    1. [KYCALLOWAY] CHUNN puzzling
    2. Hello to CHUNN/KILLEBREW/BAZZLE/SLAUGHTER/COLLEY researchers! I have been working on a puzzle tonight, and I would like some input from any one with knowledge to help out. Please bear with me as I explain my plight. A look at the 1850 Calloway County census could offer a clue as to siblings or cousins of our Nancy CHUNN. While looking at the house numbers of these people, with exception of the first one, Andrew Slaughter, I'm finding that several CHUNN [or CHUN] women were next door neighbors. I include Andrew Slaughter here, because I found a marriage record in Richmond Co., NC for an Andrew Slaughter and Polly CHUNN. Now, this Andrew doesn't appear to have "Polly" as his wife, but he comes from NC and travels to TN and then KY, and his age seems appropriate, so I'm wondering if he maybe just followed the CHUNN/SLAUGHTER/BAZZELL/KILLEBREW/COLLEY clans because of Polly and then maybe remarried. OK ... now here's my thinking ... We have Nancy CHUNN and Obedience J. CHUNN, and Andrew SLAUGHTER, who may have been husband of a Polly CHUNN, of course, I have also found a posting that lists a Polly CHUNN who is wife of A. C. Coley, b. NC, whose descendants also end up in Calloway Co., KY. At any rate, my thinking is that all of these CHUNN folks are kin to each other ... if not siblings, then cousins. Can any one offer any input here? 115-115 Slaughter, Andrew 56 m farm 3200 NC 12 , Sarah 45 f GA 12 Wallace, S. 17 m farm TN 11 Slaughter, J. H. 14 f TN 11 , Susan C. 13 f 11 , O. 14 m 11 , M. C. 2 f OK ... now for more ... I have found some records that are starting to point to Sylvester CHUNN as being the grandfather or father to more than just Henry B. CHUNN, also of Calloway Co, who married Obiedence SHIRES, who appears to be from the same Maury Co./Marshall Co., TN area that Sylvester resided in at his death. We know that Henry CHUNN was the son of Sylvester, and that Henry B. CHUNN was the son of Henry. Sylvester hailed to Maury Co., TN from Richmond Co., NC with his friend James Norman SMITH. Sylvester and his descendants are the only CHUNN family that I have been able to find in the Richmond Co. area of NC. So, I have been working on putting together a list of his children. Of course, Henry is the one that I have proof of, but I have reason to believe [from marriage records that I have found for Richmond Co., NC] that he may have had a daughter by the name of Betsy CHUNN who married a Lewis PITTMAN, a daughter by the name of Polly CHUNN who married Andrew SLAUGHTER, and a son by the name of Berry CHUNN who married [#1] Martha SLAUGHTER. I have also found a Sylvester Littleberry "Berry" CHUNN in MS who I believe to be the same Berry CHUNN that hailed from NC and was most probably the son of Sylvester. I also have reason to believe that a Bowlin CHUNN [found in MS] was also a son of Sylvester, and I believe him to be the father of Obedience J. CHUNN, her name being respect to his mother, Sylvester's first first, Obedience. I have several other names that I may prove someday to be the children of Sylvester, but I'm still working on them. SO .... I need some feedback here ... Can anyone prove/disprove any of the above? I'd love to hear from you. Hugs to all, Nancy

    1. [KYCALLOWAY] Calloway County - Early 20th Century Newspaper Snippets - Continued
    2. Bill Utterback
    3. My friends - I have found a few more items from the Murray Ledger newspaper in the 1908-1910 time frame that I am posting tonight. These snippets can contain anything from a notice that someone is visiting someone else, to death notices, obituaries, memorials, marriages, murders and much more. All of them may not be "gems" insofar as revealing genealogical information, but they do give us a brief insight into the times. Subscribers to the JP and Calloway lists can obtain the full text of the a snippet by sending a request to me. I will ask, given the length of some of the article texts, that no more than three (3) snippets be requested. As always, your continuing assistance in not resending this entire message back to me with the request is appreciated. Tomorrow, we will look at some more medical terminology. -B +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Calloway County - Early 20th Century Newspaper Snippets - Continued Chunn, Oury Stroud, James (murder) Wilkinson, Gillie Wear, Zula Wear, Emily Morgan, R.A. 1. [KYCALLOWAY] New JP Land Grants Text File Now Ready - "M" Surnames(Part) - File LG-852
    2. Bill Utterback
    3. My friends - It has been awhile since I have had an offering on a land grants file, so I am dropping by today to let you know that I have another segment in our continuing series of JP land grants files ready for distribution. This file is another segment in the process of filling in some blanks that have been omitted from earlier files. This file covers more of the surnames which begin with the letter "M". Specifically, the surnames included in this file are: Muller, Murrell, Murchell, Murry, Mulhenin, Myers, McBride, McCain, McClain, McCarty, McCartney, McCallon and McCallister. As I have said before, we have reached the stage in this series that all that remains are various small pockets of grants which have not heretofore been offered, and I have been working on those recently. Subscribers to the JP List and the county lists which I host can obtain a copy of this file by sending a request directly to me(not to the List, please). Please specify *File LG-852*. The file is available in both Plain Text and Adobe Acrobat PDF format. I will send the file as a plain text attachment to an e-mail message unless PDF is requested. If attachments are not workable, the file can also be transmitted in the body of an e-mail message, although this will often badly skew the columnar alignments. If this form of transmission is required, please specify that you need the file as a *straight e-mail message*. The complete file will be sent. Time constraints do not permit me to go into the file and extract data about individual surnames. Non-subscriber/PML requests will be filled only if time permits. -B ==============================================================================

    1. [KYCALLOWAY] Calloway County - Miscellaneous Files - West Fork Cemetery
    2. Bill Utterback
    3. My friends - I thought it would be worthwhile for us to take a little break from Graves County Order Book G, so I have dipped into that old collection of several hundred 5" floppies that I have and which contain all sorts of items that I have transcribed and gathered on JP counties over the past 35 years. I have converted the burial records for the West Fork Cemetery in Calloway County(which is west of Murray, near the community of Stella), and the converted file is ready for distribution. This particular record was originally taken from a reading which was made in 1968, so there will be cases in which you will see the names of people who were born in the late 1800's who have no death date. They were still living(albeit elderly)at the time this reading was done. This cemetery is of medium size, with perhaps known 200 burials. The earliest birth year which I noticed was 1823. Specifically, the surnames found in this Cemetery are: Adams, Beaman, Bedwell, Bielenberg, Blakeley, Bridges, Brown, Cain, Cathey, Christenberry, Clayton, Cole, Cook, Croley, Crouch, Culver, Cunningham, Davidson, Dixon, Drinkard, Enoch, Ezell, Farless, Finney, Fisher, Fulton, Garland, Gilbert, Graham, Gregory, Gupton, Harding, Hargrove, Hatcher, Hendricks, Hixon, Hopkins, Housden, James, Johnson, Jones, Kirkland, Lawson, Mangrum, McCaslin, Miller, Morgan, Norsworthy, Paschall, Patton, Peeler, Perdue, Radford, Rhea, Robertson, Rogers, Rose, Shelton, Sledd, Sloan, Story(many), Stubblefield, Suiter, Thomas, VanMeter, Washer, Whitlow, Woods, Workman and Worley. Subscribers to the JP and Calloway lists can obtain a copy of this file by sending a request to me(not to the Lists, please). Please request *West Fork File*. The file is available in either Plain Text or Adobe Acrobat PDF format. If no format is specified, I will send it as a plain test attachment to an e-mail message. The file can also be sent in the body of an e-mail message, but this will often result in severe skewing of columnar alignments. If the file must be sent in the body of an e-mail message, please indicate that you require the file as a *straight e-mail message*. The complete file will be sent. Time constraints do not permit me to go into the file and extract data about individual surname or burials. Your assistance in not resending this entire message back to me with the request continues to be appreciated. Non-subscriber/PML requests will be honored only if time permits. -B ==============================================================================

    2. Bob & Joy Bland
    3. I have finally found someone else working on the Calloway Co. Hoods so I am off and running again. We are looking for descendants of this Hood family or anyone researching this line that could help us with missing links. Working to find proof for the following. We think Washington Hood m. Elizabeth Martin and Elizabeth Hood m. Willliam Miller were brother and sister. There is some clues in our research to make us think the Charles Hood, 72, VA in 1860 census is their father Can anyone help us? Thanks, Joy, TN

    1. [KYCALLOWAY] [KYCALLOW] Abigail D. (Outland) Brandon
    2. Hello, Outland researchers, I have a supposition that I wish someone could either agree with me, or shoot the idea down. Of course, if one could agree with me, and provide proof--that would be great. We know that the father of Abigail was Thomas Outland, because as father he gave consent on the marriage license or bond in 1833. One would assume that he was living in Calloway County at the time. Now, which Thomas Outland are we talking about. It isn't T. Outland m. to Abigail Daughtry. He supposedly died about 1821. T. Outland m. to Julia Ward's daughter's name was Rachel Abigail Outland, whereas our Abigail's full name from marriage license or bond was Abigail D. Outland. There was a Thomas Outland listed in the 1830 census for Calloway County, of the age 40 - 50, and a Thomas Outland listed in the 1840 census for Calloway County, of the age 50 - 60 with wife and children. The other day a query came from the OUTLAND-L of rootsweb.com asking if Jeremiah Outland m. Messinah Kitts could be the son of Thomas and Mary Rutland Outland. They gave the 1850 census of Mary Outland, age 58, with three daughters. This Mary was the next door neighbor of Josephus Outland. This Thomas' age would put him in the generation of Josiah, Joab and Enos Outland. I've never seen any work posted anywhere for this Joab Outland--has anyone else. I'm wondering if Thomas and Abigail Daughtry Outland had another son by the name of Thomas or if Joab had another name--such as Thomas. Does anyone have any proof, either for or against this idea? Judy

    2. Hello, Mr. Pavlu Thanks for answering my query. Also thanks for the offer of the e-mail address, but right now, am not researching the Boatright family. I just had curiosity about the settlement (?) of Boatright. As far as I know, there are no Turners or Hoopers in my direct line, which is what I usually research. In case anyone is researching these names, I will give what my Grandmother wrote about her marriage: "This certifies that Milus Stewert Hendrick and Edith Evans were united in Holy Matrimony at the Evans Home day of Oct 1, 1911 in the year of our Lord 1911 at Boatright Ky. by Squire Josh (?) Eleson Witness Cartright Wall Beulah Boatright Clarence Dyar Myrtie Evans" If I find out anything about the river settlements, I will let you know. Judy

    1. [KYCALLOWAY] Re: Boatright and Brandon, KY.
    2. Could anyone please tell me (without having to do a lot of research) where Boatright or Boatwright and Brandon would be located now or the general area? My grandmother Edith (Evans) Hendrick wrote in her Bible that she was born and was married in the Evans' home in Boatright, Kentucky. As the Evans farmed, I wondered if Boatright were a village or simply a postal address. The Evans' homestead was located on a hill overlooking the riverbottom of Tennessee River. The family called it Evans Point, but I have no idea what it is now, and my memory isn't telling me how to get there--it's been so many years. We have a reprint of an 1865 map of Ky. and Tenn. but Boatright is not located on it. It does show where Brandon's Ferry was located--would that be Brandon, Kentucky? Many thanks in advance. Judy
