Hi all, Concerning yesterday's (June 18, 2002) 5.0 earthquake... No serious damage or injuries here, just a lot of laundry that has to be done on everyones britches. The whole thing lasted about 10 seconds, with a horrific loud sound, akin to a loud blast of dynamite followed by 10 seconds of booming and shaking...I have never heard a sound like this before!! Really, really loud sustained thunder would be similar to the sound made by the quake.. But 10 seconds is a long time when you are looking for your crutches and trying to run at the same time. I had knee surgery last week and by the time I got crutches in hand and was ready to run the shaking was over. Our back storm door came unlatched, swung open abt. 2 inches and slammed shut when the shaking was over. I was sitting in a chair watching the door and really couldnt figure out exactly what to do... Weird, what you remember, huh??? Our old clock pendulum stopped swinging at 12:37, the time of the quake. The quake was centered abt 15 mi. n.w. of us, across Evansville...It did break a few store front windows in Evansville..
