojourns. I hope all will have a pleasant and genealogically productive weekend. -B ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Calloway County - Early Newspaper Snippets - Part 5 Vertical Bars (||) indicate names were mentioned in same snippet Ruth Gibson Hale (Obit) Judge A.J.G.
