    2. Hello, My name is Charles Lee Williams. My grandparents lived in New Concord. Charles and Maxine Williams My father, Eddie (Edward) Williams, was the younger son. My Uncle, Larry Williams, was the oldest son. Paula Joe (Jo?) Williams was the younger daughter. Rita Williams was the older daughter. My great grandmother lived a few hundred feet from my grandparents. I don't remember her name at the moment but I can find out. The Williams Rd. 1. [KYCALLOWAY] Marshal Williams
    2. Hello, I'm researching an article on the O. K. Corral gunfight in Tombstone, Arizona, the one involving Wyatt Earp and Doc Holliday. One of the important individuals in the story is Sheriff Marshall Williams. Williams disappears after the gunfight, under strange circumstances and rumors had it that he went to Kentucky. Kentucky Death records show a Marshal Williams having died at the age of 76 in 1927, place of death Calloway, Kentucky. Further information is that his death certificat is 02949 and his death is contained in Volume 6. I'm attempting to find out if this was the Marshal Williams, born in New York, age 28 in the 1880 Tombstone census, who worked as a Wells Fargo agent and lawman in Tombstone. The age in the census records places him born in about 1851. Can anybody help. Thanks, Mark Dworkin (905) 881 5598 mdworkin@sympatico.ca

    1. [KYCALLOWAY] New JP Land Grants Text File Now Available - "C" Surnames(Part) - File LG-797
    2. Bill Utterback
    3. My friends - I am dropping by today to let you know that I have another segment in the Jackson Purchase land grants series ready for distribution. This segment contains more surnames beginning with the letter "C". Specifically, those surnames are: Camp(many, especially for William Camp), Campbell and Caldwell(many). As I have mentioned in prior recent posts in this series, I have essentially completed the conversion of most of the 10,000 grants made in the JP region. What I am now doing is finding those small groups that have not been, for one reason or another, offered in the past. Subscribers to the lists which I host can request a copy of this land grants file by sending a message to me(not to the List, please). Please ask for *File LG-797*. The file is available in plain text(ASCII) format or in Adobe Acrobat PDF. I will send the file as a plain text attachment to an e-mail message unless PDF is requested. The file can also be sent in the body of an e-mail message if attachment are not workable, although this often badly skews the columnar alignments. The complete file will be sent. Time constraints do not permit me to extract data on individual surnames from the file. Non-subscriber/PML requests will be filled only if time permits. -B ================================================================================

    1. [KYCALLOWAY] Re: Landon/Pea/Peay/Pee/Smith Families
    2. I am also seeking information on the Pea/Peay/Pee family from Calloway County, KY, specifically Emily Peay who married Thomas Jefferson Duncan in TN (just across the line from Calloway Co.) in 1858. Believe some of this family also moved to Lawrence/Randolph County Arkansas. Any information on the Peays would be greatly appreciated.

    1. [KYCALLOWAY] Miscellaneous Files - Calloway County - Bethel Cemetery
    2. Bill Utterback
    3. My friends - I am dropping by today to let you know that I have converted another of the miscellaneous files from the old 5" floppies into usable format and it is ready for distribution. This one contains the burials, to about 1983, in Bethel Cemetery in Calloway County. I have offered the Graves County Bethel Cemetery in the past, in case the name sounds familiar. This is a medium size cemetery, with perhaps 150 burials in it. The earliest birth year which I noticed was 1800, but there are some other early pioneers buried here, including Rev. Luke Dees, an early minister in Calloway County. Specifically, the surnames found in this Cemetery are: Bailey, Boggess, Burnett, Bynum, Cavender, Clark. Holland, Davis, Dees, Dick, Dodd, Dunn, Eldridge, Hale, Futrell, Ferguson, Phillips, Holloway, Hood, Hornbuckle, Moore, Ingram, Jones, Lee, Lockhart, Martin, Mitts, McDaniel, Mathis, Nanny, Young, Poyner, Rowland, Wymore, Wells, Schroader, Smith, Steely, Thomas, Sutherland, Thorn, Vinson, Watkins and Tolly. Subscribers to the lists which I host can receive a copy of this file by sending a message to me(not to the List, please). Please request the *BethCal File* (in order to differentiate it from the Graves Bethel Cemetery File). The file is available in both Plaint Text format and Adobe Acrobat PDF. The file will be sent as a plain text attachment to an e-mail message unless PDF is requested. The file can also be sent in the body of an e-mail message, if attachments are not workable, although this will often skew the columnar alignments. If this approach is required, please specify that you need the file as a *straight e-mail message*. The complete file will be sent. Time constraints do not allow me to go into the file and extract data for individual surnames. Non-subscriber/PML requests will be filled only if time permits. -B ==============================================================================

    1. [KYCALLOWAY] Administratavia
    2. Bill Utterback
    3. My friends - I need to discuss two items with our subscriber base. First, some of you who have posted to the JP List(and this may have occurred in some cases with the individual county lists, as well) have received a return message from one of our subscribers which contained the Badtrans Worm. The usual pif attachment in most cases, with the "Take a look to the attachment" line as the giveaway that it was Badtrans. This return message with the worm was not initiated by the other subscriber - it was sent without his/her knowledge by the worm, which sends these messages out to the unopened return addresses of messages contained in the infected computer's e-mail program's inbox. However, after several notifications have been sent to this subscriber concerning his infected machine, the worm continues to be sent out, indicating that no steps have been taken to disinfect his/her system. As I result, I have manually unsubbed the offending address and it will not be allowed to return until such time as I am satisfied that corrective measures have been taken. Again, it needs to be emphasized that no virus or worm is coming to anyone *through the List* itself - these are coming from infected computers and going back to the private addresses of those who have posted to the JP List. The action I have taken will prevent that from occurring from this point forward. Please remember to never open an attachment from anyone that you do not know, and, even if you do know the other party, if you are not expecting an attachment to arrive from them, do not open it until you contact them. And if you see the giveaway phrase, "Take a look to the attachment", you will know instantly that it is Badtrans, and the message and attachment should be deleted immediately. Some of the titles of the Badtrans attachments can be of a lewd nature, as well, which is also a giveaway. Everyone should have an antivirus program running these days, and it should be keep updated. If you have concerns or questions about any of this, please contact me by *private* e-mail - *no* discussion of this matter on the List, please. The second item concerns the fact that the GenConnect boards, which are linked to the KYGenWeb county pages(and virtually all other county pages in the USGenWeb system), and which automatically handle queries, obituaries, and other such items, have been radically changed and updated by Ancestry/RootsWeb. There are many bugs and problems with this new system here at the beginning, and it will take sometime to get them all ironed out. In my view, the rollout was very poorly planned and accomplished, but these services are free to everyone, and that limits our ability to do a great deal of complaining about the methodology of the setup and rollout. If you have visited one of these boards and been confused by what you see, you are in good company. But give it a few days and then revisit - in the long run, things should be simpler and more user friendly, even though it may not seem to be so now. Once again, this is merely FYI, and no discussion of this subject area should appear on the List. I will be back with a file offering for the JP List later today. -B ==============================================================================

    1. [KYCALLOWAY] A Call For Support
    2. Bill Utterback
    3. My friends - Greetings from the Dallas/Fort Worth area, where I will be until late Thursday. I had planned on bringing you a data post today for Graves County, but I am going to postpone that item until tomorrow, and, invoking the privilege of the chair, so to speak, I want to tell you that one of our dear friends - and a friend to all of the Kentucky Internet Genealogical Community - is facing a crisis for which she needs the support of all of us. That is why this message is going out to all of the JP area lists which I host. Those of you who attended the Jackson Purchase Homecoming event last year will remember Nancy Trice. She attended in her capacity as State Coordinator of KYGenWeb, which is a part of the USGenWeb, and she surprised me greatly by presenting an award to me on behalf of KYGenWeb. Nancy has been ill recently, and, this week, has been diagnosed with a potentially life threatening problem. She will be seeing specialists this week who will assess her condition more fully and will lay down a treatment program, which may require major surgery, among other things. Nancy's contributions to the Internet genealogical community in KY are legion. I first "met" her six years ago when the KYGenWeb was still a dream of its creator, the late Jeff Murphy. After Jeff left the arena, her great common sense and her ability to bring people together in what became the KYGenWeb proved to be invaluable, necessary resources for that type of undertaking. She was, for a short time, the National Coordinator for the USGenWeb, but left that job to return to her first love - Kentucky. I am proud to know her and to call her a colleague and friend - as she is to all of us. I am asking that all of us - whether you attended the JP Homecoming or not - join together in sending Nancy a veritable "flood" of e-mails and e-cards, expressing our collective and individual hopes and prayers for her full and swift recovery. Nancy has always been there for us, defending the KYGenWeb when it was attacked from without, and doing all that she could to preserve free access to genealogical records on the Internet, even when she came under sometimes vicious personal attack. I was proud to stand with her on more than one occasion. Now, we need to be there for her. I hope you will send Nancy an e-card, or an e-mail message, expressing your wishes for the rapid return of her health. Knowing our subscribers, as I do, I know you will respond. Her e-mail address is: trice@vci.net Thanks for standing by Nancy in these difficult circumstances, and for your understanding in this departure from our normal List postings. Only in an extraordinary circumstance would I "break protocol". This is one. -B ============================================================================ =============

    1. [KYCALLOWAY] New JP Land Grants Text File Now Available - L Surnames - Part - File LG-842-A
    2. Bill Utterback
    3. My friends - I returned home late yesterday from Alabama and am currently trying to catch up on e-mail which I was unable to answer while I was away, since I had no resources with me. I have had an opportunity, however, to get another JP land grants file ready for distribution. This file contains some of the surnames which being with the letter "L" that are "left-overs", for one reason or another. As I have mentioned in previous messages, we have pretty well covered the nearly 10,000 grants in the JP region. The ones which remain are "strays", so to speak, that were not picked up in the earlier files on this subject. Specifically, the surnames covered in this file include: Leech, Leigh, Lewelling/Lawallen/Lewallen, Labareine/ Lebareaine, Lester, Leachman, Leemon, Lemmons, Leonard, Lindsey/Linsey, Liles, Litsey, Linn, Lilly, Light, Linder, Linch, Little, Ligon and Lingo. Subscribers to the lists which I host can obtain a copy of this file by sending a message to me(not to the List, please). Please request *File LG-842-A*. The file is available in either plain text format or Adobe Acrobat PDF. I will send the file as a plain text attachment to an e-mail message unless PDF is specified. The file can also be sent in the body of a regular e-mail message if attachments are not workable, although this will often result in severe skewing of the columnar alignments. If this approach is necessary, please specify that the file is needed as a *straight e-mail message*. The complete file will be sent. Time constraints do not permit me to go into the file and extract data about individual surnames. Non-subscriber requests will be filled only if time permits. 1. [KYCALLOWAY] Jackson Purchase Vignettes # 13 - Calloway County - Edwin Simpson Diuguid
    2. Bill Utterback
    3. My friends - I continue my stay here in Birmingham and my work at the National Institute of Genealogical & Historical Research. Today was an interesting one, in that we had a presentation about genetics and genealogy(DNA testing), and had a lively discussion on the Thomas Jefferson/Sally Hemings case. It was extremely interesting to be able to discuss this with an expert in the DNA field. Today, as we are doing throughout this week while I am here, another JP Vignette is coming your way. We have moved down to Calloway County, and our subject is Edwin Simpson Diuguid. Tomorrow, we will move over to Graves County. -B ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ ++++++++++++++ Jackson Purchase Vignettes # 13 Calloway County - Edwin Simpson Diuguid "Edwin S[impson] Diuguid, Murray, was born in Calloway County August 13, 1854. His father, William H. Diuguid, is a native of Virginia, and came to Calloway County with his parents in 1835; he is a cabinet maker by trade and carried on business a number of years in Murray, but has given his attention more of late years to agricultural pursuits. His wife, Catherine Churchill, is a native of this State. Their union has been blessed with nine children, of whom our subject is the fifth. The latter was reared on a farm, principally, and attended the district schools of the neighborhood, and after a year's course at the Murray Institute, taught school for a term of five months; for our ears following he was employed as salesman by J.D.A.
